Uberti, Pietta and other SAA Clones / Re: My First Pietta!
Last post by Abilene - Today at 12:13:54 PM
Bringing this thread back instead of starting a new one.  My lone Pietta now has a match and is lone no longer!  Let me back up a couple years. At one of the big matches I won a Cimarron Pistoleer.  Not a Pistolero which is a lower priced model with a brass grip frame (They just gotta have a cutesie name for every model).  The Pistoleer is an all-blued gun with a nickeled steel backstrap, and the grip has the emblem.  It is 4 3/4" .357.  It is a 3-click gun and I never shot it. I actually have a 4-click hammer and trigger I could have put in it to pair it with the Pietta, but I'm not crazy about the looks since it isn't authentic and I never cared for emblems on grips, either.  So, I figured I'd sell it and buy a matching Pietta.  Took it to a friend's gunshop for consignment.  That was maybe 6 weeks ago.  I knew Cimarron had Pietta PP400's in stock so I went ahead and ordered one.  When I called the gunshop to tell them it was coming to them for the transfer, they said oh hey, we were about to call you, your Pistoleer sold!   :)   Good timing!  So, picked up the Pietta today.  It is very nice, no flaws except the blueing is uneven on the backstrap.  Now to compare to the older gun - 9 years older.  The newer one has the smaller markings on the barrel, certainly a positive, and the grip is either an oil finish or something that is definitely less glossy than the first gun, and that's a positive as well.  The case colors are darker on the new one, especially on the right side, and while you have to look closely, the blued steel has slightly less polish on the new gun.  The screw heads are definitely polished less.  The hammer pull on both is less than Uberti's out of the box.  I could live with this hammer pull without putting in a lighter spring.  I actually will probably not shoot these too much because I have plenty of others, but once I shoot them, who knows?  Okay, everyone knows what these guns look like, nothing special, but without pics, it didn't happen, right?  The playing cards indicate the caliber  :)

Here's a portion of an interview of Wyatt Earp.  It can be found online under the title of "Wyatt Earp on Gunfighting". I've often wondered if he had his own accident (mentioned above) in mind.

"On the second point, I have often been asked why five shots without reloading were all a top-notch gunfighter fired, when his guns were chambered for six cartridges. The answer is, merely, safety. To ensure against accidental discharge of the gun while in the holster, due to hair-trigger adjustment, the hammer rested upon an empty chamber. As widely as this was known and practiced, the number of cartridges a man carried in his six-gun may be taken as an indication of a man's rank with the gunfighters of the old school. Practiced gun-wielders had too much respect for their weapons to take unnecessary chances with them; it was only with tyros and would-bes that you heard of accidental discharges or didn't-know-it-was-loaded injuries in the country where carrying a Colt was a man's prerogative."

What does your box label say? They were made in 2004. Would you mind sending me a PM with your serial numbers? I'm trying to collect them. There's another BP frame consecutive set that isn't engraved in your serial range.

We can almost always find "documented" instances which may or may not support a particular position.  Often though, that position is of personal preference.  Also, one or three "Documented" happenstances does not create a "Detroit Recall."

Let us also not forget, those circumstances that create behaviors are subject to change without notice.  For the most part, we, in this century, don't have need of a Six Gun carried with Six-Up.  In fact, in most circles, in this century, carrying a Single Action Six-Gun for personal defense is seen as foolish.  I don't personally see a SAA as my choice for daily carry, but who am I to tell others what their preference should be.  I am however, of the Opine, if you can't get it done with Six, you should have been running away to start with.

After all, we do have "Documented" instances (lots of 'em) of Law Enforcement Officers emptying a double stack 9mm without hitting anything of importance.  My personal preference for carry is a 1911 with an 8 round mag in the gun with one "cocked and locked."  If I can't get it done with 9 > > > >
