Buffalo Rifle
« on: July 09, 2019, 08:24:10 AM »
Has anyone tried the newish Shooter's World Buffalo Rifle powder in their 76? any in anything? Sposed to be a reduced load type powder near equivalent of 5744. I'm going to try a few rounds shortly. I emailed the website about loads for the 45-75 but just got referred to the online chart I had already read with no load data for the 45-75. So I'll try a low end 5744 load to start with. The stuff meters well, I like that.

King Medallion haven't heard of the product till I read your post.  Let us know how it turns out.

My 76 is in the shop.  After the abortive test with the brass from last company I managed to bugger the screw for the cartridge spring.  Ordered a new one but took it to my gunsmith as I didn't think I could get it loose.  Hopefully back soon.  Strange how ya miss the thing when it ain't here!!

Keep us posted, this new powder looks interesting.

P.B.

Out with Thumper today, nice morning, upper 70's, no wind. Tried 5 different loads today, 5 shots each at 50 yards. I had 10 each made up, the other 5 for 100 yards, but most of my quarry/range is still under water.
Anyhoo, the report on the new Buffalo Rifle powder is that it shoots nice, is fairly clean burning, doesn't bash the elderly shoulder. Worth working with some more. Someday I may have to invest in one of those speed testing thingy's.

It got cut off when I cropped the pic, but the charge is 24.0 grs. This is supposed to be an equivalent powder to 5744. Very few leftover grains of powder.
