I realize this is a late reply: I go by the old machinist rule -- it it rotates, oil it; if it slides, grease it. I use lithium grease on the frame and slide rails, the locking lugs, the inside of the barrel bushing, and where the slide rides over the disconnect.
JMB originally designed the 1911 to be lubed with whale oil, which is very thick.
