On this day in 1982 Marty Robbins heeded the masters call.
Arcey, I don't know myself but did Marty ever win a race? No matter, the man had fun. His car was cool, had a lot less stickers clutterin' it up.
Sam was robbed by a prostitute and shot by her PIMP.
I heard it thru the carbine.

S OT you must be listening to the same station I was listening too... I heard it on the way to work Sat morning

With a good radio on a hill round here you can get 3-4 stations, all playin' the same music, just different ads.

And a lot of people are saying that America's fixing to fall
But speaking just for me and some people from Tennessee
We got a thing or two to tell you all
This lady may have stumbled but she ain't never fell
And if the Russians don't believe that they can all go straight to hell
We're gonna put her feet back on the path of righteousness
And then God bless America again
And you never did think that it ever would happen again
In America, did you?
You never did think that we'd ever get together again
Well we damn sure fooled you
We're walking real proud and we're talking real loud again in America
You never did think that it ever would happen again
From the sound up in Long Island out to San Francisco Bay
And ev'ry thing that's in between them is our home
And we may have done a little bit of fighting amongst ourselves
But you outside people best leave us alone
Cause we'll all stick together and you can take that to the bank
That's the cowboys and the hippies and the rebels and the yanks
You just go and lay your hands on a Green Bay Packers fan
And I think you're gonna finally understand
And you never did think that it ever would happen again
In America, did you?
You never did think that we'd ever get together again
Well we damn sure fooled you
We're walking real proud and we're talking real loud again in America
You never did think that it ever would happen again
Sam Houston moved to Huntsville and died there. A few years ago, they erected a large statue of him on I 45 south of Hubtsville, Texas. They light it at night.
Good song lyrics, Sodbuster. The way life used to be, too bad it's not that way anymore.

I was listenin' to some ELO and thought this would be a good one to post:
Wish I was, yeah, a wild west hero.
Sometimes i look up high and then I think there might
just be a better life.
Away from all we know, that's where I wanna go,
out on the wild side
and I wish I was, o-oo-o-oh, a wild west hero.
Ride the range all the day till the first fading light,
be with my western girl round the fire, oh, so bright.
I'd be the Indians friend, let them live to be free,
ridin' into the sunset, I wish I could be.
I'd ride the desert sands and through the prairie lands,
try'n to do what's right.
The folks would come to me, they'd say, we need you here.
I'd stay there for the night.
Oh, I wish I was, o-oo-o-oh, a wild west hero.
Ride the range all the day till the first fading light,
be with my western girl round the fire, oh, so bright.
I'd be the Indians friend, let them live to be free,
ridin' into the sunset, I wish I could be.
Oh, I wish I was, o-oo-o-oh, a wild west hero.

Del, that song says it all.
It's really agood station to listen to. It's not the kind of station that you would expect an Ol' redneck Cowboy Cop to listen to.
Who would have thought that Willie would live this long?
Ah was borned in McComb. What does that make me? ;D
When Merle recorded the Okie from Muskogee album, he was at the Muskogee Civic Center, a friend and I went that night, it sold out a long time before everyone got a ticket that wanted one, we stood outside with about 2 or 3 thousand others, They set up speakers on the front side of the building so everybody outside could hear everything,
we all got a kick out of it, seeing as how most all of us there had been born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, USA ;D

The Declaration of Independence
Think I could tell you that first sentence
But then I’m lost
I can't begin to count the theories
I've had pounded in my head
That I forgot
I don't remember all that Spanish
Or the Gettysburg address
But there is one speech from high school
I'll never forget
Come on in boy sit on down
And tell me about yourself
So you like my daughter do you now?
Yeah we think she's something else
She's her daddy's girl
Her momma's world
She deserves respect
That’s what she'll get
Ain’t it son?
Hey y'all run along and have some fun
I'll see you when you get back
Bet I’ll be up all night
Still cleanin' this gun
Well now that I’m a father
I’m scared to death one day my daughter
Is gonna find
That teenage boy I used to be
That seems to have just one thing on his mind
She’s growin' up so fast
It won't be long before
I’ll have to put the fear of god into
Some kid at the door
Come on in boy sit on down
And tell me about yourself
So you like my daughter do you now?
Yeah we think she's something else
She's her daddy's girl
Her momma's world
She deserves respect
That’s what she'll get
Now ain't it son?
Y’all go out and have some fun
I'll see you when you get back
Probably be up all night
Still cleanin' this gun
Now it's all for show
Ain’t nobody gonna get hurt
It’s just a daddy thing
And hey, believe me, man it works
Come on in boy sit on down
And tell me about yourself
So you like my daughter do you now?
Yeah we think she's something else
She's her daddy's girl
Her momma's world
She deserves respect
That’s what she'll get
Now ain't it son?
Y’all run along and have a little fun
I'll see you when you get back
Probably be up all night

Son, now y'all buckle up and have her back by te- let's say about nine...thirty.

Del, That's Hollywood for you.
If they didn't make it up they would have to do actual research. Most of em don't have the brains for that. In almost every modern movie you will see scenes where the hero's shirt gets ripped or his hat flies off and in that very next shot it's back to normal. If they can't keep simple things like that straight, how are they ever going to deal with actual facts? ???[/b]
Folks in Hollywood like to make it up as they go along.
Looks better on film. If they stuck to the facts, people wouldn't go to see the movie.........Buck 8) ::)
You and Susie think the same way, lR. She gives me a lot of grief when I watch the History Channel. Usually have to go in the other room to watch it..................Buck 8) ::)

It may be his best role!
But - giving him a break, he's not TOO bad. I liked his acting in Tombstone. (says Doc) "You know: Stephen ....ing Foster!" I enjoy that part and later when Doc says "I know ... we'll have a spelling contest!" Doc has the best lines, but Church played the fool well.

