I've been listenin' to Charlie since he came out with "The Uneasy Rider" in about 73.

Got a MMM album from I think 71 or 72, he does a cover of Hank's (Removes hat) Mansion on the Hill, has Charlie and Willie and Johnny Denver doin' instuments and background vocals on it.

When Fords and Lincolns was settin' the pace?

It's got a Lincoln motor and it's really souped up
That Model A Vitimix makes it look like a pup

With a four-barrel carb and a dual exhaust

It's got safety tubes, but I ain't scared

Pulled out of San Pedro late one night
The moon and the stars was shinin' bright
We was drivin' up Grapevine Hill
Passing cars like they was standing still

All of a sudden in a wink of an eye
A Cadillac sedan passed us by
I said, "Boys, that's a mark for me!"
By then the tail light was all you could see

Now the fellas was ribbin' me for bein' behind
So I thought I'd make the Lincoln unwind
Took my foot off the gas and man alive
I shoved it on down into overdrive

The cops was after my Hot Rod Lincoln!

They arrested me and they put me in jail
And called my pappy to throw my bail

I like the ASAW version.  Ray Benson patterned alot of his early stuff after Commander Cody. I think Johnny Bond was the first to come out with Hot Rod Lincoln.

The Hot Rod Race was released in November, 1950. It sold 200,000 copies. It was written by George Wilson and recorded by Arkie Shibley and the Mountain Dew Boys.  Hot Rod Lincoln came out in 1955. It was written and recorded by Charlie Ryan. Johnny Bond recorded it in 1960 and Commander Cody in 1972.

This is my favorite most memorable car song. Think I was just nine er ten when I first heard it. Prolly in the garage werkin’ on a car with the ole man.
