Water.  And what is the cleaning of guns between stages thing?  I clean guns between matches.

Based on my experience with black powder in my .45 Colt, the bore can become fouled after just one stage.

I am now ready to do the 44-40 thing, but haven't yet experimented with various combinations that MIGHT reduce that fouling.

Wife and I have a pair of those Rossi's. Hers is 38/.357 and mine is .45 Colt. The safety thing on hers seemed to become activated all by itself and then the rifle would not fire when she wanted. I neutered the darn thing. It looks like it is still there, but it cannot be activated.

Morning y'all.
Coffee and tea are ready.

"Tis 45 and sunny. "Breezy. Warmer. Mostly sunny. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 80s. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 15 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Chance of rain 20 percent."

I am planning to get a new made Rossi 92 lever gun.

But I despise the toggle safeties they make them with.

There is a potential fix...If the older Interarms era bolts that do not have these safeties will fit the newer guns.

Anyone have any experience with this?

I would assume the parts can be made to fit unless the dimensions are significantly different.

After my experiences with Italian percussion revolvers.. I assume nothing anymore.

Thanks.

The Powder Room - CAS reloading / Re: TRIPLE SEVEN

For shotgun, load 2.5 drams volume, nitro wad, cushion wad, 1 oz shot. Over shot card and crimp.

Have used it for a number of years now. Fill to the base of the bullet with no more than light compression, and it will deliver consistant velocity and minimal, nom cumulative fouling. Velocity will be close to the standard spec for the caliber. Or a .38 spl 150 grainer will be around 800 fps. Standard primers and moderate crimp. Clean with plain water and oil as normal. Cases dropped in plain water will be clean and ready to load after drying.  You will need to use bp lubed bullets for best results.

I use an RCBS mold, 45-225-CAV and lube with SPG.  It happens to carry just about the right amount of lube in both 24-¼" rifles.  The one on the left is after hitting it with a 2-½ lb hammer.

All these newbies and new fangled ideas... I've been shooting the same 1873 Uberti 24-¼" rifle in 45 Colt since 1987.  BP is not a disadvantage.  I've sanded down the sides of the carrier to give me at least .015-.020" clearance on both sides and can shoot a 3 day match (12 stages) without interruption.  I load ~25 grains of Goex "Cartridge" or 2F behind a 225 grain bullet of wheel weights from an RCBS 45-225-CAS mold (truncated cone)... Neither do I anneal cases, unless I'm shooting APP, it seems to foul a little bit more than real BP... but I haven't used enough to say that with the utmost confidence.  As I've used APP mostly in C45S cases.
