I just picked up a .45 Colt, military version. It's a Taylor's import and I have about 50 rounds through it at the moment, and I hope to get out this weekend and try some different loads. Seems to be a good shooter.

Add me to the list.  I don't have one yet but am currently looking for one in .44wcf.

For now I'll continue to shoot my "Improved Henry".

I wish more groups would use the no membership number option.

Thanks for the plug on SCORRS.  ;)

Joss

SCORRS never did have any membership numbers.  There were a few members that were so used to the SASS numbering system that they counted down the SCORRS roster list until they came to their name and said I am number"X".  We did not want the "my number is lower than your number so that makes me better than you" attitude that is/was(?) in SASS.

Well, Howdy!

I aint better'n nobody, 'cept some dead guys, and I may not really be better, jus' luckier! ::)

I's got me a fine Improved Henry that is shown in my CAS City profile.  Since that time, I've got rid o' that Eyetralian Red shiney finish that was hidin' some real purdy Walnut and got a couple coats o' hand-rubbed tung oil on it.  I slicked it up too, an' now the innards slide t'gether real nice.  Even tho it's 45 Colt, I can keep it goin' purdy smooth for 'bout 50 rounds afore it gets sticky - an that's usin' hard-cast boolits with that nasty waxy lube!  I'm a gonna get me sum o' them BigLube (tm) boolits or a mould and start crankin' out proper bullets meownself.

(Country mode: off) Thanks Marshal, for the great new forum.  And Joss, you too, for suggesting it!

Oh, and my first "Cowboy" rifle was a borrowed 1860 Henry.  I STILL wish I'd bought it then, since it was for sale.

Howdy,

Sign me up too, please!  I've had a Military Henry in 44-40 for some time now; I never polish the brass, just wipe it down and it's starting to get a really nice patina on it.  I keep a replica break down cleaning rod in the butt that I use at the end of each match.  I've been getting the itch to send it off to Happy Trails (The Smith Shop) to have it converted to the Transitional model... ;D

Rapid

Oh, wanted to mention that I kinda like assigning roster numbers; I just think it makes your membership a little more authentic ;)

Got me a Steel Framed, CCH Henry from UBERTI USA when it was on their Blemished Gun list.  They claimed it had a cracked Stock.  I got it for $200 less than Dealer Price and the Stock wasn't cracked, the wood had delaminated and my Gunsmith fixed that and put on the prettiest finish I've ever seen.   Oh Yeah, it's in .44/40.

Well, you all can add me to the list.  I got my Uberti Iron Framed .44-40 Henry in 1990, and shot it for 13 years straight in CAS, using blackpowder loads....a LOT of rounds.  I put my trusty Henry in the safe in 2004, so I could give more play to my Improved Henry Carbine (Uberti), and to my original Spencer Carbine.

Well, I'm pulling my old trusty Henry back out of the safe, and after a little cosmetic work this winter, I will be using it, especially at the NCOWS National Shoot in June.........

Aldo Uberti, about 20 years ago. The gun sat in a warehouse and never sold, until I saw it. I had it antiqued nickeled. Just recently.
Action very smooth, shot it for the first time Sat, 01/21/06. Extremely accurate. I thought about selling it but it matches my colts, almost. see for yourself. I'll Keep it.

Just sent you a PM with his address & phone #. Yes he does pistols & knives too. Ask him to send you some pics of the pair of Ruger stainless Vaqueros he just finished. He also makes custom knives & leather. I have two of his bullet loading strips & a Bowie knife & a boot knife & sheaths that he made.

