Hi Guys,

Thinking of buying a Remington New Model 1858 8 inch barrel repo cap n ball..Maybe later at some point get a cartridge cylinder for it...But I want to know which manufacture has the model that will load conical lead bullets without any modification to it like the originals?

thanks Guys

Currently none ....sorry

Uberti & Pietta need clearance .... I'm not sure about Pedersoli  but I trust not ( I think Uberti supplies their frame )

But if you are going to add a conversion cyl. ( Kirst ? )  you will be grinding on the frame anyway  :-\

It's not free, we are getting a drop in the bucket as to what has to be paid back.

But on the original subject I happen to have a brand new Pietta 1858 still in the box I'll sell if anyone else wants one PM me. Was purchased a while back for a project I decided not to do.

 :) Hi Bob  ;)

Well, I have to go back to the first answer by Major 2.  Unfortunately . . . No.  None of the Replicants are made with the clearance to load Conicals.  I don't know why not.  It would have been easy enough to do when setting up the machinery.  Most of us Cap Gun Crazies load Round Ball, or the EPP UG bullets.  Those load without having to grind away a bunch of Barrel Lug.

Clearanceing the Barrel Lug is not all that difficult to do.  Carefully done and refinished it's hard to tell the difference.

The Colt 2nd. & 3rd. generation revolvers are basically Uberti's with Colt factory stamps on them, so they will need some "Dremel-work" in order to load conicals.

The Uberti 3rd. Model Dragoon will load the LEE conicals without modification, but then again, that's pretty far from the Remington you originally were contemplating...?
And I have not had the chance to try the Dragoon with the "Johnson & Dow" conicals.

My Colt 2nd Generation 3rd Model Dragoon will load conicals made from the Colt 2nd Generation Dragoon .44 caliber mold. I don't know if these are the exact same size as Mark Hubbs Dragoon bullets but they look very similar. The Colt 2nd Gen conical I just looked at weighed out at 238 grains.
