Title: SASS wire Forum fauxpa
Post by: Baltimore Ed on March 16, 2020, 12:47:06 PM
Just had my Coronavirus post deleted 4 times from yesterday to this afternoon. Guess I hit a nerve. In a nutshell I was accused of being too political in my frank comments concerning how Washington was doing such a bang up job [sarcasm] on the pandemic control while praising the work of the state governors and legislators along with big business to attempt to contain this monster. And the last time I posted it I removed Trump?s name from it but did point out that the government response had been made political by making Pence the lead guy as opposed to someone from the CDC. This chinese fortune cookie is going to be a doozy. Im very afraid it?s going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

Geetings My Dear Ed

ah yes, the wire. I no longer bother except to glean the classifieds for percussion crap.

Don't bother them with facts.  The Wire will delete ANYTHING that rubs against their tender "lockstep mindset."

We can thank Marshall Holloway, for freedom of speech here on CAS City!

frankly I am appalled at Washington's
- ignoring the facts
- ignoring the experts
- lack of plan
- stupid announcements without any plan in place
- backstepping when announcements fall on their face

Fortunately, State and Local have learned they cannot dpend on Washington for anything, and so are doing it themselves.

For example, NM has closed schools. Big Problem?  Kids who depend on school meals.
So locals set up to hand out breakfast/lunch bags daily for the kids who depend on school meals.
Not hard. just takes a little thought and a little planning. And local people. With compassion.

The Virus is the worst catastrophe sinc ethe 1918 Global Influenza Pandemic, and has caught leaders short.

I like to think of this as the War of The Worlds:  Virus vs Humanity.

this is a war I think we will win.
but it's costing.

I should have seen the writing on the wall last year when an entire thread [that I didn?t start but had drifted over to Marlins] disappeared when I corrected some erroneous posts concerning the operation and safety features of the marvelous Marlin pump shotgun. Guess I also need to stay away from the ?wire? too. Thank you Marshall Holloway sir. Without freedom of speech we?re nothing but russian chinese nazis. Everyone stay safe by staying home, as much as possible. We?re old pharts and can?t afford to catch this junk or bring it home to our spouses. You don?t want your trophy wife selling off all your stuff for pennies on the dollar because you checked out.

Virus:
avoid crowds
wash hands often
use alcohol based cleaners
wear a mask if you really really need/want to.
guess what the common surgical masks are N95 and work just fine.
you don;t need a positive pressure helmet or even a completely  tight seal around your face,
you are trying to guard against a temporary cloud of microscopic droplets coming STRAIGHT AT YOURT FACE,
the cloud disperses quickly, and the little devils are NOT trying to cl;aw their way into your body like ticks or fleas.

Above All,  Be Nice and Don't Panic.

----
Oh My yes, the deadly Marlin shotgun....

I have one. Grandpas shotgun. Some dweeb scratched crap into it and "embelished' by carving what is supposed to be a duck and a skull and crossbones
into the side of the buttstock. Turns out it is one step down from the "premium" grade. On the good side, whislt cleaning the gunk off I  found the prior
owners lightly scratched his name on the side, and I tracked them down to a Chicago suburb from the pre- WW2 census!

Fortunately, I found a complete spare barrel/mag tube, complete buttstock, and spare firing pin on flea bay and I am in the process of restoring it.
It always shot light loads fine for us, nad frankly I think the 1897's that can slam fire are no more safer....  but opinions may vary - and Maurader has a great website all
about it.  :-)

I think not.  Compare the ACTUAL NUMBER of people that have died from CV to the numbers that have died (same period) from the regular old flu, car accidents, heart attacks (from being overweight), lung cancer (2 pack a day smokers), etc.  Your chance of being killed by CV is about the same as being hit by a bus. The media has stirred up a feeding frenzy of panic.

The American public has a long history of being panicked by the media.  Remember the McMartin preschool and other kids being abused by Satanic people, those thousands of missing children (including 20 year old's that ran away from abusive parents), the hole in the Ozone, SARS, Zika, Pintos that would explode if you looked at them, etc.

We?ve got a ways to go with this but I think the 1918 flu will be the worst but there?s always the next one. Look up asian wet markets on google and see if that doesn?t scare the crap out of you. That?s where this came from, sars too.

In terms of actual deaths, the 2019-2020 common Influenza still has the top numbers vs corona, and corona has a long way to go.

In terms of panic and worldwide effects, it is my opinion ( which belongs to me, and is mine [ anybody get the reference?] ) I still opine that corona is causing more "upheaval" , and is about on par with the 1918 Influenza for "upheaval".