Ottawa Creek Bill, Actually the Colts are early 3rd generations. You are correct about the Bulls-eye ejectors. Engraving done by John Adams Jr. Who I think is probably better than dad. Both do outstanding work for Colt and other manufactures. Chambered in 44-40, Action work done by Bob James of Phx., Az.  If you all visit my web site http//www.kidsopris.com (http://http//www.kidsopris.com) and go to the link Guns of the West you will see better pictures. Both guns are done exactly alike, and the hammers with the steer skull engraved both sides are to compliment the Ivory grips, (right and Left side guns). Even the front sights are engraved. My CCW carry gun is engraved also the same way except for 4 3/4" barrel. The grips were done a little different as they were done by 'Willy B. Ellis" of Colt fame.

Yes I shoot them, and they will be on display at EOT, since I am working the Colt Booth and Happy Trails Childrens Foundation Booth, this year. And at the Carolina Bell Bust Out! See Y'all at the shoot.

Here is John Adams Web Site:  http://www.vtgunsmiths.com/adams/jaeindex.html (http://www.vtgunsmiths.com/adams/jaeindex.html)

I've had mine since back in 1986 in 44WCF. He has two of 'em in 45 Colt. "Two"!!!
Before he got his, we both used mine in the North Carolina State Shoot. It was so hot,
we actually iced the barrel more than once. And no, (I know what you're thinking)
there was no damage done.

Gentlemen,

Can i join? I have two henrys and a 66 all in 45 lc. My oldest( and prettiest)  is a brass frame  that ken hurst engraved for me 7-8 years ago.It has an artillery scene on  one side and my coat of arms on the other. It doesnt go out to play much anymore, but it sure dresses up the fireplace! The 66 gets used for sass. I recently got an iron framed  henry for sass/war between the states (you cant say civil war in atlanta!) reenacting.  I will try to send some pictures as soon as my wife learns to  use her new camera.

Best,

This past year I decided Capt. Augustus had to have a 1860 Henry.  Since getting it, I had a local gunsmith take 4 " off the barrel.  It really makes a lot of difference in handling.  It's in .45 and can hold 10 .45 LC or 11 Schofields.

Your Gun will feed both 45 LC or 45 Schofields ? Have you modified it at the reciever ?
If not how reliable in  Schofield compaired to LC is the feeding ?

I have not even tried it... But My Opentops are 45 Sch. as is my Spencer.... if the Henry were to work well in Schofield that would simplfy the loading table for me.

Hello all,
I have one I bought a few months back. It is an Uberti. I paid a couple of hundred down and after handling it there in WCI (Walter Craig) in Selma, Al. I had to have it. I then worked my butt off with some overtime and went and picked it up. Oh what a beauty. It is in .45 Colt. When I shot it, it was grouping pretty good but hitting very low, even at just 30 yards or so. So I wound up filing my front site down and now it hits pretty much dead on at 100 yards. I do wish I had've gotten the military version though with the sling attachment things on the stock and side of barrel. I like a sling on any sort of long arm.
Take care,
Pistolero

I'm not a big fan of Italian guns, but they got the Henry right! I have owned mine for about 8 - 9 years and it has functioned flawlessly. .45 Colt (st. wall just like the .44 Henry) with never anything but BP threw it, usually 32 g. of Goex 2f. Dead on with the lawrence sights at 100 yds. I've emptied close to 50 rds. in pie plate like group with no cleaning or wiping the bore, probably could have emptied another 50 if I had them. Those deep grooves the Italians use are just the ticket. I've always wondered who the genius was that thought red heavily laquered stocks looked good though.

James, agree with that red stock finish  :P  I took mine down to bare wood and did a 10 coat linseed-danish oil finish to it.  Looks much better.  Also made one of them magazine spacers which is a nice aid when shooting it ... Original Powder!

Cyrille, the Henry Bigboy is legal for SASS but not NCOWS.  I have no idea about W3G.  The reason that NCOWS doesn't allow the Bigboy is that it is an organization that tries to recapture what our forefathers experienced.  Since this rifle isn't a copy of any historical firearm it isn't allowed.  It has been said of the Henry Bigboy that it is a perfect replica of a gun that didn't exist during our era.

I am sure it is a well made rifle and it is American made.  Too bad they didn't put the same effort into a more historical gun such as a Whitney.

