The Barracks / Looking for a book recommendation
« Last post by LongWalker on June 10, 2021, 03:36:43 PM »
I'm trying to put together a bunch of assorted info; of course, that means I need more information.

I'm looking for (ideally) one volume or source that discusses arms issued to the various Army units in the west, and the dates they were in use, from roughly 1865-1880.  What info I've found so far is incomplete, scattered in coverage, occasionally contradictory, and drawn from more than a dozen different books.

Thanks,
Jim

This is what the bore looks like after around 150 jacketed rounds and some cleaning with ballistol. Im guessing thats some copper fouling here? Is this normal on a new rifle?

Reed:
We missed you and your posse of grandson's.  Hope all y'all can make it next year.

I too want to thank everyone who attended as well as the KVC and the others who helped make it a success.

We've barricaded the doors and windows . . .
not going to let that Heat Monster into the house today!

As soon as Rita gets home we are going grocery shopping for us and her brother, will involve most the afternoon and 3-4 stops.

But if you came out with a shorter cylinder, how would you lengthen the barrel?

Good point. As for why would they think anyone would shoot black powder in a Schofield. They might have given a thought to the hundreds of thousands of "black powder" revolvers they and their fellow Italian gun makers have sold in the United States. We stupid Americans seem to like shooting the old propellent, unlike all those enlightened Italians.