I say this becasue this is the first time in many years that there has been
- a global pandemic
- a disease with such sudden onset and unexpected sudden mortality
- global border closings, shutdowns, lockdowns, and assorted stoopid hooman tricks.

and I continue babbling on this topic because we need something to talk about ....

Since we have faire weather, If I am lucky I may be able to sneak out to the nat'l forest public space and finally get to burn some powder.

Well Hey Biltmore, and the Peresser, andy anyone else.  The SASS Wire has gone inna toilette.  If you take a look and study a bit ((yule BARF) You will see there are about a Dozen or Dozen and Half folks that literally run the place.  If you happen to disagree, they will collectively DOG PILE on you for having an opinion.  Any Opinion.

And should you have a discouraging word for TRUMP, those self same folks will try to lynch you.  DO NOT attempt to confuse them with FACTS.  They are completely and utterly 'round the bend.

Just had my Annual Spring Fling and Mouse Safari cut short.  Disney CLOSED!!  Rather than be trapped by PANIC we elected to RUN FOR HOME!!

Stay well. Live Long and Prosper.  If yer Nose Runs and yer Feet Smell, your UPSIDE DOWN

Wait a minute here guys, the SASS Wire and Saloon has long had a policy of no political talk. If you insist on not adhering to their rule then don't go on it. I'm on it everyday with no problems at all. I don't get political as per their rules! Pretty easy!

I don't think we can get political on here either. ::)

I was talkin virus talk not politics. In today?s America they are very intertwined unfortunately and each has a bearing on the other. But I won?t go over there and stir the pot or step on any toes anymore. But would politics and gun rights be ok over there? They?re intertwined too and will become even more so.

Politics about guns will go on for some time until it turns into an argument about who's pro-gun and who's anti-gun etc. etc.

I might be na?ve, but I feel like this outpost in the Information Wasteland (and  a few others) remains one of those good old fashioned places in America. We support one another based on shared obsessions and a love for the history of this beautiful country. It is still the place, I insist, where you may curse me for a fool for how I vote on a Tuesday, but we'll split firewood together on Saturday, and share a pew on Sunday morning. Conscience is a tricky thing and I fear it has become fashionable to berate others for having one anymore. 'Nuff said. As you were.

You can't separate politics from this pandemic - anywhere!

Not when Cuomo allowed a large Chinese (people from Wuhan) New Years celebration to happen and Italy has 10,000 Chinese foreign workers (cheap labour) producing "Made In Italy" goods".

This is what happens with a "global economy".

California and other jurisdictions are talking about the release of non-violent criminals to protect them from the virus while the public has to self-quarantine. Trump wants to lift the quarantine restrictions and get the economy back on track by Easter.

Hospitals are desperately short of masks, ventilators and other essential tools to combat the virus.

The famous Roxham Road illegal border crossing in Quebec has just recently been closed after the government was embarrassed to do so by the Rebel News media. Prior to that, any illegal immigrant the US did not want simply had to walk across the border and be greeted by the RCMP who carried their baggage! Welcome to Canada.

Canada is repatriating citizens without adequate screening, some even displaying symptoms.

In other words - our governments (national/state/provincial) are proving that they couldn't find their asses with both hands twice on the same day.

All medical professionals agree that the situation is going to get a LOT worse before it gets better.

I believe Pres. Trump said it would be nice if it could happen by Easter. That's what happens when the press needles and needles day after day for a date a date a date .  .  .   it gets so old to listen to all the "trap crap" our media gives to the "wrong party Pres. "   I'm sure Hitlery would have cured the World by the end of February and we'd all be millionaires by now!   Anybody that would vote for anyone even hinting at Socialism is a total idiot. Sorry but that's truth. When most of us were kids, Socialism was a "bad word" , news flash!!!  IT STILL IS !!!.

NO President has done more for this country in such a short period of time than Trump.  The last Pres. we had is why I got out of the real estate business and our country is still dealing with the aftermath,  .  .  .  3+ yrs after.

Even now , Pelosi "needs time to read the relief bill" though  at the time Obamacare was voted on why, " we need to pass it so we can see what is, uh, in it"!!   Really!!!!

I even heard a report today that L.A. is closing gun shops because they're not essential!!!  Huh?!!!

Ok, I dun it now Politics run rampant !!!  Well sorry, elections have consequences and this man hasn't been delt with anywhere close to the same as the last one .   .  .  since before he was elected .  .  .  key here is ELECTED!!!

