M1883 Enlisted Campaign hat
« on: November 18, 2004, 09:59:28 AM »
Just recieved the above item from Dirty Billys hats of Gettysburg.  Delivery took 6 weeks.  Its a superior piece, historicaly accurate, well worth the money asked.  My new favorite.  Even goes well with my DCUs out here in Saudi, but the command won't let me wear it, dadblast it!  No sense of style in the modern military. . .

Howdy Sarge,

Keep your head down over there.. some bad business going on!
Glad to hear that Dirty Billy is providng good service.  I've looked at some of their hats before, but have read conflicting reports about their service.

Thanks for taking care of us over there..
Adios,

Yeppur Slim, thats it, except the enlisted version has a narrower ribbon, a star vent, and triple stitching around the brim instead of the binding.

I know this section topic is about the M1883 Enlisted Campaign Hat.  But, I would like to ask about the M1883 Officer's Campaign Hat.
What was the correct style of 1883 Campaign Hat worn by Army Officers in the field during the Geronimo campaign of 1886?  How dark or light was the color? Did it have bound brims or did they wear the enlisted version with the rows of stitching?  What type of vents did it have?  Were linings worn inside the crowns?  Were officer's hat cords worn on them?  Most of all, who are the suppliers that make the correct reproductions of it?
Your input is appreciated. Thanks.

Go here:  http://www.dirtybillyshats.com/    I get a lot of uniform items from several suppliers, but if I want a hat done right, done accurate, Dirty Billys is the place to go.  He's cantankerous, and you'll wait for it, but it will be done right.
