I am going to get a 51/2 barrel for the R/M

I dunno about 4831, but I can recommend 4350 as a midrange powder at about 60% of a full load as listed in manuals. I.have used it as a midrange smokeless load in .30-30 and in .45-70.  (mv s come out similar to a full load of BP.)

I came upon the idea reading the Rifleman when it was a true technical guide to firearms use. A 60% load of 4350 in a .30 '06 or .308 was a favorite practise load under a heavy cast bullet at 200 yards on the NRA course.

Well, haven’t figured out how to post photos from my iPhone yet (can’t resize), but I thought I’d update y’all anyways. So, information on what a pre-1885 Winchester sling looked like exactly has been extremely hard to find, so with the help of our own Buck Stinson and Brushy Creek Douglas, I’m moving ahead with my best educated guess. I was able to find both the front and rear swivels complete at a good price from Winchester Bob (call if interested- they weren’t listed as current on his website), and I’m glad I won’t have to fabricate that front swivel from scratch- though I will still have to modify the nosecap to receive it. My buddy Ethan (Brushy Creek Douglas) sent us some photos of a sling on an 1876 Winchester that shipped with swivels and sling in 1884, and the sling really seems to match up well with what we guess the pre-1890s Winchester slings were like- with a simple brass wire buckle, and a double button at one end as the later patent slings retained. This sling is 1-1/4” wide, and while the later slings were 1”, my guess is that the earlier ones were indeed wider as the sling swivel loops are more than large enough to comfortably accommodate the wider sling. Anyhow, I have the brass button, and have a buckle loop on the way that I will have to add a tongue to, and then that hardware will be off to Buck to be united to the leather portion, and my Cimarron ‘73 will soon be sporting a beautiful, new, very much period-correct (if not Winchester reproduction correct!) useful sling.

The cylinder pin on an original is quite different and a smaller diameter than the reproductions.  With that said even if the cylinder fit in the area, the pin would not fit through the frame.   

You could turn down the rod (pin) so it would fit the ejector housing, through the frame and into the recoil shield, but how would you reduce the diameter of the hole through the cylinder unless you added a bushing of some sort.

A lot of machining.  Do you have a photo of your frame, is it stripped or are some parts intact.

I have used reproduction main springs and bolt (cylinder stop) as replacements but the bolt needed a lot of fitting.  The hand assembly would also need extensive re-contouring to get the pistol to time correctly (longer and fatter than the original.  Also softer metal….

With my tongue firmly planted in my cheek, I'm curious...
What with the culture it is today, did you pay more for the rifle or the paper products on the back shelf in the pic? Guess it can go either way.