I have a question that involves, not only my new Henry, but if I recall correctly every pistol, revolver, rifle and shotgun I've purchased they are all filthy when I get them home and I have to spend  an hour  or more getting them in clean before I even put a round through them! I realize that they are 'proof' tested before being put on the market but one would think that the manufacturer would have enough pride in their product to clean them before selling their guns to the public. Just my opinion.

I bought a "used" never been shot Navy Arms "made in Ridgefield" Brass Frame Henry (low serial number) and have been shooting it in SASS.  It is .44-40 and I love it.  I shoot in Frontiersman and have tried to keep everything (clothing, equipment, etc) as close to 1860 as I can...  I just wish I could shoot a muzzle loading shotgun instead of the Mule Ear double I have to shoot.  The only thing I dislike about my Henry is the rear sight.  The ladder is so loose it bounces around.  I bought a new rear sight from Navy Arms, just am hesitant to have the dove tail cut for the new sight...

For a while I was cleaning and polishing the Brass but decided that I like the "used" look...I figure most in the 1860's didn't spend a lot of time polishing brass...

I am the proud new owner of an EMF/Uberti 1860 Henry, color case hardened steel frame, standard blued barrel, .45 Colt. I brought it home yesterday. I bought it as a used gun, but it appears new in every respect. The only fault I can find with it, is the ladder sight seems of somewhat lesser quality than the rest of the gun, but maybe that was the way the original was made and I should not be critical.

I wasn't talking about the bass, H--- that's nothing to clean, I was talking about the inside of the barrel!

Manufactors just build them they don't clean them..............Clean all new or slightly new guns when they get home.  Just picked up a Thunderbolt for my "Better half" it needed cleaned also straight out of the box

Been shooting a Henry .44-40 in CAS near 10 years now.   These days it shares the cart with a Spencer.  Use the Spencer for stages with 8 rounds or less, the Henry for all others.

Gamer!! That's what we call someone who uses different guns on various stages to give them an advantage! ;)

Just kidding of course, both rifles are a hoot to shoot but neither would be considered "competitive"  although the Henry should beat a Spencer every time. ;D

I just purchased my Uberti 1860 in 45LC yesterday at one of the local Gander Mountain stores after having drooled over it for the last 3 months- I finally "pulled the trigger", so to speak, and now she's mine. Theres just something about this gun that really reached out to me- I just knew the first time I saw it it would eventually be mine...now it is!!!!! :)

Count me in!  Civilian model, brass frame, 45 colt.  Maybe 200 rounds of smokless, 3000+ of black powder.  Very accurate, can ring 200 meter steels all day and with warthog black powder loads makes a dandy deer rifle.

Oh what the he.. . One more organization I can belong to. Mine's a Navy Arms 24" in 45lc. "Iron" version. Wife bought it fer me as an aniversary gift last year. Custom buckhorn rear sight, ivory bead front sight, realy good action job, minor short stroke. It's been my main match rifle ever since! It don't care what you shoot out of it, it puts it where you point it! Yeah I use a dowell most of the time. That little bit of gamer in me won't go away. Sometimes I wish he'd just go on an' take over. Then maybe I'd practice an' work out like I should. Gamers are just the guys an' gals who do the things to improve themselves that the rest of us are too lazy or too buisy chasin' a buck to do. I love shootin' with 'em an' watchin 'em play.

Incorrect, "Sportsmen/women" that follow the "Spirit of the Game" are the ones that practice there shooting to become the best, uses the Firearms as the came from the manufacturer or uses the Technology the was available during the Victorian Era to smoothe out the Actions, same w/ the Gear, follows the Rules as they are Written, Interacts & Shoots a Stage as it is Written & Dlothes themselves in the Proper fashion.