<intro instrumental and whistling>
Well, I never felt more like singin' the blues
'cause I never thought that I'd ever lose
Your love dear, why'd you do me this way?
Well, I never felt more like cryin' all night
'cause everythin's wrong, and nothin' ain't right
Without you, you got me singin' the blues.
The moon and stars no longer shine
The dream is gone I thought was mine
There's nothin' left for me to do
But cry-y-y-y over you (cry over you)
Well, I never felt more like runnin' away
But why should I go 'cause I couldn't stay
Without you, you got me singin' the blues.

-the # 4 song of the 1955-1959 rock era
-was # 1 for 10 weeks in 1956
-competing version by Marty Robbins hit # 17
Got that one here at work by Don Edwards on his tribute album to Marty, most folks when they here it thinks it be him instead of Don, good by either.
I guess I am the odd man out. When I think of that song, I think of Guy Mitchell.
Leon is a little wierd, but he can tickle those horse teeth. "Up on the Highwire".
He might be weird but he's made a living for 40 years being it....If any of you got a LP copy of the origanol OUTLAWS Willie Waylon TomPaul Jessie, I believe Leon was also in the credits on most of the cuts
Curley who today was hitting the repeat button on Them doing Gloria, and Here Comes The Night...
I have an old record from the '60's, it was either Vern Goshin or Gene Clark (after the Birds) anyways on the back up list, it has Leon Russel on keys and Glen Campbell on guitar.
I love readin credits on albums and even the movies, unbelieveable what ya see there. One of the most prolific makers of album covers was Dean O. Torrance...(of Jan and Dean fame) everybody from the Dirt Band on...If you have some old vinel (sp) look at the backs and see who was playing and who made the covers...very entertaining reading...
Curley who today was hitting the repeat button on Them doing Gloria, and Here Comes The Night...
I'm sure glad that I am not as old as you guys and that classic music.

I listened to mostly country back then on my 8 Track player. Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, and Marty Robbins. Leo, you would have to have been an infant in 1972.
To add another clue to Leo's: I don't know Who is waterin' the Wall. But it ain't no guy named Floyd.
Del's question is about a pee-pee song, not an album cover.

The city had a vendor’s contract with one of council’s favorite dependants. The contract contained a provision allowin’ the vendor a percentage of the profits of anything sold on premises by anyone. They went after Chapin’s souvenir sales. Best I recall all that was for the charities he supported ‘n he was pissed.
The whole thing caused a real big stink here, The Field House was smaller ‘n it sold out early. He sat on stage ‘n told us his side of it. Said the city could shove Chrysler Hall up their asses.
Man that was too easy, I gotta work harder now....But, actually it was "Dr Wests Medicine Show and Junk Band..Still how many folks know that song, let alone who done it...what a group!!!<g>

Weren't many pieces that took up both sides of an LP so-- I hope you don't mind if I sit this one out... ;D
Good luck Rooster, it wouldn't suprise me ta see Del pull an answer outta his hat. (Are side bets appropriate here?)

He don't care what you play on the radio either Tex, as long as you play it loud ;D
I'm still looking at all the clues.
Boy doing a Google search on this one is coming up Zip...Hope Del has better luck. Maybe Alex Trebbec's Teleprompter has the right answer.
Or Curley Cole or Four Eyed Buck.
SHB, LR is right I have to play it LOUD. I carried a Colt ACP for about 15 years. Shot them alot without ear protection. I tuned on race cars, again no ear protection. We need to talk about the CAF. Maybe we can, I am planning on coming to the Muster. My Dad was a B25 pilot in WWII. He started in B17s before the War started. He was switched to 25s and sent to Florida. He would have been flying one of those B17s that tried to land at Hickman on the 7th. He was a Eglin field in Fla. while Doolittle's Raiders were training to take off from the Hornet. They didn't tell anyone until it was over. The Group was reorganized and put in the 12th Air Force and sent to North Africa just before the Battle od Cazarine Pass. He spent 42 through 45 overseas, North Africa and the Med. They had modified some 25s with 75 mm howitsers mounted in the nose to attack German E Boats.

SHB, Your tastes run like mine. Rap is definately off my list, as well as some of the newer stuff they've got out now. Love the Big Band stuff, played that in my younger days as a lead trumpet. Not enough wind now, plus the lip is pretty flabby ::) :o..........................Buck 8) ;)

Buck, I played first chair horn in a Big Band in Jr High.
Second chair always got the solos but loved hitting that last note in "In the Mood". I don't do nomore either--got lost in the guitar.
Steel, ya just described my record collection ;D I've got a Herb Albert & the Tiajuana Brass "Going Places" with a picture of him in a bi-plane on the cover. I think its right next to the Ten Years After ;) (Alvin Lee was somethin else!)