Thanks so much  Major2 and Dirty Dick !!! I am as conservative as conservative can be!! I don't care if my neighbor owns a tank, that's even more reason to be polite?!! Absolutely!!  I truly believe an armed society is a polite society!
Politically today, there is no politeness.  And then we that abhor those that want to change what our country stands for, and allow them to take the reins,we deserve what we we get!!! All the capitulating our so called "conservitive party" does  is sickening!!  Dangit, I can't help it!  If I get kicked off of here because of this, that's ok.  I've been beat up on other forums for less, but, I'm a big boy!! I know all you guys, got your numbers, appreciate your business immensely, you all have helped me get to where I am today, thank you!!

That's just the way I am and I ain't gonna change!!
If George Washington needed an army today, because of my kids and grandkids,  I'd sign up as fast as I could!!! And I'd be part of a 1/3 of the population !!! We should thank God every day for that 1/3 that had balls enough to give birth to this country!!

Well now, this thread has drifted a bit.  I generally do not get into political arguments, er, discussions.  I have been on the Wire and this forum since the beginning.  I get a lot out of both.  I ignore more posts, and more posters, on the Wire, but still find plenty of good for me.

As for our fearless leader, I guess I'll weigh in.  Trump is a buffoon.  But he is our buffoon.  I voted for him and will do so again, but only due to lack of a better choice.  He has divided our country more than it ever has been (though it had a really good start before the election), but has also accomplished a great deal, and that is important.  If this man had a different personality, which I think is the main problem, there is no telling how much better off we might all be, but he is what he is and isn't going to change.  So we do the best we can, and pray for the future of our leaders and our country.

True. Canada is a Confederation of self-governing Provinces. We have been labouring under the 'first-past-the-post' system since 1867. Any party that gets 40% of the popular vote gets to form a majority government.

There are clear cut firewalls between federal and provincial powers, which is why Trudeau has not been able to invoke the Emergency Measures Act. All the provinces must enact their own versions before that can be implemented.

An amazing Human Being you say.  Yes, Trump is a Human Being.  One whom lies (from the beginning of this current problem, distorts the facts to support his income.
What lies? It's too easy to say crap like that. Hell, Obama lied day after day, week after week " If you like your Doctor, you can keep your Doctor, if you like your plan, you can keep your plan" B.S. !!!  It'll be cheaper .  .  .  B. Freekin S.!!

And, as near as I can tell, is supported by a group of people who have made no concessions since Trump took office.

Concessions for what?!  I'm interested .  .  .

The other side, also is not putting together a Socialist State.
Um .  .  .  let's see, national health care , no semi auto firearms, gun registration,  $15.00 min wage ,  abortion after birth,  put coal miners out of work, climate change prevention (wtf??),  No to fossil fuels,  airlines to be "carbon neutral by 2025 (again WTF?!!), no boarders,  .  .  .   Sounds like a great place to grow up in!!

  Ignorance is also bliss.
Apparently so!!

"We will not come to an even ground here.  Or even .. there.  EVER."
Of course, like I said, if " we" don't give in, it's not "fair".  (That's that capitulation thingy) and definitely not if one side won't!!

"We have a criminal in the White House. "
Where's your proof? What's the crime/crimes . I'm sure if Comey could have found anything, he would have!! Since they couldn't, they broke laws (fisa warrants to be specific and multiple times !) , about a bought and paid for "dossier"  by the Democratic party (with Hitlery's money!)   ruined lives of those that had nothing to do with elections.  Oh yeah, if Trump had destroyed evidence that had been subpoenaed (bleach bitted and the like) you think Comey would look the other way? (Like they did for Hillery?) Are you kidding me?!!! No rose colored glasses here, Blinders!!!
Hmmmm  maybe some specifics could jog my memory .  .  .

We?ve had republican presidents in the past without the deep divisions that plague America today. How much is due to Trump?s ineptitude or his intentional lack of normal respect that a President of the United States would properly show a fellow American or foreign leader I don?t know. But he is the only choice we have. Its a bad election when an American voter?s presidential choice is for whom he dislikes the least. I voted against Hillary last time, guess I?ll vote against Biden this time. It?s hard to believe that as great as this country has been and the great things it has done and sacrifices it?s made there are no great men who can lead it.

I know, President Trump just has the lowest national unemployment rate since we've been keeping records. More minorities working and off of food stamps and  welfare since 1964.  Booming stock market (which is on hold now during the pandemic, of course he'll be blamed for that too -why not?)  which has hit highs never before seen and probably will hit 30,000 by years end. Highest job growth in the last 40 yrs. Companies leaving China and coming back to the states. Made us oil independent (something that should have happened long ago, Trump got it done).
Donates his salary, wasn't a politician, completed almost all his campaign promises (instead of working one one or two like a politician). He's a do'er. his intentional lack of normal respect that a President of the United States would properly show a fellow American or foreign leader I don?t know.
You mean like when Clinton wouldn't salute getting on or off Air force One or Marine One?  The President that said he "loathed" the military? That respectful Democrat President?

