Title: Stu Kettle's Apple Pie Recipe
Post by: Niederlander on December 10, 2021, 03:55:35 PM
Gentlemen,   With Christmas approaching, I thought I'd share the late Stu Kettle's recipe for his "Apple Pie".  I and many others can attest to how good it is.

Ingredients:

1/2 Gallon Apple Juice
1/2 Gallon Apple Cider
3/4 Cup White Sugar
1 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
4 Cinnamon Sticks
1/2 Liter Everclear

"Bring all ingredients except the alcohol to a boil in a large pot.  Let cool to room temperature, then stir in the alcohol and pour in jars.  Some people like to leave a cinnamon stick in the jar, but I don't want the cinnamon to get stronger with time."

I personally tame this stuff down by using vodka instead of Everclear.  (Helps if you plan to stand up after drinking it!)

Enjoy!

Yes, but did Mags Bennett give you the recipe for her inside of the (apple pie) glass (Well, Masson Jar) coating from Justified?

It is prudent to show due respect anything with the ingredient "Everclear", and enjoy in moderation! A Mason jar of  Apple Pie is always a desirable item on the door prize table.

Yep, that's why I tame it down with vodka!

We did nearly same recipe with rum. (151 when we were young).  We also had a buttered rum recipe that tasted like the life savers candy but punched like an 18 lber cannon.    We drank the buttered rum like pirates and we all had a bad night.  Next morning we ritually burnt it.   Wish i had kept it now that i understand it is to be sipped in moderation.

Mags was the best Villian. Boyd doesnt really fit that description because they dug coal

I'm not nor ever was a drinking man, there was a time I'd sample something interesting
But just sample, never did I imbibe beyond a taste.

That said I recall, some Apricot Moonshine  :o   It was my understanding a washed bottle was placed over the Apricot bud and the fruit was allowed to mature on the tree and in the bottle.
When ripe, the Moonshine was added.....  :-\

I recall it was some kinda HIGH TEST STUFF !  just a taste was sufficient for the vivid memory

Had to dig out the old receipt book.... the Barking Spider's receipt for Apple Pie called for 1/2 cup brown sugar, 6 cinnamin candies ("wrappers removed"), 1qt apple juice, 1 qt apple cider, and 1 fifth +1 pint Everclear.  Pour ingredients in a 1 gallon A&W rootbeer jug, shake to mix, age til the candies dissolve.

In self defense, one of the Missouri boys came up with "Apple Bourbon": apple brandy aged in a Jack Daniels keg.  Years later I realized how much brandy he must have made.

As I recall the Buttered Rum recipe was similar to the recipe here, but no white sugar, same total amount but all brown.   Also had ground cloves, ground cinnamon instead of stick, and orange zest.   Heated all that to boiling, and at same time, melt salted butter.   pour the liquid in a cup, add the rum to taste, and pour over the hot melted butter and stir.    One of these apres ski, or just on a cold winters night would be great.   4 guys pouring through a half gallon of rum with this is A REALLY BAD IDEA, but in our defense we were 20 and bad ideas were our bread and butter.   Like the meme says, wisdom comes from experience and experience comes from bad ideas.

Unfortunately here in Iowa thanks to a bunch of stupid college kids we cannot get the good stuff anymore only 150 proof now.

Howdy all,
I just finished two batches of Stu's Apple Pie.  Makin' not Drinkin'.  I made one with Everclear and the other with 151 Rum.  Both were less expensive than the store brand 80 proof Vodka I bought.  Crest was almost out of Cinnamon Sticks so I used 1.5 tablespoons of Cinnamon for the Everclear Batch and 3 sticks for the Rum Batch.  Personally, if you use 151 Rum, use ground Cinnamon, the Rum flavor over powers the Cinnamon and Apple Flavors.