The "Gamester" practices his shooting as well, But, uses Dubious Means w/ in the Rules in order to win, Doesn't interact or shoot the stage as it is Written by not following the "Spirit of the Game", uses Technology & Gear that wasn't available during the Victorian Era, nor used in Westerns & only clothe themselves in a Minimalest of ways that they can get away w/ or any combination there of.

These are the Differences between a true "Sportsman/women" that believes in the "Spirit of the Game" & "Gamesters" that Have to Win @ Any Cost.

If the 10Ga Remy kicks anything like my 12 GA 1889 Remy CoachGun, then you'l know the meaning of "kills on one end and Maims on the other". I carry bruises for a week after I shoot mine, but it is an original Remy and I love it...

Yeah, if I am unlucky enough to win this shotgun, http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=73167566 (http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=73167566) , I bid on as a back up then I think the 1889 might feel good in comparison. Sometimes free time and gunbroker are not your friend :o I was thinking, hey , I can get a wooden stock set from Brownells for about $35, refinish the metal and I'll have a great gun to test loads with! The other thought was I could "make" 10 ga. empty hulls to reload from store bought rounds or shoot those factory loaded 10 ga black powder rounds in it at a match. I never said I had a lot of common sense! ::)  I need to find someone local who can help me figure out what size chamber the 1889 has so I don't handload shells that are too long for it. I'm sure if I get the NEF it will help "encourage" me to do so. ;)
Don't worry when I get all this figured out I'll post some pics of the 10 gauge(s) knocking me on my 4th point of contact!

You know the most painful recoil I have felt was from a Benelli 3 1/2 inch 12 gauge with 00 Buck loads a buddy had. That narrow butted shotty hurt! I like to play with elephant guns and have fired .375 H&H, .378 Weatherby, .416 Remington, Rigby, and Weatherby, .458 Win. Mag., .460 Weatherby, and .500 Jefferys and I still think that shotgun was the most vicious. I'm not really worried about the 10 gauges, although I won't be shooting any 3 1/2" shells out of the NEF single shot if I can help it...

Howdy, Dakota.  Add me to the Henry totin' list.  Mine is Iron frame in .45 Colt.  I match it up with a TTN 1878 Colt mule ear in 12 ga, Colt 2d Model Dragoon with a .45 Colt R&D drop in cylinder & a Colt Open Top in .44 Special.  Yeah, I know.  One of these days I gotta switch to the Dark Side at which time I will need to look to trade for a .44WCF but for now I'm not bringing more than two different calibers to the loading table!

Golleee Major 2, First the Remy Conversion and now the Iron Frame Henry.

Oh! BTW you can add me to the list as I got my Henry yesterday and went straight to the indoor rnage at the Gunshop  and blasted away for a couple hours.

Shot over 100 shots and had only one Boo-Boo. A factory Winchester Cowboy Load wasn't crimped and it collasped in the magazine jammed the lifter first, and would not feed. I had my wits about me and my Gunsmithing screwdrivers (chapman) and I released the extractor, opened the Magazine and slid out the remaining unfired rounds, dropped the lifter and slid out the offending cartridge. I reloaded and blazed away.

I made a "Henry Stick" l ike DJ's(from his picture and dimensions) and it works perfectly. I like that stick because I have small hands and I can support the rifle and not interrupt the follower with it, hard for me to hold my fingers like a "C" to support the rifle.

I'll try to get some good pictures up soon.

TRADE? did someone say Trade? ...LOL

That woke me up.

Excuse:  I sold a Nice Camper I bought with gun money, made a profit and so I returned the gun money to it rightful place. Now I'm out of Gun money for awhile. HAPPY, but Tapped out of Gun Money. but I HAVE my Henry.

I remember sometime ago I was in the NW and they had just found what they thought was some of D.B.'s money in a forest. I never heard if it really was or not.

Major was a title I held in another organization a long time ago.  I am the Captain of our unit now but brevet down to what ever rank the total number of men we have attending warrants.  If we only have 3 men attend a reenactment they having a Captain looks just a little out of place.  Plus this is an old picture from about 5 years ago.

