Hi
I bought a decent 1911 Mil-Spec and just received an M1912 Holster from WPG to use for Punitive Expedition / Wild Bunch shooting. The holster fits o.k. but I found that I have to put the hammer back with the safety on to get the gun fully in the holster, or putting it in the holster puts the hammer back for me. I commonly carry a 1911 cocked and locked anyway, but this is a competition rig so different rules apply. I think this is a problem if I shoot Wild Bunch. Is it a problem at Musters? I put the 1911 in the M1912 for two nights and I still have the same feature. If I need to solve the problem, wet the holster and let it dry with the 1911 in there?
Thanks

You got it ,
wrap the 1911 in saran wrap , then run the holster under your hot warm water tap and fill the pocket and wet the flap,
let it set a few moments and allow it to drain off.
Insert the gun and allow to set over night , I like to kind of work the holster over the gun some ( wet Form )
Pull the gun out and give it a going over with light oil , let the holster dry a day or two.
Try the fit , if its to your liking , give the holster a rub of * leather conditioner* ...Restores the leather oils washed out with warm water.

For GAF, though we generally start the skirmish runs with a chamber empty, you are allowed to holster after the application of a positive mechanical safety under the observation of the RO. IE he should see you do it, but if he does not, he will stop you and make you show him. For the last few years Bat Masterson has done this with a 1911, a Luger, and a Mauser C96. (the latter two by Bats furrin cousin, "von" Masterson.) You can watch him do this in Silver Creek Slims videos.

Hi
I'll try what the Major suggested, but it seems that I could pull back the hammer on an empty 1911, put on the safety, insert into the holster and slide a loaded magazine in.

I got reamed on the SASS forum for saying I had never been brave enough or stupid enough to try the saran wrapped gun in a wet holster trick. Seriously did not know if that was a good idea or bad. If I ever do expect I will vasoline the the gun before wrapping just to be on the safe side.

fwiw I usually just stick the gun in a dry holster for a few weeks, pulling the gun every few days and wiping down with ballistol to prevent any corrosion, seems to form just fine. Just takes longer. Also FWIW a hot sauce bottle in a slim jim holster seems to work perfect for an 1851 Navy.

Or you could use one of these: https://www.ebay.com/i/292841594728?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-213727-13078-0&mkcid=2&itemid=292841594728&targetid=4580702888518295&device=c&mktype=&googleloc=&poi=&campaignid=395665092&mkgroupid=1233652256105976&rlsatarget=pla-4580702888518295&abcId=1129776&merchantid=51291&msclkid=daf026fabfd01d6d791a79e5abe021e3

You'll get reamed on the sass wire... if you say , day is light and night is dark ... somebody will get their undies in a wad ::)
Never the less , I've spritzed the gun with Ballistol wrapped the gun in saran wrap and wet shaped MANY holsters
and I live in the rusty State of Florida...
Your call ...I'm a lighthouse ;D

Ah, I remember it like it was yesterday. I was working in Alabama and a nice 25 year old lady told me "Don't get you panties in a wad." I still laugh about that. I was at least 31 at the time and have never worn panties... I haven't wet formed yet, but may as well go for it.

;D Last time I was over there, I mentioned that I did not like the constant repetition of the 10-10-4, and was firmly informed that the 10-10-4 WAS SASS. Ah well.

That's a lot of the reason I'm not really doing their version of cowboy shooting anymore............

OK, Dang, does it at least alternate between 10 Pistol, 10 Rifle, and 4 shotgun to 10 rifle, 10 pistol and 4 shotgun?
I do like the part where we get 60 rifle and 20 pistol rounds for 80 total and shoot until none of the targets are standing. Of course there's also run out of ammo and just knock them over with your morning breath for some of us.

Yep, thunderbolts out of a clear blue sky with this outfit . . .

Sooooo ..... when you "shoot dry", can you charge them with your bayonet?

My dear Perfesser, I quote the pre-match brief: "Should you be such a miserable shot that you exhaust your ammunition prior to completing the run, you will then engage in hand to hand combat. IE you will run about yelling loudly while knocking down the remaining targets with bayonet, rifle butt, or bare hands. Be assured the rest of your squad will enjoy this even if you do not!"
A couple of years ago our esteemed chaplain had a particularly bad run, but impressed us all by finishing off with an impressive display of sneakiness and martial arts moves.

Ditto... that and close, in your lap targets , and ever present near squib loads

Or your sheath knife. It's really quite amusing for the rest of us, Right Sam Perfeye?

Entertaining, but a bit hard on the blade. Not to mention my wind.

Yep, Channel Ranald Mackenzie until it's time to channel Bruce Lee.

Hi
Back again, I really thought that the 1911 mags would fit loosely in the magazine pouches, but they don't. I have enough pouches for 4 mags, I'll try to set form one pair I guess.

Hi
Success, I can get the mags in and out of the pouch.