Mine was tu-tone, Leo. The Yamaha is silver plate, can't remember what the Severensen was. Think it was nickled.......Buck 8)

I don't blame you one bit................Buck 8)
Sounds like one fine liquorice stick Steel.
I've noticed sentimentality over instruments is about the same as good guns (even though I traded the Olds). It's hard ta let em go an when they do, you have ta know it's the RIGHT home.
Leo
My best friend back then and to this day played clarinet and tenor sax.
It was cool cause both our horns were in B flat (alto sax is in E or A or sumpthin) an we could jam together lookin at the same piece of music whithout transposin. He don't play anymore either but we still spend hours on the phone talkin music. :)
Leo
It's in E, Leo ::) the tenors are in b-flat as are clarinets and the normal trumpets/coronets. My wife plays flute/piccolo, and is still active via her school alumni band. They do parades and concerts during the summer. I also have a spare horn, but can't remember what brand it is at the moment. Probably dates back to the '50's I think..........Buck 8) ;)
I had a Martin D18 from around the time I was 19 up until about 1998, roughly 28 years. Had some problems and hadn't played it in years, wound up selling it for twice what I paid for it. Nowadays I kinda regret doing it. I am thinking about picking up a Yamaha acoustic to plink around on. I have a cheap electric that I pull out of the closet every once in a while. I am so out of practice my fingers start to hurt after a few songs. That Martin and what I could play at the time got me into quite a few parties and free food and drink to boot.
I played Safety ‘n right field………..

Course I think we can all relate to this one by the Bellamy Brothers to some degree or another. ::)ourse the song itself is over 20 years old. :o
I've trying to find a copy of NBC's miniseries about the 60's, too young to remember anything about it.
"The Ride" and the "Perfect Country and Western Song" are my favorite David Alan Coe songs.
Willie was a well kept secret everywhere but Texas. I saw him in the 60s when he had a crewcut and wore a turtleneck and a sportcoat.
Yeah, I fergot about one a the words he used in there. I was concerned about the obvious one an the one about his sister--but the other won't do. Didn't look up the song til just now ::)

I love that song! Yes, I'll admit it. I'm a Denver fan AND a Diamond fan. 8)
I might have to to put that soundtrack on....
Curley, Now you're tellin' everone how old you are. There's some of these folks that may have been in diapers back then or maybe not even born yet. One of my favorite stories is about the Miniseries on NBC about the 60s. One of the young officers asked if I saw the show. I said, Hell, why would I watch that on TV, I was there during the 60s.
Leo, I've already had my 40th HS reunion(3 yrs ago) and in 2 more years I'll have my 40th College reunion. I'm wondering what happened to the 70s, 80s, and the 90's. Next year I'll eligible for SS. If I'd known that I was gonna live this long, I would have taken better care of myself.
My 40th is next year also, dang we sure got a bunch a old f--ts on this thread! ;D
Awwwwww, hell yeah! I found that. Pretty good. She’s about a cute l’il Tom-Boy. See where she’s covered a few Heart songs but the videos aren’t very good. Did do ‘Barracuda’ with a rock band ‘n it looked like Nancy Wilson was on stage too. The girl may be country but she can rock too if that video’s any indication. Wanna look at that one again when I got the time.
Thanks for the tip on ‘Redneck Woman’, Tex. I enjoyed the heck outtah it.
Arcey she's just a fustrated Rock n Roller like so many of them in Nashville these days
LR, I think you're right. Apparently that's what sells in Nashville these days.
There sure sumpn about a Sharp Dressed Man!
All I listen to on the air durin’ the week is talk. Weekends when the talk isn’t interestin’ I program my own stuff with CDs. Couple pards went satellite. I went on line ‘n looked at the line ups. I wouldn’t use it so I ain’t bought it. Saw the NASCAR talk shows but it’s all the same news ‘n rumors I read everyday on the ‘net ‘n it would conflict with my other listenin’ habits.
Weren't Roadhog and the Cadillac Cowbows realy the Statler Bros? Can't be sure, but I remember somethin about it.
Tripped oer one when I was lookin for another awhile back. Micheal McDonald doin nther bands song with em. Man, when hes outta his voice range hes really bad ..
I wa jus listen ta that guitar. Not often ya see a guy do Heartbreaker wearin a suit an a western hat :) Haven't heard enough of his singin ta make a judgement. McDonald has a set a pipes that's hard ta beat.

Just listened to the surf medley. Brought back memories of going to hear Dick Dale and the Deltones at the Blelly Up in Solana Beach CA.
That was when I lived in Oceanside, and was going though my conversion form Beach Dude to Cowboy. Still like Surf music now and then.

Just listened to the surf medley. Brought back memories of going to hear Dick Dale and the Deltones at the Blelly Up in Solana Beach CA.

Dick Dale King of the Surf Guitar. What about the "Ventures"?
thinking back about all that Rock and Roll reminds me of the sock hops they used to have at school after the football and basketball games after games on Friday nights, pull off yer shoes, roll up a cuff on yer levi's and cut loose. ;D
One song I can remember being played there and at the skating rink, a lot, The lion sleeps tonight, seem like it was awful popular.
when our school intergated in 1966, the sock hops ended, They weren't gonna take no chances of mixed couple dancing.
The Lion Sleeps Tonight
With variation on the lyrics its now a cat flea killer commercial
Never did care much for the lion song but that’s just me.
Funny thing. My oldest ‘n I were out in the sticks one evenin’ takin’ a top down ride. Had a fifties tape in the stereo. That came on ‘n she reached o’er ‘n turnt it up. Reckon she was 13 or 14 back then.

