Sno-mageddon
« on: January 25, 2021, 11:55:18 AM »
Here comes the BIG storm. 6-8 inches predicted for Central Iowa with more in some spots. Even - dare I say it? - THUNDERSNOW!! This reminds me of the blizzards I saw as a kid on the farm. Of course, when you're only three feet tall every snowstorm is impressive!

Bring it on. We no longer have a need to get out everyday, so we'll just set right here and watch the snow fall.

We just recently got a couple inches here in central Texas.  First time in maybe 15 years we got that much.  Lots of kids in the neighborhood had never seen it.  My brother took a little drive through the neighborhood to see if there were any snowmen.  He counted 20!  One was wearing a mask.  :)

In eastern Nebraska it is being touted as the biggest snowstorm since 2005.

BUT, it appears we're not going to get the 14" predicted as the high estimate.
My back and heart thank you . . .

As of about 1315, here about 45 minutes west of Lincoln, it is chin-deep on a Scottish terrier.   They were not amused.

I was in the Sandhills for a blizzard in 2005 ----what an eyeopener for an aussie lowlander !!! - We started work in the morning in shirtsleeves - the first few flakes fell about noon time - by night it was going proper - and temperature was down over fifty degrees for the day - the wind howled all night - next morning out my window the drift was over top of the horseyard rails - some places in the hills proper was 20 feet drifts - cattle buried - roads closed for days - lots of stories for the grandkids from that trip!!!

The final total here was 10.5 inches. Tomorrow is supposed to be near record cold and by Friday 40 degrees, Saturday and Sunday will be in the mid 30's with rain possible. Iowa- If you don't like the weather, wait a day!

Hi John
My Dad had open heart back in 1984 at 64 and 11 months.  He never shoveled snow again or tried to start a lawn mower.  So, which is worse on us old guys, starting the snow blower, or just shoveling?  I got divorced back in 2012 so I haven't had to do either (apartment).  I'm house hunting some though.

HI
I miss Alabama, we used to brag on our meteorologist who "predicted 47 out of the last 2 snows."