1. Early mfg. Military Henry in the white serial # range 024XX 44-40 (favorite)  Real flashy! Keep it highly polished.

2. Iron frame (not case hard) 1 of 1000 from navy arms 44-40

3. Brass civilian 44-40 recent mfg.

Such abundance!  Can't hep it, enjoy collecting them! ;D

At least it will go well with the conversion cylinders on my 1860 Army and Remmie 1858. I'm all grins.  ;D ;D ;D

But now I have two in 45 and like you I prefer it... and the same reasons,  conversion cylinder on my 2nd Gen 1860 Army and Remmie Forge frame conversion.

Black Dawg 45's work very well , I also have some Clear Shot Sub reloads

I finally took the plunge and bought a Navy Arms today off of Gunbroker. Price was right at under $800.00, and it is claimed to be new-unfired. Since my 1866 is in 44-40 I opted for the same caliber in the 1860 - just seemed more authentic. I imagine I'll strip down the blueing and work on darkening the brass once it arrives. I prefer the older vintage look on my brass framed guns. In the mean time I'll be looking for some more cartridges! :)

Howdy Brassmagnet!

Don't go out of yer way, the simple fact of shootin' BP is gonna take that shine off yer brass receiver and cartridges perty fast by itself!

About the bluing:  Are ya trying to make the gun look 100 yrs. old?  Or just gittin' the "new" off it?  The reason I ask is that if you're tryin' to look like ya "belong" back then, yer guns would've  been fairly NEW - not all grayed out or brown.  (I like the look of the "antiqued" guns, but since I portray a feller who is alive back then, my shootin' irons wouldn't look like they're 100+ yrs. old!  See whut I mean?)  I want my '66 to look about 10-15 years old - and well cared-for ... which I think it does.  And it is.

 ;)

Anytime you can make that trip to Indiana, be sure and let us know yer comin.'  I ass-ume you'd be comin' to a Great Lakes Freight & Mining Co. shoot (not far from the eastern Indiana border just off of I-70) as opposed to a Scarlet Mask Vigilance Committee shoot near Martinsville, which is about 30 min. south of Indy.  No matter: MANY of us belong to BOTH Indiana NCOWS clubs!  We'd be proud ta have ya come a visitin'!

Thanks for the invite Steel Horse Bailey. One never knows where he will end up at the end of the week :)

I understand your point about not looking vintage if portaraying that era. I have a few smoke poles in glittery new condition also. This 1860 will sit next to my 1866 model in the cabinet, and I want them to match, along with some wall hangers I have in my family room. Kind of an early american/modern depiction of the times. Museum look I guess would be more accurrate. I usually strip the blue, and then brass-black the metal lightly and unevenly to give it a worn look from a scabbard or blanket - even rubbing a saddle-horn. Here's a pic of the '66 next to a '76 Win. (Uberti) to show what I mean. I'll give some more thought to stripping down the blue on the new 1860 - the brass part is definately losing it's shine tho  :)

It has been a very long time since I was in cas city. But I do still have my badge from the first offering.

Anyway. 1860 Henry. Mine started life as an Uberti 1860 Henry in 45LC. Shot it for several years putting up with all the troubles that come with shooting BP in 45LC. Then I checked in to relining the barrel to 44-40. While checking I happen to talk to Maria Uberti and mentioned the modification I was thinking of doing. I had already learn of the cost to reline and was ready to take the plunge when Miss Maria said she had a new Henry barrel complete on the shelf in 44-40 that I could have for $200.00 I almost cut myself in half whipping out my credit card from my back pocket. Within two weeks the deed was done and I haven't looked back.

The rifle as a 45LC was a very nice rifle. Shot smokyless without a second thought. But as a 44-40 it will shoot all day long either smokyless or BP.

The 1860 Henry not unlike the Sharp's 1874 single shot rifle may not be the fastest gun on the range but it certainly gets very high style points.