Del is playing that good Cowboy music!
Ah, some Rob Quist w/ Great Northern out of Kalispell, MT...Kid Russell, great stuff, glad to see it pushing past the Big Sky borders.
Cowboy music has always been a favorite of mine. I grew up listening to Roy and Gene. These new atrists are carrying on the tradition. My dad was a big Bob Wills fan, so I grew up listening to Western Swing. Wstern Swing has strong roots in Texas and Okla. If you're gonna play in Texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the band. Asleep at the Wheel is carrying on that tradition. I've been an ASAW fan since about 72 0r 73. The first album of their's that I bought was an 8- track.
Natalie Maines was just bein’ a good l’il brainwashed socialist who thought she’d get a cheap pop by sayin’ something before a British crowd she wouldn’t have said on stage in Texas. I reckon she didn’t think werd would get across the pond.
Didn't she also make some referance to Toby Keith's "Angry American" song, not a big Toby fan, but my hand is out for him on that one. Someone told me he owns a resteraunt somewhere and feeds active and former servicemen for free.
That was the FTK t-shirt thing?
OK, I was all wrong on the venue, but that's what happened. Lost 3 girls a good career preenin to the appropriate crowd.
Leo
What she forgot is freedom of speech gives folks the right to dislike you for it, very important.
This is a very profound statement and needs rememberin.
Leo
From what I’ve heard it was a very expensive lesson.
You know when the Spin Doctors start trying to explain what the letters on a t-shirt mean, then they mean exactly what you thought they did.

Pardon Me Boys, Is that the Chattanooga CHOO CHOO?
Ya Gotta Love Chief Dan in "Outlaw Josey Wales."
LR, I'm seein' Huey in a new light. Didn't know he was a "good ole boy" at heart. Ol Ray Benson is a big guy. He's got a pair of white boots with black wingtips, they gotta be about size 14 or 15 with real pointy toes. You know the kind, real "cockroach stompers".
Hey, The original Coca Cola was made with Coca leaves down in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
nutha Love song ;D
Can you feel the LOVE?
Arcey, that brings back some memories of old Gloria, a girl in our school, when the women went to protesting and burning bras, back in the mid 60's, one day she just left hers home, sure made us sit up and take notice, that was the first time we'd ever seen anything like that, the principal made her wear her sweater the rest of the day and told her not to come back like that, but I sure remember that 1st hour English class that day. :o :o ;D ;D
I say that quite a bit at work, when the guys are pissin an moaning at each other
Does that mean corn cobs will be in short supply?
Better watch buyin' that hominy, it's made from corn an' corn prices has skyrocketed! :o
Hmm, 'bout that time, the doom and gloom folks said we was gonna have an Ice Age, now the same ones say Global Warmin' always wondered why it changed 180 degrees, now I know, was them burnin' bras that caused the change. ::)
To this day I still don’t believe I was drunk ‘nuff ta get on stage with Lucky Bill ‘n do the Martin/Nelson duet of ‘My Rifle, My Pony ‘n Me’ in front of a dinin’ room fullah strangers. They were nice ‘nuff to applaud. They mustah been drunk too.
Lucky Bill can sing. I can’t.
True. But them times was ‘round pards what knew I couldn’t carry a note in a slop bucket.
Seem ta recall the Sons of the Dead Pioneers ya were involved in….

Are there any audio or videos of any of this singin'? I'm thinkin' American Idol or Nashville Star! I'm willin' to cut myself in for 10 percent as an agent. What ya say?
Bro. Sleep, Any picture with good lookin' women in it , is okay with me.

Later on after I became a cop I listened to Bill Mack on his all-night radio show.
Police in general really don't like to be "messed with" by drunks or the general public. Folks are more likely to be put in jail when they stick their feet in their mouths. It's always a good idea not to be too "mouthy" when you're around cops. It will probably keep you out of jail. When drunks get out in public, they better get ready to meet the cops and probably end up in jail.
" Somethings' happenin' here, what it is ain't exactly clear"!
What’s a Grateful Dead fan say when they’re sober at a ‘concert’?
Arcey, I may need to move to Canada after this next election.
I'm not worried about myself, It's that big UNKNOWN factor that I'm worried about.
Even so, I'm still not real excited about the possibilites.
I was just listenin' to Chris sing that song the other day. ;D
Oh boy! The man who sung the working man's most favorite song: ;D
(Chorus:)
Take this job and shove it
I ain't working here no more
My woman done left and took all the reasons
I was working for
You better not try to stand in my way
As im a walking out the door.
Take this job and shove it
I ain't working here no more
Ive been workin in this factory
From now on fifteen years
All this time I watched my woman
Drowning in a pool of tears
And Ive seen a lot of good folk die
Who had a lot of bills to pay
I'd give the shirt right off of my back
If I had the nerve to say
(Chorus)
Well that foreman, hes a regular dog
The line boss, hes a fool
Got a brand new flat-top haircut
Lord, he thinks hes cool
One of these days, Im gonna blow my top
And that sucker, hes gonna pay
Lord I cant wait to see their faces
When I get up the nerve to say
(Chorus)
I was just listenin' to Chris sing that song the other day. ;D
It was written and first released in the 1970's by Johnny Paycheck.
I haven't seen Kris star in many winners. Netflix had it, so I put it in my list and bumped it to the top to watch next. ;D
What was the title to the really long one, about the Johnson County Wars with him?
"Heaven's Gate"
Nuther one by Hoyt, he also let some other guys sing it. ;D
Well I never been to Spain
But I kinda like the music
Say the ladies are insane there
And they sure know how to use it
They don't abuse it
Never gonna lose it
I can't refuse it
Well I never been to England
But I kinda like the Beatles
Well, I headed for Las Vegas
Only made it out to Needles
Can you feel it
must be real it feels so good
Oh, feels so good
Well I never been to Heaven
But I been to Oklahoma
Well they tell me I was born there
But I really don't remember
In Oklahoma, not Arizona
What does it matter
What does it matter
Whoa, I never been to Spain
But I kinda like the music
Say the ladies are insane there
And they sure know how to use it
They don't abuse it
Never gonna lose it
I can't refuse it
Well I never been to Heaven
But I been to Oklahoma
Well they tell me I was born there

