Pedersoli Model 1873 Trapdoor Officer's Model?
« on: December 19, 2020, 01:49:25 AM »
Has anyone have experience with this rifle? I've been looking at it for a little bit and think it looks nice. But I want to see if anyone else likes theirs.

I've got one of the carbines, had it for 18 years now, it's been a good, accurate gun for me, no complaints.  The ejection is a little week compared to the originals, the empty case just hops out of the action vs over the shoulder,  Some folks install an original Springfield spring to correct this.  Good 3 groove barrels, easy to clean.
Civilize them with a Krag . . .

I got mine from Dixie. It has a 6 groove barrel and also has the rear barrel sight. I also ordered the wood pistol grip for it. I replaced the front sight with the correct Beach sight. The fit finish and quality is good. It doesn’t have any engraving. From what I have read the originals were sighted for the carbine cartridge. Overall I’m happy with mine.

I found mine in a Pawn Shop in Franklin NC .... I don't frequent Pawn Shops.
I happen to be in Franklin grocery shopping & we were staying in Highlands ( up the mountain)
Something said go inside, there it was  for $375 , I haggled just to see if I could and it was mine for $350 out the door.
Course that was about 1994-5.

I foolishly allowed it to past out of my possession in 05, however it took a $1250 offer to do so

I have the Pedersoli Long range Rifle. I really like it. I have added an original rifle rear sight and replaced the globe front sight with a sight that has the bayonet lug on it so that I can do reenacting with it.

I got the rifle model in October.   Slowly sighting it in.    Lots of fun and I have to say my Henry is getting jealous.

Pitsptr, where did you get the front sight?   And the bayonet for that matter?

Yours should already have the bayonet lug though it may take a file to allow the bayonet to fit. Years ago SARCO sold repro bayonets but you may end up needing to find a original. Try ebay, GunBroker and Auction arms

Get an original bayonet if possible.  Most of the repros just aren't that good.  Check any local antique stores, too.

The originals are best.

The SARCO ones weren't bad, but they usually required some filing to make them fit the bayonet lug on the sight base of original rifles. We used some of them at Ft. Hartsuff.
