Many thanks, Bootsie!

It is indeed nice to put a face with the voice text. ;D

Re: I could use some help with a YellowBoy/ Date Letter Code Found!!!
« Reply #43 on: July 09, 2007, 09:26:20 PM »
Yessirree BOB!

I did find the two letter code on my Henry. I disassembled it this evening to clean it and I took the stock off to get to the mainspring.(I don't like unscrewing something I cannot see).  Low and behold on the left side of the top tang there is a proofmark and a CA in a box, the Uberti Gun Muzzle mark w/U and the S/N once again. The latter two appear to be stamped with ink or some kind of black dye.Or possible laser engraved. The two Letters in the box are stamped.

So the newer guns DO have the two letter Date Code and mine Jives with the info from Ms. Webb that my gun is a 2006.

Take the stock off your Yellow Boys and your Henry's and look at the left sides of the upper tangs and maybe the lower tangs too.

Thanks Major 2 for the date code update!

HCC....I have never removed the butt-stock on my "yellowboy"......is it just the top and lower screw on the tangs? Do you need a smith screwdriver to do this? Nice to know where it is located though. Dusty.

Dusty,
Yes it is just the blued big screws at the ends of the tangs.
The top screw is threaded into the bottom tang, the bottom screw is a wood screw.
I use Chapman screwdrivers for all my gun work as they fit the slots better than just any old screwdriver. Chapman screwdrivers are available from Dixie Gunworks for about $20-$25.00 or so and well worth the investment. The stock has lips at the forward ends to keep them inline with the tangs and frame.

I just today completed a trade for a unseen(except for pictures over the computer) Uberti .38 cal, 1866 yellowboy and the first thing I wanted to check was the loading gate. Appears to have the older original style loading gate with a heavier piece of iron tab for the cartridge stop.  After looking at the posted dates of manufacture, I see I have the XXVI stamped on the barrel and wood finish is more like older style oiled finish. From the posted date chart it looks like this 66 was made 1970??? :o, It's stiffer than all get out and the cocking lever springs look heavier than my other two newer models (Henry & '73) from the year 2001 date of manufacture or BP in a box on the lower tang. I'll plan on getting some pics of it before some planned alterations to smooth the action, but going to shoot first a few times for accuracy. thanks for the date chart. Marked Navy Arms on the barrel and also has the trigger safety.

stepnmud, you will find the lever safety to be a slightly different mechanism, and certainly a different spring than the 73, which is more like the original Winchester.  I have an old Navy Arms 66 with the old Uberti lever safety, and it had a broken spring some years ago.  Since no parts were available, I bought a Henry trigger, trigger spring and screw then machined a seat and screw thread in the receiver for the Henry trigger spring to get the gun working again.

Now, I understand, VTI has parts for the old Uberti lever safety.

Thanks Flint,

I was a bit concerned about replacement parts after learning the date of manufacture.
This 66 is slightly used and has a few dings a scrapes on the receiver and marks on wood, but overall the insides appear almost new but can tell it's been apart before.

I have a old Yellowboy  and cannot find a code anywhere on the gun. I took off the butt stock and there are on letters or numbers anywhere. All I can find is the serial #61159 and three proof marks and cat. #1570 behind the trigger under the lever. Can anyone help?
Thanks
Reno

Have heard that sometimes the date code is under the forend.  More hassle to check there, of course.  I have an Uberti s/n 72xxx that was made in '97, so based on your s/n I would guess mid-90s.  Who imported the gun?  You can often call that company and they can tell you.
