It’s just the allure of the ‘86…Wife bought me one 15 years ago —- it was so pretty it was a safe queen who got wiped down once a month…..until last year, then it was bring it on. I’ve got a few 45-70”s, mostly Marlin JM’s but when I finally decided to shoot it game on. Always been a bullet caster now I’ve got piles of 45”s.

It’s simply the beauty of the rifle and especially just the sound the damn thing makes when you rack it. When I did take it out to shoot it and it shot 3-4” groups @100 yards with factory iron sights I was all in. Now one wears a Climbin’ Lyman and one (got 45-70 and 45-90) is getting a Skinner peep.

Now all that being said, I would NOT want to hump either one through the woods at this age for very long but it’s a damn fine rifle to sit with. Hopefully this year will be the first deer I’ve gotten since 1973 without a scope.

You can call, ask for Lou and ask him. The word from the horse's mouth is that they did not buy USFA's machinery. Not that it really  matters.

I don't care how many guns you've worked on. If you conclude that the Uberti parts USFA's and the domestic parts USFA's are all the same, your "opinion" is highly suspect. Yes, I will flat-out call you out. Anyone who has owned and disassembled both should be able to plain see and feel the difference.

USFA's were not overpriced. In fact, they were underpriced. They were too good for their price point. People scoffed at paying Colt money for something that was not a Colt but they were easily head and shoulders above anything Colt ever produced. Look at the Freedom Arms guns for example. All stainless steel, no period correct finish work, $3000 to start. The domestic USFA's are machined and finished 'that' good. If you disagree, you either need your eyes checked, you're not being honest or you have an agenda. USFA is the reason why Colt upped their game. If they were all just a gussied up Uberti, they wouldn't have had to bother. This is just silly.

Johnathon is in Room 830 at The Children's Hospital of Birmingham 1600 5th Avenue South Birmingham, Al 35242. Drs are attempting to keep his oxygen saturation level. This weekend the plan is to keep him resting since the cardioversion to bring him out of A fib. On Monday, they will determine if he is strong enough for the open heart surgery that week to install a pacemaker. If successful, he will need to stay another week or so. Best case scenario. Please get the word out to anyone who believes in the power of prayer and healing. Thank you.
 

If I was to have any Heart surgery there is only two hospitals I would go to UAB  of course and Cleveland Clinic.

I used the 46-342W, since it is a copy of the original Winchester bullet.  However, my Uberti rifle had a 28" barrel and I didn't get lube all the way to the end, so I had Tom make the same mold with deeper grease grooves for a little more capacity.  I haven't had a chance to try it yet.  It turned out that accuracy sucked on the POS Uberti '76 because the chamber was nothing more than a "wide spot in the pipe", and didn't properly support the cartridge.  I'm waiting on it's return from Lee Shaver after having the barrel relined and properly chambered.  I expect it to shoot quite well once I get a chance to work with it's new incarnation.

Yes, it is the 43-215C.  I use it's cousin in my 38-40's. 

I universally love anything made by Tom at Accurate Molds!  I use his for all my pistol caliber (32-20, 38-40, 44-40, 44 Russian, 44 Colt, 44 Special, 45 Schofield, 45 Colt) and rifle caliber guns (38-55, 40-65, 45-75 and 45-70).

I have a couple of original 1873 Winchesters.  Imagine my delight when current production Marbles tang sights exactly fit them, even to using the standard Marbles screws!  All I did was remove the original filler screws (still there!) and screw on the Marbles - a 10 minute job.

If all else fails, you can have one made and properly marked by Alan Harton of Single Action Services in Houston, Texas.  He is a wizard with 1st and 2nd generation Colt SAA's.  I recently had him convert a mechanically sound, but ragged looking 32-20 Bisley into a beautiful 7-1/2" barreld 44 Special to match another I had.  He made the barrel himself and was an absolutely beautiful job.  You can reach him at 713-907-6031 or 713-772-8314.

In other news, I’ve taken on a new project in my journey as an author. I’ve begun work on a new book about the 2018 Carr Fire in Redding, CA. I was very involved in that incident, as a resident, first responder, and knowing many people that lost homes and businesses. I want to create a critical record of it all, covering all facets of the fire. I especially am wanting to touch on the fatalities that occurred, as pre-research they all appear to be preventable. In any case, that’s what I’m getting started on. I hope to get in contact with John N MacLean, who has written several books about fires (his father Norman also wrote several books, including A River Runs Through It), as well as being a fellow Missoulian.
