I'm trying to find a Date of manufacture list of Serial #'s so I can look it up. With the finish on it it was hard to see the marking clearly enough to if it had any Waffenampt codes.

Steel or Alloy frame?
 perhaps occupied police issue

Posted this on the Gunaholic thread...

A friend just gifted me a Walther P-38, He's in his 80's and wants to downsize some of his guns. While I was at the FFL doing the paperwork I noticed an Uberti .45 Colt in the case,I asked about it and it was owned by a friend of mine that passed away a couple years ago and his son was selling it. I picked it up for $325.00 out the door. Pictures to follow once I get the permission slip from the peoples republic of New Yorkistan.

+.001" bullet size over bore size is used to seal, and prevent the gases from escaping around the bullet when using hard cast higher pressure loads for loads such as the 44 Magnum.

The soft lead and appropriate pressures will expand the lead bullet as it passes through the forcing cone and seal the bore. The bulk slower burning (unburned) rifle powder also helps as a "gas check"...or at least so did with early rifle powders used in the 44-40.

I was doing the paperwork at the LGS to pick up a used rifle they received for me, and I spied this used P938 9mm in the display case.  I remember when these guns came out some years ago I liked the looks and the fact that they operated like a 1911, but I never saw one and when I held it I had to have it. I took the top picture and went home to read about it, then went back and bought it.  Hopefully I can try it out after a CAS match tomorrow.

Good afternoon guys, 46 here in Osage Beach Missouri. Drove up from home today, room is really nice and spotless. Was aggravated that I had to pay $50 for the week of internet service. But it's looking out over the lake and a very pretty view. Hope you guys have a great week.

Very cool, is the P38 a veterans bring back?

I have kind of painted myself into a corner  :-\
In thinning out some of my cowboy guns having very recently sold one of Uberti 73's.
It was chambered in 44 special and that leaves me with about 500 Cowboy rounds in hand.
Fortunately, I have a Richard Type II that will chamber same
though it is marked 44 COLT.
And I have a goodly supply of Black Hills in that as well.

So, the corner dilemma is trade off some of the 44 Special
or go backwards and find something else to shoot it in. :-\

I don't plan any Cowboy match trips in the near future.
But I do have back pasture range and an old shooter grade S&W HE with some cop carry history or vintage Triple lock
would fit the bill.
A Safe queen or beauty contestant could well be outside my pay grade anymore.   :-\

It appears that my "conventional wisdom" is off base somewhat...I shoot the same model Uberti 1973, 24" octagon barrel. Brian is using a .428 lead bullet and I'm trying to work my way into a .430" lead bullet (brn 18 hardness lead), thinking that will be right for the bore size. Been using .430 lead in .44 spl (also, bore .429) for years with good results. What am I missing here?

I tried it some years ago in a pair of Uberti 51 Navies with Kirst/38LC. The bullets were from a Rapine mold that had a deep hollow base with thin skirts. I've never seen another pistol mold that had a similar hollow base. I did use a milk card wad on top of the powder and SPG was packed in the base. Seem to work OK but I never tested it extensively as the molds(I have a pair) were single cavity and it took a while to cast up enough for Cowboy Shooting. I still have the molds and now with more time on my hands, maybe I will try this out again.
