HBO's Deadwood 1st. Season DVD set?
« on: December 27, 2004, 06:01:47 PM »
Any input from you pards & pardettes on whether or not I should consider purchase (pre-order) of the HBO's "Deadwood" 1st. season DVD set?  I don't have access to HBO, and am debating
whether or not to use my Christmas gift certificate received to pre-order this item.  Any opinions or input would be appreciated. :-\

I really liked it. Many were very put off by all of the really foul language. It didn't bother me a bit but think they could of kept it real without the language and picked up a lot of lost audience.

I enjoyed the series but as other have said you have to sit through some pretty bad language. I don't have HBO this season so I may be looking for a DVD next year. ;)

The language of the first episode shocked me and almost put me off the series. But it has outstanding characterisation, a great plot, and I found myself caring about several of the people in it. The good points of it far outweigh the bad ones.

Two thumbs up from the lady who rarely uses foul language.

Yep, the foul language put me off the series.  It was just way too much!  The promos looked good.  Both my wife and I like westerns and thought this would be a series we'd enjoy watching together.  But we didn't make it through the first thirty minutes before we switched it off.
God bless,

:)Thanks for all the great input, folks.  The price tag's a bit high ($69.95 discounted advance order price on Amazon.com), and I'm still debating whether or not to spend that kind of money on it.  Of course, the $69.95 is still better than the original $99.95.  Decisions, decisions.

I asked the same question myself...
Decided I would wait a bit, see if the price got lowered in the future.  $70 would buy a lot of different movies.

Adios,

I started to watch it one time too. I was really turned off by the language as well but it may still be a good show.

Well I did buy it...(used on Amazon..) and I winced at the price and wince every time I think of it..but it was awfully good, and I'm glad I got it.  You guys are right about the language though, it's really out there.  Yeah I know the "f" word existed at that time but even the most profane people didn't say it THAT much....

I have been renting season 1 from netflix.com and I really enjoy it. The language is still a little much at times but it is a good show, with good characters and good stories.