Here's one from another guy who was nice enough ta let a couple other artists make some dough off his stuff.
She caught the Katy, and left me a mule to ride
She caught the Katy, and left me a mule to ride
My baby caught the Katy, left me a mule to ride
The train polled out, and I swung on behind
I'm crazy 'bout her, that hardheaded woman of mine
Man my baby's long, great god she's mighty she's tall
you know my baby's long, great god she's mighty my baby she's tall
Well my baby she's long, my baby she's tall
she sleeps wiht her head in the kitchen and her big feet out in the hall
And I'm still crazy 'bout her, that hardheaded woman of mine
Well I love my baby, she's so fine
I wish she'd come and see me some time
If you don´t believe I love her,
Look what a hole I'm in
If you don't believe I'm sinking,
Look what a shape I'm in
She caught the Katy, and left me a mule to ride
She caught the Katy, and left me a mule to ride
Well my baby caught the Katy, left me a mule to ride

Ever heard of The Jerk Water Line? :)
Pardon Me boy, Is that the Chattanooga CHOO CHOO! ?
I've got it by A.P. Cater, think he wrote it. :)
Got any more of them smoky train pics, Del???? 8) ::)
Nope...
"The Wabash Cannonball" is an American folk song about a fictional train, thought to have originated sometime in the late nineteenth century. Its first documented appearance was on sheet music published in 1882, titled "The Great Rock Island Route" and credited to J. A. Roff.
Del, Do you have anymore info on the steam engine and does it run on a regular basis.
Was that one of those really big ones that were some of the last steamers developed? Forget what they called them.......Buck 8) ::)
I go up to Cheynne sometimes in the summer for Frontier Days. I didn't the engine was up there. I will go by the depot. Thanks for the info Del.
Judging from that black smoke, they oughta put it back to a coal burner. Probably be cheaper to run now that way than burning oil...................Buck 8) ::) ;)
Yep, build just before WWII, was built as a coal burner, changed to oil after WWII. The Big Boys were bigger and a couple back east were about the same, these were for fast freight and fast passangers service across plains where they could open it up. The Big Boys were just to haul coal from Utah to Cheynne, more power, but much slower. This one is a 4-6-6-4, the Big Boy was a 4-8-8-4.
I like Johnny Cash's verison of this
Never heard that about the underground railroad...
From John and Alan Lomax who co-wrote with Lead Belly after hearing in sung by a prison work gang.
The verses tell a humorous story about a train operator who smuggled pig iron through a toll gate by claiming all he had on board was livestock.

I can identify with a lot of those lyrics except that part about not wearing underwear. I gotta have my SUPPORT!
I think that Randolph Scott is playin' with Lester Moron and his Cadillac Cowboys at the dance at Johnny Mack Brown High School Gym this Sat. night.
This one should be called "While My Ukelele Gently Weeps" The man tears this thing up.

Heared this’n t’other day. Gottah be good. There’s a dog, cat ‘n a pickup truck in it.
It was Della and a dealer and a dog named Jake,
And a cat named Kalamazoo,
Left the city in a pick-up truck.
Gonna make some dreams come true.
Yeah, they rolled out west where the wild sun sets,
And the coyote bays at the moon.
Della and a dealer and a dog named Jake,
And a cat named Kalamazoo.
If that cat could talk, what tales he'd tell,
About Della and the Dealer and the dog as well.
But the cat was cool,
And he never said a mumblin' word.
Down Tucson way there's a small cafe,
Where they play a little cowboy tune.
And the guitar picker was a friend of mine,
By the name of Randy Boone.
Yeah, Randy played her a sweet love song,
And Della got a fire in her eye.
The Dealer had a knife and the dog had a gun,
And the cat had a shot of rye.
If that cat could talk, what tales he'd tell,
About Della and the Dealer and the dog as well.
But the cat was cool,
And he never said a mumblin' word.
Yeah, the Dealer was a killer; he was evil and mean,
And he was jealous of the fire in her eyes.
He snorted his coke through a century note,
And he swore that Boone would die.
And the stage was set when the lights went out,
There was death in Tucson town.
Two shadows ran for the bar back door,
But one stayed on the ground.
If that cat could talk, what tales he'd tell,
About Della and the Dealer and the dog as well.
But the cat was cool,
And he never said a mumblin' word.
If that cat could talk, what tales he'd tell,
About Della and the Dealer and the dog as well.
But the cat was cool,
And he never said a mumblin' word.
Two shadows ran from the bar that night,
And a dog and a cat ran too.
And the tires got hot on the pickup truck,
As down the road they flew.
It was Della and her lover and a dog named Jake,
And a cat named Kalamazoo.
Left Tucson in a pickup truck.
Gonna make some dreams come true.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
If that cat could talk, what tales he'd tell,
About Della and the Dealer and the dog as well.
But the cat was cool,
And he never said a mumblin' word.
Hoyt was one hell of a songwriter. It's shame I don't where Al is runnun' for the senate. It would give me a chance to vote against him.
Mebbe the Brits were the only ones able ta stay awake through it.
British comedy is a little different from ours.
Lee Hazlewood was a better songwriter than he was a singer.
Al Franken was never funny.
I'll give ya good tune instead.
This is the full version with neat pictures ta go with it. There is another one on there much shorter but ya get ta see Buddy beat the hell outta them drums an Benny wailin on the liquerice stick.

I think they did a whole series of shots cause one of em looks like they're dancin in that same kitchen. I saw it in a book called The Best of Life that my Gramma had. Would stare at the pages of that book for hours everytime we went ta visit. I've found other similar books since but not the same one. It was the best history lesson I could ever have had.