If you want to shoot a Henry with 15 rounds in the tube come visit me in my little village near Frankfurt/Germany. If you can legally purchase a Henry with a magazin capacity of more than 10 rounds I have a Military Heny in .44 cal. that I might be willing to sell.

I shoots me a Henry cause I like how it looks
It's a gun you can find in the history books

It gave sterling service in the '60s you know
Then headed West in the dust rain and snow

Defended some homesteads and put meat on the table
I'll continue to shoot it as long as I'm able

Didn't say it was fast, didn't say it was handy
But I'll tell ya pard, the Henry's a dandy!  ;D

I posted this back in March of last year, and assumed that I had been added to the membership list.  My request apparently feel through the cracks.  I can certainly understand why an active moderator is needed for this forum.

Howdy.

I'd like to added to your list.  I have 3 uberti Henrys:

When I made up the numbered list, a member on on it in two locations, and it was brought to my attention. Thus-ly I deleted him from the second position.

1988RRC, that is one fine looking Henry.  The wood also has a nice finish, and looks better than the Uberti red.  Allen must have spec'd it differently, or the engraver refinished the wood as well.

I just purchased a '60 Henry carbine from Charlie Bison.

I plan on following in the footsteps of Yellowstone Kelly with this fine carbine.

We had a lively discussion in the NCOWS Chambers regarding the historic provenance of a true Henry "carbine".  We found enough evidence to allow it's use.

It will be one of my NCOWS main match rifles.

I use 1/2" Dowel and a  5/8" or 3/4"  #8 Brass screw (the kind with partial threads and blank shank below the head ) then grind off & file the flat head till it's a # 8 Dia. pin. Pre-drill a pilot hole but don't go through the dowel.
A drop of epoxy on the threads, insures the screw will not loosen, the blank shank pin should be about 1/8"- 5 /16" proud of the dowel.

Hello Gents, if this is the official membership form, I'll put my name on the dotted line. Started shooting a Model 66 Uberti approx  two years ago, caliber 44 Special. Plan on shooting 44 Colt black powder out of her someday, but so far have regulated it to 44 Spec. rds. Bought it and a '72 Open Top Colt (44 Spec/44 Colt) as a pair from Cimarron. They make a good pair. I shoot black in the 44 Colt rds and smokless in the 44 Spec rds. Love em both. Enjoy reading the posts on this section of CAS and all of the CAS City forum, been doing so since Jan of 09, joined Feb of this year. Yers, Crow Choker

Soon to be a .44 Russian Henry  ;D

Are there any down sides to sleeving the chamber vs sleeving the whole barrel?  It looks like the groove on Uberti .44-40 rifles is .429, so the barrel is OK.

"PRESENT!"

I started out shouldering a HEGE-Uberti steel frame Henry in .44/40, later modified for "long-range" with a military sling set-up, tunnel front sight and tangsight.

My mainmatch gun as of this year is a Uberti brass frame Military Model in .45Colt, being fed .45S&W Schofield fodder.

Gents, Please add my name to your prestigious rolls.  I've a couple of Henrys in .44 WCF that I have had for around 14-15 years.  They are military models, one is engraved with the unit name of the 9th Virginia Cavalry, a  re-enacting group I was affiliated with for a few years in the late 90's.  Love the old Brass framed gals.

Looking forward to a fruitful association with like minded pards.

If my memory serves me well, I was there.  I seem to remember it being devilishly hot and recall splendid ice angels on the field tending to the fallen and the fellow portraying Stonewall riding about in his BVDs (after the public had departed of course).  Not swearing by any of this, my war years are mixed up in a haze of memory and it could well have been a different event.  I used to go to many every year and they tend to have blended into a blur in my old noggin.

After I departed the 9th VA I jinned the 7th LA Volunteer Infantry (Pickwick Mess)  for a couple or 3 years and then employment and family  obligations took me off of the front line for good.  That and I got too hefty to be believable as a hungry wolf in Marse Roberts ANV.

