After lurking on the NCOWS and historical forums and checking the back pages, I couldn't put it off any longer and I joined today. I finished up my MA at the University of Idaho this past spring, so I have a love of all things history, but particularly western and military. I'm working on a couple of personas as well, and have some components put together. Late 1880's (Probably 1888-9) cowboy, born in Arkansas. I'm also working on US Army officer (already a member of the GAF), and toying with the idea of Texas Ranger. My era will probably be moved around a bit too, I was lacking a shotgun aside from borrowing my dad's hammerless s x s, and I happened to pick up a 1887 lever at Cabela's for a steal on Tuesday, so that's the limiting factor on that for right now. I'd love to pick up a 26 inch hammer double from Cimarron, and that'd move me back a few years. I've got a Uberti 1873, 1876, and a pair of Schofields (with 1875 Remingtons as backups) as well as that shotgun as my main go to guns for SASS. I've picked up "I See by Your Outfit," "Cowboys & Trappings of the Old West," "Packing Iron," "The Texas Rangers: Wearing the Cinco Peso, 1821-1900," and "Indian War Veterans: Memories of Army Life and Campaigns in the West, 1864-1898," just to name a few. Always best to get it right the first time rather than spending money to fix mistakes! It's the geek in me but I love research, what can I say. I'll be sure to post pictures of my progress and kit, and I aspire to the 'Master Level' from Marlan Ingram's articles. Overall it's been a lot of fun so far, and I haven't even been a member. I look forward to diving in, attending matches, and meeting new friends!
Regards,
Peachey
