I always liked Ben Johnson. Seemed like a genuine person. I wasnt aware that he had died though. Too bad.

Ben, helped alot of Cowboys get started in Hollywood. He also helped alot of them get started in Rodeo over the years..Till he left us he had the annual Ben Johnson invitational Roping.

Folks,
Ben Johnson died, just short of 78 years old... had a heart attack. Best part is that he died while visiting his mother in the 'retirement community' where not only she but he himself lived. She had to be well into her 90s!!!
He was in a LOT of westerns... check out
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0424565/
In two of the John Ford "trilogy", he was Sgt. Tyree in "She Wore A Yellow Ribbon", and Trooper Tyree in "Rio Grande". Two excellent parts.
But my absolute favorite is a less known movie called "White Stallion" (made the year before he was in Shane)... In one scene, he has to rescue a Calvalry Patrol that's trapped... and he jumps on this white stallion (magnificent animal) with absolutely no tack, grabs the mane, swings up on him and gallops full out back to the fort for reinforcements. He did his own riding... galloping full out, holding onto the mane and bareback... Now THAT'S horsemanship!!!
Stoney
I admire him more than any other Western Actor...