Good times.... and I treasure the memories as mixed-up as they may be.

Were you by any chance there?  And would I have been shootin' at ye or beside ye?

I have drooled over this for years and today am a happy camper.  It would be icing on the cake if you would include me on the rolls of Henry rifle shooters.

Howdy Boys, this is my first post on CasCity, and I joined mainly because of my new interest in the Henry rifle. I shot CASS for a few years until about 15 years ago then my health crapped out and couldn't take the frenetic action. Since then been mostly into Older-timey muzzleloading, but picked up an iron frame in .44wcf and am having a great time with it, loading black powder, naturally. Looking fwd. to learning lots about these coolest of lever action guns, just finished the Quick book and have the Ford on order. And btw, mine shoots great!

Excellent, Cap'n!

Love the blued ones and the color-case versions.  There weren't many "back in the day" (when Ollie Winchester & B.Tyler Henry were making them) but I believe (not KNOW) that about 400-450 left the factory without the gunmetal receivers.  (Brass/Bronze)

They are cool.

Is there a Uberti serial number list to determine year of manufacture?

Just noticed this thread but count me in. I've got an old Navy Arms Henry 44wcf that I like to get out and shoot once in a while.

Got to use that ladder sight couple weeks ago. Won the long range pistol caliber at the NCOWS eastern regional. Not real long range but it was around 225 yards.

I've been told the Big Lube bullets werent good for longer ranges but they work at least out to 225 yards. Once I got er dialed in she was spot on with the MAV44 big lubes and a case full of 2F KIK.

The barrel is marked - [Henry's Patent October 16 1860] on the top line. Bottom line - [Manufactured For Canadian Arms Corp.]
Between the rear sight and the receiver and on the lower tang it is stamped - C004

I have no idea who the Canadian Arms Corp. is as they don't exist today.

is there a two letter code on the side of the receiver or barrel?

this would help define a timeline of when it was made.

No, just Italian proof marks and the catalog number - 1558.

Oddly, I have another gun with a "double 0" prefix, (005XXX) - an ERMA PPK knock off! I told the dealer I wanted "007" and he said - "So did I!"

The the two letter code [ ] is bracketed like this,  may be on the left side of the Barrel behind the sight

Later guns have it hidden under tang and the stock needs to be removed to see it...

Does your magazine follower have orange rubber pad ? if so your gun is 2005 or newer> and if 2010 the date code may be hidden

That was a good review. Have you been able to try any long range shots?  Using some 205gr load-x or my reloads, I can consistently ring the
400 yard gong at the local range. Absolutely no problems with it so far. Looks good and shoots good.

I tried it informally @ 300 yards on the silhouettes of 12" Buffalo....hit them with enough thwack to knock them over every time.
Aimed center mass under the hump and that's where it hit  :)

When you hit the target with a 200+ grain bullet, that sure puts a grin on the old face.  Takes about a second for the sound to reach back.
What a blast.

Actually two of them.  One for my pard as well.  18.5" guns.  Just hope the wood is as nice as promised by the "AA".   Anyone know how many the carbine version will actually hold in the mag tube?

Back in 1999 Deb and I visited the Crazy Horse Monument in the Black Hills.  They had a Crazy Horse commemorative Henry rifle on display.  I was immediately blown away with how beautiful the rifle was.  It became my goal to own one.  That was what got us interested in Old West firearms and led eventually to seven years of CAS.

Deb bought a Uberti .44-40 Military Henry for me within a year of seeing the Crazy horse rifle.  It is my favorite gun by far and trust me, that is saying a lot.  It has only been used with real BP and will never shoot smokeless powder as long as I live.  After I am gone it will go to my dear friend, Deb's brother-in-law in Tennessee.  He's a Johnny Reb but can always tell folks that it was a battlefield pickup.