I've been listenin' to Charlie since he came out with "The Uneasy Rider" in about 73.
Always like them car songs.

nothin' sensitive 'bout it :o
Well a proper sense-a-tive trained friend would have got Arcey some Beano, or a cork.

LR, I went to a good rodeo yesterday afternoon in Dallas at the AA Center. The Stampede is the last PRCA rodeo before the NFR. They held the first NFR in Dallas 50 years ago. Moose's cousin George Williams was a saddle bronc rider back then. He traveled with Casey Tibbs and was one of Freckles Brown's pallbearers. They had a group picture of them back then on the Jumbo Tron and she saw him in the picture. We're tryin' to get a copy of it.
That's a good un! Looks like maybe Wyo. on Montana. Pretty country though. Some old hands in those pictures.
LR, that's pretty good. Everybody needs a bridlin' down once in awhile.

Here's my favorite right now, very poetic in what it says. First time I heard it I cried in my truck, not very "manly" but you know what, something like that deserves it.

I've brought home a few friends to that rolling field, to Fiddler's Green, and played TAPS at their funerals, since I was/am the trumpet player. Arlington by Trace Adkins
never thought that this is where I'd settle down,
I thought I'd die an old man back in my hometown,
They gave me this plot of land, me and some other men,
for a job well done.
There's a big white house sits on a hill just up the road,
The man inside he cried the day they brought me home,
They folded up a flag, and told my mom and dad, 'We're proud of your son'.
And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property,
I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company,
I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done,
I can rest in peace, I'm one of the chosen ones,
I made it to Arlington.
I remember daddy brought me here when I was eight,
We searched all day to find out where my granddad lay,
And when we finally found that cross,
He said, 'Son this is what it cost, to keep us free'.
Now here I am a thousand stones away from him,
He recognized me on the first day I came in,
And it gave me a chill, when he clicked his heels, and saluted me.
And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property,
I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company,
And I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done,
I can rest in peace, I'm one of the chosen ones,
I made it to Arlington.
And every time I hear, twenty-one guns,
I know they brought another hero home, to us.
We're thankful for those thankful for the things we've done,
We can rest in peace, 'cause we were the chosen ones,
We made it to Arlington, yea, dust to dust
Don't cry for us, we made it to Arlington.
long night at the asylum...(especially since I only have 11 days left to retirement. dang good thing, too since our beloved Govinator had decreed that all state employees will have to have 2 furlough days (that is work for no pay) per month from 2-09 til JUNE 2010!.......now that is sufferin'
curley
I'm sure that sounded like a good idea to somebody up there high in goberment, but that don't sound too good for the working fella's

Better turn it over ta Arcey, he was IA.
Halle Berry ain't bad either as the new Catwoman.
Let's hope that didn't happen to the Trin Man last night and this morning.
LR, Is he any kin to Michael Gaffney the Bull rider?
Searched and found this one, from 1992, back when CMT was all video and some of it was even good. ;D
Love the road trains in the video.

LOL
no kidding. although you gotta admit, Big Redneck wedding, Country Fried Home Videos, and Gone Country are pretty darn funny... poor city slickers!
Now the Indians are dressing up like cowboys
And the cowboys are putting leather and turquoise on
And the music is sold by lawyers
And the fools who fiddled in the middle of the stations are gone
Several who try to keep Country music where it should be have covered this one, but don't get much air play, although I here it's one of Alllan Jackson's most requested live.Great song, Del. ;D
Guess the guy who wrote it did it best. ;)

I don't like all this Loud Techno-country stuff, Give me Traditional country, Cowboy music, and Western Swing.
Let's give a hand to Hank the Father! SA LUTE!
It's unfortunate that Hank died at such an early age, 29, He was idol to the poor and the working class people.
Them lawyers are just gonna take all your money. Send more guns and ammo!hear hear!! maybe some military friends too, lawyers won't do a bit of help in that situation!
We made chains out of the pull tops and used them to decorate the Christmas tree at our trailer houses after I moved off campus.
Falstaff used to come that way.
Those cans were a little before my time. I grew up with the pop tops that some folks would drop in the can after openin em an end up chokin on the things. Droppin a razor sharp piece a metal in my soda never seemed like a good ider ta me ::)
I think Pabst used them too.
In the late 80's Blue Ribbon was still considered the premium beer in Iowa. It's been second shelf out here for as long as I can remember. But then agin, Hamms an Oly were also considered "the good stuff" right along side Bud an Coors. Miller High Life too bafore they started up with that Genuine Draft slop.
Leo, I envy you guys that play. I never got around to learning and besides I'm left-handed.

