Quote from: Major 2 on December 05, 2025, 04:33:30 PMVery cool, is the P38 a veterans bring back?

I'm not sure, It has a parkerized finish on it so it could be something that was built post war. I'm trying to find a Date of manufacture list of Serial #'s so I can look it up. With the finish on it it was hard to see the marking clearly enough to if it had any Waffenampt codes.

What you may have is a war era refinish (you said Parkerized finish)
After Germany surrendered, German & Austrian Police were also disarmed.
During the occupation, the allies realized they needed
what had been local police. Under de-Nazification the US, England and France re-armed the former Local police.
Your gun may have been issued in that re-armament using captured arms.

This one is a GI bring back.

It is a BYF44- Mauser 1944, I purchased with the Certificate paperwork from Legacy-Collectibles.com about 6 years ago.

Abilene, nice find, those are great little pistols. I have a 238 as my "Always" gun that rides in my front right pocket everyday. The Galco horsehide holster is perfect for it if you ever need another holster.

Quote from: Abilene on December 05, 2025, 05:55:50 PMI was doing the paperwork at the LGS to pick up a used rifle they received for me, and I spied this used P938 9mm in the display case.  I remember when these guns came out some years ago I liked the looks and the fact that they operated like a 1911, but I never saw one and when I held it I had to have it. I took the top picture and went home to read about it, then went back and bought it.  Hopefully I can try it out after a CAS match tomorrow.

Right smart looking CCW especially with those grips.

I shot the little Sig after the match today.  I used a tree stump as a target.  One magazine of 124gr hollowpoints, and two mags of Winchester fmj.  There was one failure to extract (part way) on one of the fmj's. Had to lock the slide back before I could drop the mag to clear it.  I was shooting one handed but don't think I limp wristed?  I do need to shoot it some more.  Recoil was noticeably less than my Keltec P11.

Crap, almost anything has less felt recoil than a Keltec P11 or PF9!
Try the magazine that has the finger extension on it, Those little beasts can really squirm in your hand [especially if you have xxl paws like I do].
And I LOVE that steel frame P38!
Merry Christmas to you all!

I watched this informative video on the Colt Commando.

With the exception of the S&W M&P "Victory" photo standing in from 16:00 to video's conclusion FAUX PAS

50617 Commandos were produced.

This Colt lettered Commando in my stewardship is # 50125 This gun with 3 others were sent to the Hood Rubber Co. wartime security guards.

I'd like to find a "Victory" to add to my collection.
I do have a post war M&P S-Prefix made in 1946, the first year of S&W's return to civilian production, close but not a V- Prefix "Victory"

BTW Last photo of the example "Victory" is not mine.

:) JUST FOR GRINS AND GIGGLES  :D

Anybody ever notice just how much modern DA Revolver grips take from the Schofield "Russian" and the Colt 1878(ish)??  I always remember the Sherlock Holmes movie where the crazy lady comes out of the Balcony with a Nickel Plated 1878 in each hand, Blazing away.

Note:  Nothing to do with the actual subject matter at hand.  It's Friday morning.  It's real COLD.  It's SNOWING and I'm some bored.  So here I am, nattering away about mostly nada.  Hopefully I'm not annoying anyone, butt if I am, tough it out.  Spring will eventually sprung and I'll be less bored (maybe > maybe not).  Anyway, Happy Friday everbuddy!!

Thanks,I just found the date code on the P-38, 12/59, so it's 6 months older than I am.

A long-desired project is about to be realized
I have for quite a while wanted a Colt "FitzGerald Special"
Knowing full well an original (approx. 50 original made back in the day) was out of my remuneration scale.
So, the next best thing was Donor in which a replicant could be produced.
The quest was on to find a donor; I do have a 1945 Colt Commando and a 1919 Colt Police Positive. However, both have Provenances and are Colt Lettered, cutting those is 'No bueno'!
So, a canvas was on, months past, and last night the chase netted a FIND!
So here it is my new to me Colt Police Positive 38 Special.
My new project a "FitzGerald Special" is winging it way to my local FFL.
The final look will be this piece by Tinker
