Uberti Richard's Transition Type II 1860 army conversion

I am looking for 5 1/2 barrel for one of my 1860 Richard's  Type II conversions. Uberti and other parts places are out of stock.

Unless you really want to keep the 8" barrel as well, your best bet is probably to send your barrel to a gunsmith to cut it down to your preferred length, and add a new front sight, most likely a dovetailed sight, unless the gunsmith is able to slot the barrel for the original style sight.  This would be a LOT less expensive than a new barrel, plus removing the ejector assembly and getting it installed in a new barrel can be a major pain with these guns (the ones I've had any experience with were extremely tight in the rammer slot, don't know if they are all that way).  And you wouldn't have to ship the whole gun, just the barrel.  Anyway, food for thought although you've probably already thought of it.

On the other hand, you could get really lucky and someone with a short barrel might want a long one!

Have him put a blade sight in it after he cuts it. It isn't hard, especially for a gunsmith. Then all that's needed is to clean it up and file it to the proper height for your loads.

Thanks. I did that myself. I cut the notch with a Dremel, two blades to get the width right, and silver soldered the sight in with a Burnz-O-Matic torch and Brownell's Hi-Force 44 solder. The sight was made from a nickel.

No, I only do this type of thing for own use. Steve Young in Texas is mighty good. I've had him do work for me when I needed a pro with more experience to do something. He can cut a dovetail if you would prefer, too.

Thanks. There are three remaining examples of Dances with octagonal barrels so that's the look I went for with it.

Now THAT is a "Proper" barrel for a Type II.  Getting rid of all that excess steel really improves the look, feel and balance.  Likes it alot!!

Numrich seems to have them. If yours is a 38 or 44 caliber.