Thirty second ad, thirty millon………
Paul McCartney is left handed. Don’t look like it bothered ‘im none. Did a damned good Super Bowl half time.
This year won’t be werth watchin’. Bruce Springstein, the mumbler. I’ll be happy. Won’t be missin’ nuttin’ while I’m checkin’ the plumbin’ ‘n gettin’ ‘nother beer.
In Rock and Rol Heaven, Ya know they got a Hell of a Band!
I don't know that there will ever be bands and groups like back in the 50's and 60's, everybody had a record player and 45's were spinning everywhere you went, so many groups comin and goin, sock hops, bands on tours, when you were in the car it was playin on the AM stations, that's all we had to listen to back then, you knew every song comin on, sang along with all of em, saw the groups on American Bandstand, it sure was a different time and place than any other time.
Don’t remember it. ‘80s is ‘bout when I got sick of TV ‘n quit watchin’.
I saw Louise perform over at Billy Bob's in the early 80s(front row seats). She wore this western outfit with chaps to match. She got my attention. Somebody that good lookin', and she's a shooter.
Louise is the brunette and Erlene is a blond. Louise is an avid skeet shooter and puts on a celebrity shoot every year for charity.
Well I had ta foul it up somehow ::) Not too bad fer a 25 year old memory though. I had a thing fer that Erlene. Sounds like someone Tinity would date.
Not ta sound crass, but I always wondered if they burried Minnie with a price tag hangin off her hat.
Minnie was a close friend of Hank the Father too.
Here's a strange touchy feely sort a deal.
What was the first song ya can remember that made yer eyes leak? Happens ta the best of us. This one got me hard when I was a kid an it came ta mind taday. Still chokes me.
Goodbye to you my trusted friend
We've known each other since we were nine or ten
Together we've climbed hills and trees
Learned of love and ABC's
Skinned our hearts and skinned our knees
Goodbye my friend it's hard to die
When all the birds are singing in the sky
Now that spring is in the air
Pretty girls are everywhere
Think of me and I'll be there
We had joy we had fun we had seasons in the sun
But the hills that we climbed were just seasons out of time
Goodbye Papa please pray for me
I was the black sheep of the family
You tried to teach me right from wrong
Too much wine and too much song
Wonder how I got along
Goodbye papa it's hard to die
When all the birds are singing in the sky
Now that the spring is in the air
Little children everywhere
When you see them I'll be there
We had joy we had fun we had seasons in the sun
But the wine and the song like the seasons have all gone
We had joy we had fun we had seasons in the sun
But the wine and the song like the seasons have all gone
Goodbye Michelle my little one
You gave me love and helped me find the sun
And every time that I was down
You would always come around
And get my feet back on the ground
Goodbye Michelle it's hard to die
When all the birds are singing in the sky
Now that the spring is in the air
With the flowers everywhere
I wish that we could both be there
We had joy we had fun we had seasons in the sun
But the hills that we climbed were just seasons out of time
We had joy we had fun we had seasons in the sun
But the wine and the song like the seasons have all gone
We had joy we had fun we had seasons in the sun
But the hills that we climbed were just seasons out of time
We had joy we had fun we had seasons in the sun
But the wine and the song like the seasons have all gone

The Oldies Show we listen to on Sunday had this one, their theme was Critters in Country Music, Pirates of the Mississippi from the early 90's. Always liked it, ain't heard it in years, one mainstream forgot:
I'm standin' at the crossroads in life
And I don't know where to go
You know you've got my heart, babe
But my music's got my soul
Let me play it one more time
Tell the truth and make it right
And hope they understand me
Now I lay me down to sleep
And pray the Lord my soulto keep
If I die before I wake, feed Jake
He's been a good dog
My best friend right through it all
If I die before i wake, feed Jake
Now Broadway's like a sewer
Bums and hookers everywhere
Winos passed out onthe sidewalk
Doesn't anybody care?
Some say "He's worthless, just let him be!
"I for one would have to disagree
And so would their Mama's
Now I lay me down to sleep
And pray the Lord my soulto keep
If I die before I wake, feed Jake
He's been a good dog
My best friend right through it all
If I die before i wake, feed Jake
Now if you get an ear pierced
Some will call you gay
But if you drive a pick-up
They'll say "No, you must be straight!
"What we are and what we ain't
What we can and what we cain't
Does it really matter?
Now I lay me down to sleep
And pray the Lord my soul to keep
If I die before I wake, feed Jake
He's been a good dog
My best friend right through it all
If I die before i wake, feed Jake
Also found the original video on Youtube, you might want a hanky, the video is sad. But it does have a Lab in it.

Arbens, now there's a name I haven't seen in a while. No suggestions for you, Willie, been way from from it for quite awhile now( not as much wind as I used to have). My favorite stuff was Big Band music ( String Of Pearls was a favorite, Bobby Hackett's solo was great). i was more of a ballad type player. In the middle '70's I was first chair for a Bi-Centennial group in North Canton that did four or so concerts during the year. Classical, marches, show tunes, etc...........Buck 8) ::)

No youtube on that one, but I got ta hear it. Reminds me of Chris Rea, I love that "deserty" sound with the slide electric and harmonica. Thanks Del.
well whoever wrote it, has been to Oklahoma a time or 2, a lot of the references he uses are sure nuff places, when I lived there in Muskogee, I was'nt a quarter mile from the Shawnee bypass and that lake Eufaula is where you go to catch them big blue catfish. and a whole lot of the others I recognize. ;D
I've still got my Roy Rogers watch and my Hopalong Cassidy watch.

So what happened ta that Roy Rogers git-fiddle? Seems like somethin a guy would hang on ta.
young and stupid ............who'd thunk that stuff would be better than a 401 k
They have a collection of all the Roy Rogers items that were sold during that time in the Museum at Branson. I visited the Museum several times when it was in Victorville and a remember a small guitar among the items. I would assume that all those items made the trip from Victorville to Branson.
Yes I did, but I’m not sure what I posted that led to Mr. Mix!
It was paying for a hot water heater....
Why would ya wanna heat hot water?
Not everyone can boil water!

Major, Thank you for the link to the video. I've lost friends in the military and fellow officers as a cop, it's always tough. My heart is with the families for the 4 officers who died in Oakland.hear hear!
That song gets me hard for my own reasons. One of the ones I know what's going to happen as soon as I hear the first few bars and realize what it is. Aint ashamed to say Lil has seen my tears many times and never thought any less of me.
Bro. Sleep, That's hittin' close to home, he's our age!

