Hodgdon Longshot powder
« on: January 12, 2022, 01:46:39 PM »
I have a lot of Hodgdon Longshot powder  and would like to know if anyone has any light load data for 12g shotgun loads. Shooting CASS.  I have a lot of WinchesterAA hulls and Federal Topgun hulls. 2 3/4 size.

Hoppy, I think you are out of luck with that powder.  From Hodgdon:

"This spherical powder is a versatile shotshell propellant for heavy field loads, providing true magnum velocities with superb patterns."

and:

"LONGSHOT is the high velocity pistol choice in 38 Super, 40 S&W, and 357 SIG at lower-than-usual operating pressures."

Any CAS ammo with this powder will be very poor performance and lots of unburned powder.  Your best bet would be to sell or trade it.  Sorry!

I should add: In My Opinion.  I've never tried it (and wouldn't).

As I answered on facebook longshot isn't a light load powder, it is a magnum powder.  You need a faster burning powder for light loads.  Trade some of your longshot to someone for some red dot, clays, extra lite, american select or other faster burning powders.