My uncle has an original that was used in the War Between the States.  It has the owners name engraved on the frame.  He even has some period .44 rimfire bulllets.  It was purchsed in 1960 for $600.  It is in really nice shape too.  He told me that the seller had six of them that day and he kicks himself at least once a week for not buying them all.

Hello The Camp,
I'd like to join in with a Cimarron brass framed Military version in .44 Special.  I acquired it from a gentleman who posted it in the classified section on the forum last year and am now having the time to load and get out to shoot.  My preliminary loads have been with black powder (so far 26 grn. Goex 3F) and a .430 215 grain bullet.  I've not done any serious target work yet, just some short range testing for function and fun.  I plan on working on loading various versions to get close to original Henry RF ballistics and have gleaned a lot from fellow Henry shooters on this forum.

The previous owner claims to have had success shooting .44 Colt as well as the .44 Special and I plan on experimenting with this as well.  There are a few marks on the wood and a little wear on the metal here and there, but overall she's in good shape.  I don't know if Cimarron had their Military variants done with non-varnished stock, but mine has a nice oil finish on it and I'm quite happy.

Years ago I had an early Uberti .44-40 from Allen Arms in Santa Fe, but as happens to a lot of us, I foolishly sold it.  I've regretted this for some years and was determined to get one again.  After reading on this forum I noted a number of posts about the .44 Special versions and put this on my "want list".   I figured it would be a hard one to get ahold of but kept looking.  When this one popped up I couldn't let it get away.

Here are some pics of my prize!   I've not posted pics on the forum before so I hope this works.  If not I will figure it from advice here.

I figure I should post in here finally.  I've got an iron framed Henry in 45LC that I plan to use in more cowboy shoots next year.  Still working on acquiring all the other guns necessary for that.  I'm a huge history nerd and got really attracted to 'the first' repeater and first lever gun.  Its actually my first breech loading rifle.  I'm working my way forward in history.  I started with flintlocks.

Back about 12 years ago, I joined SASS and was needing some guns to shoot the matches with.  I came across a gun store that had a Navy Arms Ridgefield NJ .44-40 Henry.  It was brand condition, never fired.  The guy at the store said it came from an estate sale.  I quickly grabbed it.

i love that rifle.  It is fast shooting, extremely accurate, and I love the looks I get when I show up at matches.  I learned real quick to wear a glove on my left hand when I shoot a lot of rounds through it though.

Being  kind of contrary my Henry is a .45 Colt steel frame that has been "converted" to .45 CS (Thanks happy Trails) which pretty much duplicates the original .44 Henry center fire round. It came very smooth and after several hundred rounds is now smoother. It will hold 16 rounds and is very accurate. The steel frame stays clean and untarnished after shooting  real Gun Powder loads, but what else should be shot in an 1860 Henry...Nitro for cat's sake? I think not.

I never got around to posting that I did get my Uberti 1860 Henry.  It is in 45 Colt and shoots quite nicely.

Cabela's "Gun Library"  is a safe source (unlike GB anymore)
and if you have some Cabela's Bucks accrued sometimes a bargain .

A year ago or so got a Uberti Henry in .45 Colt from a friend who has unfortunately aged out of the game.  It is heavy but fun.  Will prolly shoot it at EOT. Lost brass and all .45 colt is easier to get than the .44-40 my miroku 73 shoots.

 :)  EVERYBODY  ;)

For those of you recently acquiring a Henry, or a '66, or a '73 in 45 Colt.  Your al going to experience an amount of Blow By that will foul the Carrier Block and Mortice.  Two fixes for the Blow By.  First is to anneal your 45 Colt cases.  Second is to start with 44-40 cases, carefully run thru 45 Colt dies and fire formed to 45 Colt.  Either will run squeaky clean.

Some tout and claim using heavy loads with heavy bullets, which only partially mitigates Blow By.  The above two solutions actually eliminate all the Blow-By.