When Old Top was a youth and stationed in DC, he wandered into a coffeehouse and heard a group he has been raving about ever since. I am the person of my family that finds lost stuff. I have been lookin for this group for all these 40 some years with no luck. All I had was the name: Baker Street Irrigulars. He thought they were from DC. Finally a few months ago on the net I found a listing about them and found out they were from Phylly and they had done one onreleased single. Thought I was doomed. Couple of days ago (actually while I was listening to the Chantays..) I thought what the hey, I would do a search on Utube, and sure enough there it was with even the single pix(Well the pix was the "bear fax, but it was the Fuzz label)...Ah, I turned into Sherlock Holmes for Top after all...
enjoy

Jeez, Steve Earl musta been on one a his short stints outta the pokey. Think he's got more time in than out.
The Yardbirds did a very similar version of the song Curley posted. Count 5 from Berkley sounded a lot like them too.
Don't forget about Johnnie Rodriguez!
They need to put Phil in a "nut house".
I keep getting error on the page when I try to view it.
Suppose it’s similar ta some folks claimin’ ta like Scotch.

Course I aint countin Hank the Senior.
Del, I'm sure he did. Leo, You need to take your hat off when you mention Patsy Cline.
We might otta add Bob Wills, Hank Thompson, and Ernest Tubb to that list.
Can I get an AMEN! Brothers and Sisters!
After mentionin Hank an Patsy, I won't put ma hat back on fer a week.
I remove it fer No Show Jones as well. He carried on the tradition when everyone else was tryin ta modernize the sound.
It looks like DAC is tryin' to dress like Hank Jr. They make them Charley One horse hats over in Garland, Texas on the east side of Dallas. The same outfit now owns Stetson too.
Del, That outfit is supposed to have a big outlet store over there. I never have been too excited to drive clear across Dallas just look at Hats. There's another hat outfit that has an outlet store near Stephenville, Texas. It's got an Italian name,
Leo, I drug this over here, don't 'member if we did this one yet, but it's worth lookin' at agai. The kid is gonna be remembered like his buddy Little Jimmie Dickens for his novelty songs and thats fine, but this one is serious, good country:

That place called "The Broken Spoke" in Austin is a good old-fashioned honky tonk, complete with a hardwood dancefloor. They serve up purty fair CFS. It's on S. Congress in Austin, if my memory serves me correct. You picked some good songs off of Youtube, Del, especially Ian's.
Now I got some catchin up ta do. Thanks fer all the good music Del.
You Guys need to include Junior Brown's "Surf Medley" on YouTube.
The Moose and I have sat under that tree that JJ and Gary P were talking about. We drank a little beer and there was a bunch guineas with the chickens.

It starts on a Thursday and runs through Sunday.
George was a purty fair picker in his own right. I am a big fair of guitar solos or leads. Got hooked on guitar music listening to Dwayne Eddy, Dick Dale, The Ventures, Safaris, and Chantays in the early 60s.
Heck, I look jist like him, should I send her ah pitcher?

The NNW series ran in Nashville this evenin’. The Nashville winner receives a custom, Gibson, Les Paul model guitar.
Kyle Busch won – easily. Gets the guitar ‘n proceeds to play rock star in Victory Lane. Busted it all ta hell.
Leo, That Video is older than you are! I have a strong urge to put on something polyester!

Damn. Sounds like Disney iz a bit touchy….
Ya really don’t handle single action revolvers that often do ya, Del?
Damn. Sounds like Disney iz a bit touchy….
Think about it, in the left hand the gate is up when held by the grip. it's the most natural feeling way to load one. And Bill and Sam were lefties. Had a chance to handle one of those mirror image one that guy down in Texas used to make, the movements to load and unload it seemed much more natural.
They can be loaded in the right hand, but held in the left feels more natural.
I thought I had hit the big time when Bianchi came out with the Speed Strips for the dump pouches. The 12 loop or the dump pouches were it back then.
I feel bad that I never got to go to "NeverLand"!
Hey Leo, What about the Cowsill's?
Them Ruebens are good, especially with some cole slaw and hot German potato salad.
It's hard to beat the "Ol Duck Walker" when it comes to old tyme rock and roll.

Del, What's up with Leo today? He appears to "feisty" for some reason!
Just as long as it's not drug-induced!
OT can relate to that song because he used to live and work there. That song was popular when I was in college in Oklahoma. The State of Oklahoma had a bunch of lapel pins made, "Okie". I sure wish I would have gotten one of them back when they came out in the middle 60s.
According to these Okie boys, things have changed a bit down there since Merle wrote that saong.

Dr. John, He played for our Prom in either 65 or 66 and Jim Gilmer and the Fireballs played the other year. It's been too years since then to remember which group played which year. Hey Leo, What about Dr. John, Leon Redbone, and Leon Russell in a Jam session.

Leo, John Prine didn't take any credit for the song I found out, so Steve could get all the royalties, most likey so Steve could afford treatments for his leukemia which took him in 84.
Vincent Fornier? That wouldn't suprise me, he did a whole heavy metal album a short while back when he lived next door to Ozzy.
Just relized the name of the album is an Alice Cooper song.

When you play laptop Dobro the action is set so high you can't do any fingering. She is good but I prefer setting up for a combination of slide and different chords.
Ms. Cashdollar, is known for her steele but I'm sure she plays a full circle of guitars. I agree with you on playing the slide or being able to play some cords . I didn't realize the set up on them Laptops run high like you stated. I still like the tone the cones add to the sound
That's a nice one with Roy and Clint, Del. Didn't know they'd done it......
Thanks for both Del, Cowboy Junkies is my second favorite thing from canada...I only like 2 things there.
