I am so sorry, I am so glad we have good ones to 300 set up on our place. 

Last time I was at a public range was in 2020, didn't feel like shooting but rode along. 

No one was being unsafe it is just that tactical hipsters are weird to watch. 

Also funny to watch GG's left-over parts 91 Mauser with 117 round noses outshoot 4 different NATO knock off clones and some guy with a tupperware stocked rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor.   

Although I suspect the rifles did not have a lot to do with it.

As for the "legally possessed... historically authentic firearm" terms go, it has been documented that Winchester made M1892 rifles with 12" and 14" barrels upon request.

Thus, I believe that by using such a rifle in a state in which a SBR is legal would have the fun factor, but it would handicap the shooter somewhat. My 12" Mare's Leg 44-40 holds six. So if I put a carbine stock on it, I would typically have to load four (maybe less, maybe more) from my body for each stage.

The storm pulled wet weather out, but some showers will be about.

Would it be that much different than needing to reload a Spencer?  And some rifles like '92's or Marlins are quick and easy to throw  reloads into the action.  I might also suspect people with these type guns might want to use them only on occasion.

And there's that.  I don't see any downsides that aren't self-inflicted.

Now on another issue, a really short barreled shotgun might have problems with knockdowns; it all depends on distance.  I recall 25 years ago a number of Arizona Rangers showed up in their army uniforms for a SASS match at Tin Star Ranch near Fredericksburg.  They all had long-barreled '97's.  I asked and was told that their home club has shotgun targets way out there.
