Cas City - Forum Support & Comments / Avatar issue?
Last post by OpenIrons - September 12, 2024, 02:56:07 PM
I've searched for other posts on this and don't see any indication that there's a recent problem.
As a new user, I've tried uploading an avatar picture as a jpeg and png, in dimensions including 100x150, 100x100, 60x60.

No error is returned when saving the profile, but the image doesn't save to the profile.

After selecting the image, the preview of the image shows fine. However, when saving the changes to the profile, the avatar image isn't updated.

I've tried modifying other fields at the same time that I try to save the avatar image, and while those new values are retained, the avatar image just never sticks.

Any clue as to what I'm doing wrong?

Thank You!

Quote from: Cap'n Redneck on September 11, 2024, 03:52:33 PMI have read that the G33/40 Mountain Carbine barrels were made tighter than the regular infantry short-rifle barrels of WW2 (Kar98k), so the two rifles would achieve the same muzzle velocity with the same ammo.  That might explain why "bore rider"-type lead bullets get stuck in the G33/40...

So  that makes me wonder if bullets for .303 Enfield (.312) might work, perhaps paper patched.  Or maybe I just need to give up on the idea of using the G33/40 (and 8mm in general) for Doughboy.

Griff, I totally agree.  Whenever I see someone say "several lustrum ago" (especially Coffinmaker  :D  ) I think to myself, it's Lustra!  But I see that Merriam-Webster has caved and now both lustrums and lustra are acceptable.  :)

And I only figured out a few days ago just what "Luddite" referred to and now I have to become familiar with "lustrum"?

Many of us have enjoyed using the archaic word "lustrum" on this forum.  As most of you know, a lustrum is a period of five years and it dates back to the 5-year census in ancient Rome.  It may have gained popularity here from its use in the John Wayne movie Rooster Cogburn.

I don't know much Latin, but "lustrum" is a singular neuter word.  When a word with the "um" ending is made plural, it should end with an "a", so more than one lustrum is "lustra", not "lustrums" (although through popular misuse it has become somewhat acceptable).  I try not be too pedantic, but I find myself wanting to correct it when I see "lustrums".  I want to say... OK, I often say out loud, "lustra"!  On the other hand, some years ago when the agency where I worked chose the Ford Taurus as a part of their fleet of vehicles, I kept referring to them collectively as "tauri", so I recognize that I'm a little strange.  ;D

I passed up shooting matches when COVID-19 hit. Then, one club I used to shoot at, that was "only" 67 miles from the house, moved further away, leaving one club which is also 67 miles. Then, it got so danged hot, that it wasn't fun until the cooler weather. But, by that time, I've developed arthritis in my right shoulder and thumb, and if I shoot shotgun, it will have to be from the hip! And not even sure about .44-40 rifle from the shoulder. My M1860 Henry, in the same caliber is too muzzle heavy for my back, and I'm probably looking to sell it. Hell gettin' old. So the ol' Trailrider may have ridden his last shooting tail.  :P  :'(  I'll still stick around the campfire...as long as my typing fingers can handle the keyboard.
Ride easy, Pards, but stay alert!
Your obedient servant,
Trailrider
