What term to use for multiple Sharps
« on: April 15, 2015, 09:51:32 AM »
Cactus plural is cacti so would plural Sharps be Sharpi? Now shrimp and sheep are both singular and plural at the same time. I vote that Sharps also is single and plural.

Pride of lions, herd of cows, flock of geese...what would be a good name to call a group of Sharps? Folks that are lucky enough to have multiple rifles should come up with a term.

"ROLLING THUNDER!" 8)

Note the deliberate use of caps!

P.S: Maybe more appropriate for multiple rolling blocks? I have four Swedes and an Argie.

How about a "ROAR" of Sharps

Not to be picky but it is not a flock of geese, it is a gaggle of geese (if on the ground) or a skein of geese if flying.

A cuddle of kittens, a piddle of puppies, a murder of crows.

One is real, the other two should be.

Multiple of Sharps is Sharps.

If one I have one Sharps, if multiple I have four dozen Sharps.  Don't argue with me, I don't make the rules..... if the language has any rules.

Had a German partner once who couldn't understand why Live Oak was pronounced to rhyme with "eye" and not "rim", but the place of your abode is where you live, rhyming with "rim".
People like me are the reason people like you have the right to bitch about people like me.

I've always just said a Sharps for singular, and Sharps Rifles for plural. Just my two cents.

I currently own "a pair of Sharps".
If I get one more I'd have "a stack of Sharps".
Unless the third is a carbine; in which case I'll still be stuck with "a-pair-and-a-half" and no stack....  ::)

(You fellow infantry re-enactors out there will get this... 8) )

With five Sharps rifles in the rack, do I have "five in hand", a "fist" of Sharps .... "? I'm working on a six pack as I dislike odd numbers.
Question is: what's next ..... ?
