Joining NCOWS
« on: April 09, 2021, 03:07:40 PM »
I have not been a member of NCOWS, largely because there isn't a Posse in the State of Arizona. Then add to that I got out of CAS after 10 years of competing to start my own business. That was about the same time NCOWS got going (1995).

I have posted a couple times on this section when I thought I had something to offer but still didn't join. These days I am so busted up (disability) and old (have you folks heard of arthritis - lol) that I can't compete in anything anymore, be it CAS, NCOWS, or the practical pistol competition I shot for 30+ years.

All that being said, I ran across yet another comment on the "NCOWS needs new blood" thread and thought to myself, I should have joined them years ago, just to support the idea. So, I wrote them a check this morning and if I can drag my busted up rear to the post office it will be on the way this afternoon. (smiley face goes here)

NCOWS Deputy Marshall, John Hoker, aka Bear Tooth Billy, spent the winter of 19-20 in Tombstone.  He tried to get a posse going in that area.  There is interest in Arizona, but it is scattered all over the state.

You might reach out to him and compare notes.

Welcome to NCOWS.

One of the things I like about NCOWS is that you really do not need to compete. Just go and have fun. My knees and hips do not always want to cooperate, and sometimes I need to just sit down somewhere and catch my breath, but I'm not the only one with those issues and we ALL have fun.

I also don't live any where an NCOWS posse(wish I did) but I enjoy being a member and receiving a copy of The Shootist. This latest issue contained an article which describes some of the "fun" things a particular posse has done over the years. I like seeing what others are doing and we will use some of those ideas at our local(Quinton Mavericks) SASS club which fortunately still orients the matches to "safety and fun".

I plan on spending next winter in Tombstone and possibly do a sample
NCOWS shoot, I have heard of interest, but with no posses most won't
join. My hat's off to you for joining and a big welcome. We are a historically
based group, so with all the history there we should be a perfect fit. Anyone
else from Arizona, please contact me and I'll help to possibly get a posse going.

I'm in no hurry. I'm not going to be shooting in any matches anyway. I joined to support the idea of more authentic competitors and events.

Well Dave, a many of us are all busted up and old or both. In fact that seems like the majority anymore so if you are somehow able to make it to some shoots you would fit right in pard.

I joined NCOWS in 2006 to support them because I liked what NCOWS stood for. Lately I've been having some issues with my trigger finger. I'm able to practice shoot at a local range but uncomfortable shooting a match. If the days of shooting a match are over with for me, I will still support NCOWS in any way I can. I've attended many NCOWS National and Regional matches through the years. The NCOWS Nationals and NCOWS Midwest Regionals were always my very favorite events of the year.

I have not given up yet. I'm trying to teach myself how to shoot left handed.

I know of a couple of shooters that live in Arizona who are interested in an NCOWS posse. I think Cholla post here at a times and a reenactor named  Mike Mills. I am friends with Mike on Face Book. If you are on face book do a search for him, you'll be able to tell it's him.
Also Rocking K Saddlery moved to Arizona from Wisconsin. Frank the owner is a supporter of NCOWS.
