High Standard

My buddy bought his first black powder revolver it’s made by High Standard. He found it in a pawn shop and called me to discuss it while he handled it. My advice was if the price was right to buy it. Overall, it seems to be in good shape and has the typical short arbor and excess barrel cylinder gap. We cleaned it up, adjusted the gap and short arbor issue, then took it out to the farm to shoot. First shot with a 6 o’clock hold hit the 10 X and continue shooting a nice group. We are happy.

Howdy Kent,

You said the the revolver was made by High Standard. Have you found any Italian proof marks on the gun? If High Standard actually made that gun, it's a rare bird. I suspect that it's actually from Italy. That being said it sounds like a good one.

There are no proof or date stamp on any part. As I have been told the receiver was made by High Standard and they bought un finished parts from Uberti and fit and finished them here. I can say that the frame and arbor is much harder than any import that I have dealt with before!

A real "Prize" indeed!!  Would well explain the "Short Arbor" syndrome as well, when using Uberti parts to complete the gun.  I never bothered to take the actual measurements to determine if the bore in the barrel lug was too deep or the arbor too short.  I just fix'd the problem.  Atz a really nice Cap Gun.  May even accept Slix nipples for Uberti.

That appears to be a deluxe boxed Leech and Rigdon.  or is that a brass frame ?
High Standard also offered a Deluxe Boxed Griswald & Gunnison and Schneider & Glassick.
These came with nice wood box (like shown) and accessories, including a pistol flask, wrench in the Gray lined compartmented box.
There was also CS belt buckle.
The guns were also offered alone, sans Box & accessories or buckle at reduced retail.
 Production began in 1974 and ran through 1976 and the production run was relativity low.
The frames were made by High Standard and the balance of the parts by Uberti. The guns were assembled and finished by High Standard.

Griswold & Gunnison
Blued finish with brass frame. Six-shot single-action. Commemorative gun came with pine presentation case and brass belt plate depicting Georgia state seal.

Leech & Rigdon
Blued finish with steel frame. Six-shot single-action. Commemorative gun came with presentation case and reproduction of Civil War belt buckle.

Schneider & Glassick
Blued finish, with steel frame. Six-shot single-action. Commemorative gun came with presentation case and modern version of Confederate "D" guard Bowie knife.

Yes it’s a steel frame with nickel plating. This one was offered by itself so there’s no way to know if it was a set with anything else.