Maybe you're mistaken and thinking about how Obama bowed to foreign leaders (historically, U.S. presidents Don't bow (as a subservient) to other leaders).  When he was on his apology tour? ( apologizing for U.S. dominance).

Instead, I notice Trump saluting each time on and off AF One  and Marine One, not kowtowing to other leaders being basically .  .  .  Presidential !!!

Could you be even the slightest bit specific? That is such a "general" statement, it could be said about every election ever held.

I NEVER quoted that!!! Look back at what I've said! Are you okay?? Maybe a shot or two of bourbon will help! ;D

Gets things done.  Wouldn't get away with telling constituents their full of S*it like sleepy Joe can.    Baltimore Ed, I can see your problem, you just want somebody to do nothing. Thanks Rye.

I understand that this "thread drift" is my fault and I don't view it as a P*ssing contest in the least. I just get tired of the "sideways" comments you here all the time about a President  that I like! It's almost a given that when conservative leaders are "talked about" by leftys, we are supposed to let it slide .  .  . don't say anything back .  .  . don't rock the boat!  Well I have just as much right as anybody to be proud of my President and I'll say so when I feel the need. I'm not trying to convince anybody one way or another. I gave specific points (of which there are numerous more) rather than generalities. Not trying to make friends or enemy's, im just standing up for someone who gets beat up in the press day in and day out yet still has the ability to grow the economy, protect our international interests, get folks to work, protect our boarders, be an on the front leader of our present pandemic .  .  .    nobody can truthfully say he's been treated fair,  or name the so called crimes they say he committed .  .  .  they tried for 3+ years and couldn't .
Yet on the other hand, I put up with the previous President that I did not like in the least,  tried to give us Socialized medicine, told us America has seen its best days, doubled our national debt .  .  .   I had to bite my tongue and not say anything or I'd be called a racist.
Honestly, if Obama was doing what Trump is today,  he'd be hailed as the "Greatest President" in U.S. history!!!

When did almost half our people decide that Socialism was a good thing? We could've had that 100 yrs ago. I'm from a Military family and we fought 2 World Wars to keep that from happening .  .  .  but suddenly we can't seem to get there fast enough!!  Anyway, I'm extremely proud of my President and the job he has done his first 4 years. He may not talk ?presidential " but he respects our country and our military and wants a people proud of their country, a country to be the envy of the world!!   He understands that we have the most unique country in the world  .  .  . where anyone can become an American! Unless you were born in France, you can't be  French, or English, or German, or Mexican  .  .  .  but in our country, anyone can become an American!
  That's where I stand on the matter .  .  .

Mike

I guess this is what happens when you inject politics in  threads and why some places don't allow it.  Like I said above, I don't mean to necessarily make any enemies, I just think conservatives should be able to be as bold as anyone else.
If folks agree with me, great!! If I stepped on any toes, well, you'll be a better swimmer!!

I also agree that we should be able to speak our mind here on cascity without things getting mean or ugly. I became an independent after Clinton was given a free pass for his improper behavior and lies. I was not surprised when another free pass was given by the republicans. I would love to have a second republican choice but it is what it is. As a gun lover, collector and shooter I have only one choice but that doesn?t mean that I have to approve of this guy?s inappropriate behavior.

Baltimore Ed,
I understand and somewhat agree  with you, but the question becomes, why do you (not specifically you) need a "politician" to run the country rather than a person that understands what the problems are and how to fix them .  .  .  regardless of his (or her) gruff speech. Would you throw any your freedoms for someone that speaks eloquent and politically?  Personally, I find a little "in your face" and "matter of fact" speak a little refreshing!!

I'd furthermore like all political offices be 2 and 4 yrs , 2 terms max and your out!!! Never ever to have a "career politician" ever again!! Too many of them (both sides) owe too many favors!! Clean up and drain the swamp, we have a good start!!

45, we are actually on the same page. We desperately need term limits, 2x4yr terms or 2x6 yr terms and then go home and be barred by law to have anything to do with the federal government again. And I also voted for Ross Perot with my thinking being to stop running the govt as a damn charity and more like a business. The National debt was ONLY 5 trillion then. Personally I think the country is broke with a 30 trillion dollar debt plus this 2 trillion Coronavirus bailout. Where is this money coming from? China or are we just printing money? That?s called inflation, do you want to pay 100.00 for a loaf of bread. You can?t keep borrowing without end, it doesn?t work that way. And President Reagan was in your face and spoke his mind but he wasn?t insulting or ignorant.

Someone said Trump is rough around the edges. That's true but he need those rough edges to cut through the bullcrap in D.C. I voted for him because he's NOT a slick talking politician. He was praised and looked up to when he was just building hotels and he was given all kinds of awards from the liberals and black communities in NYC UNTIL he became a REPUBLICAN! He punches back and I love that about him. He's more like we are than anyone in that cesspool of politicians! ::)

I agree, can't Barrow forever!  The one caveat is, with an economy just on hold to allow a pandemic to run its course, we need to have the jobs available that folks were asked to leave to come back to. That is the only way you can "pick up where you left off". After that, with a wide open free market there's know way we can't eventually get a handle on our debt and at the same time, do away with programs the we pay for that the Fed. has no business running in the first place (let's don't get all cranked up again!! Lol!!)  Pandemics come around what every 100 yrs or so?  The timing sucks  of course but thank God we have a waiting market and work force that will make this ultimately a " bump in the road"!! Hopefully, lessons will be learned here (at this time) and future Presidents can /will navigate through with Americans in mind rather than power/party put first (am I dreamin?!!).  I also am glad you agree, term limits would help take power/party favors out somewhat.

Why yes  BE, I'm way ahead of ya !  Lol.

One thing I've learned in my life is that things don't go just exactly like you might want them to. And , when they don't, is the  outcome you get worth what is lost getting there?  I'd say know!! We all learn from each other, share with each other, ultimately need each other .  .  .   every time you "cut anybody off"  from your life experience, you'd probably be amazed at what you slammed the door on!

I'd much rather be friends than enemy's with everyone!! Makes for a better world in my opinion .  .  .  at this point I've known folks on this forum for quite a few years and though there has been a bump or two along the way, I'd help any one of them as much as I can!! To me, there's nothing I'd loose that would be worth keeping, why wouldn't I? It is usually returned in multiples!!!
Thanks to those that allowed this to run its course!! I think it proves that civil folks can discuss, fuss, and in the end, shake hands and realize there is value in all concerned.  I'm thankful for several things that happened here and maybe some others are as well.

Ok CM!!! Spillit !!!! What kinda shot gun?!!!!

Virus:
avoid crowds
wash hands often
use alcohol based cleaners
wear a mask if you really really need/want to.
guess what the common surgical masks are N95 and work just fine.
you don;t need a positive pressure helmet or even a completely  tight seal around your face,
you are trying to guard against a temporary cloud of microscopic droplets coming STRAIGHT AT YOURT FACE,
the cloud disperses quickly, and the little devils are NOT trying to cl;aw their way into your body like ticks or fleas.

Above All,  Be Nice and Don't Panic.

It always shot light loads fine for us, nad frankly I think the 1897's that can slam fire are no more safer....  but opinions may vary - and Maurader has a great website all
about it.  :-)

prof marvel

- Wash hands with soap and water, all over, for 20 seconds.  Dry with clean towel or cloth.
- If soap and water are not available, you can use hand sanitizer that is at least 60% (120 proof) alcohol.  Again, rub all over hands - front, back, between fingers.  Continue until dry.  Do not use towel to dry hands.
- If hands are dirty or oily, hand sanitizer is not effective.
- If you follow proper hand washing protocols, latex gloves are not necessary.  If you don't, they won't help.

- In the lab n95 masks work better than surgical masks, in practice (even in hospitals) they don't.  A properly fitted n95 mask is uncomfortable and restricts breathing. (Note: n95 masks are not effective for oils.  Coronavirus have a lipid (oil) covering.  This is why soap and alcohol are effective).

- The use of masks AND hand cleanliness is necessary to reduce infection by the general public.  It does not eliminate the risk of infection, however.

- The strict use of masks and respirators by the general public can reduce infection, but the difference between surgical masks and n95 respirators is not not significant.  Strict compliance by the general public is a problem, as such, the use of masks is not seen as better than not using them.

For most people the cottage industry, reusable, washable, cloth masks will work just fine and will save the medical grade surgical masks and respirators for the healthcare industry and the industrial respirators for people in essential jobs who need them to work safely, like agriculture and industries.  Remember, the main purpose of masks is to keep from spreading the disease, not protecting you from catching it (The same is true in hospitals).

Even cooler than cloth masks are bandannas.  They will cover the nose, mouth and side of face.

Finally, as Professor Marvel says: Be nice and don't panic.

California is closing gun shops as non-essential?  Gee, they finally got an excuse!  So far Colorado hasn't done that, as far as I know this afternoon.  But, I don't need no stinkin' gun shops! What do I need with a(nother) gun?  I only got two hands!  ;)
