Division of Indiana August 21, 2021 Muster Report
« on: August 26, 2021, 03:13:21 PM »
Attention Everyone,

The Division of Indiana of the GAF held their second Muster of 2021 on August 21. It was a blistering day in the 90’s with extremely hight humidity. Kind of like it was when we liberated Cuba. Given these conditions I am thankful that everyone kept a smile on their faces and enjoyed themselves while they were covered in sweat. This was scheduled to be our third Muster of this year, but when the floods came in June and almost destroyed the range, it became or second shoot. We were blessed to have Chuch Luetkemeyer, Sgt Drydock, in attendance again. Of course he had to navigate the Indiana Department of Transportation detours, sometimes it’s like navigating a mine field. He survived the trauma and even made it back home safely too. We had two new shooters show up this Muster as well. One being our first female who did a commendable job. Hopefully there will be more each time we hold one.

We had made plans for the extreme heat and there was a cooler of iced down water that followed us around to each skirmish. We were thankful for the shade of the trees and benches to sit on while waiting our turn to shoot the enemy. Our idea is to let the other guy die for his country and us to come back in celebration refreshed and well watered. We are still learning how to hold better and better musters each time. Adjustments are being made and problems addressed.

A special thanks to my wife, Jackie Liebrandt aka Miss Sunshine, for retrieving an ammo belt with holster and also getting some food for the soldiers to eat! Due to this she was not available to do much videoing of the skirmishes as was planned.

Skirmish #1 was an Urban battle. In the first rifle post you addressed 5 rifle targets with 4 being common to each position and one specific to that position. You moved laterally to the right and addressed the 4 common targets again from behind a wooden barrel. You continued moving laterally to the right and climbed the platform to address another specific rifle target and the 4 common ones. Upon completing the rifle shots a running man on your right ran down a cable away from the shooter who had to pull his pistol and apply 3 rounds of lead on the coward.

Skirmish #2 was an outhouse skirmish. You began in the outhouse and exited to a point where you addressed a specific target. After hitting it you were then able to more and address the other 5 pistol targets making your way to a wooden horse where your rifle was staged. Upon retrieving your rifle there were 4 rifle targets up on the hill which needed to be hit. You moved laterally to the left which exposed another target across the ravine. You continued moving laterally left which then exposed another two targets hidden up the ravine.

Skirmish #3 was a relief skirmish. You began by throwing a stick of dynamite towards a campfire of enemy combatants. You drew your pistol from the holster and began shooting the 4 enemy combatants scattering from the the explosion. You continued moving laterally to the right which exposed another 2 combatants hiding behind a wood pile and tree. You have made it safely to your wooden horse and retried your rifle. Another enemy soldier appeared on your right which you disposed of with either your bayonet, sword, or favorite pig-sticker. Upon relinquishing that individual to the pearly gates, you proceeded forward addressing targets on the right and lefts. Some were hiding quite nicely in the dry creek bottom. Upon completing your run you sat down at a table and telegraphed to the rest of the regiment that you have taken care of the enemy and do not r=need replacements.

The Muster Champion was Michael Fellows aka Snake Oil who finished first in Military Skirmish, Precision Military Rifle, and in Uniform. Congratulations Michael!

I asked Chuck for any advice and constructive and even took note on the scriticism before he left for home. I received a fair amount of both. It doesn’t bother me to get the criticism if it is given with due concern to make things better and safer. I also received a fair amount of compliments and well done too. That is what we are striving to do, have good and fun shoot and be safe.

We are scheduling our 3rd Muster for the Division of Indiana on October 2nd. Registration will begin at 9;00 AM and shooting to begin immediately afterwards. It will have 3 skirmishes and Rifle Precision Match. We are also opening it up to be an Expansion Era Muster (EEM). Hoping this will encourage some other to come who don’t fit in the Victorian Era. If you plan to attend and shoot as EEM, then be sure to check out the EEM approved weapons on the link provided.

Remember ammo is to be lead only in pistol and lead round can have with gas checks in rifle. NO jacketed ammo is allowed to shot or our range under any circumstances. You damage a target by using unapproved ammo, you buy a replacement one.

Take care and God bless!

One in Christ,
Dewayne Liebrandt

Great runs!  A couple recordings of the last skirmish...
Our youngest and only female competitor did not have her best run, but it was recorded...

Snake oils last run was not problem free either...

Great time to be in the woods!

This is a well run, fun match that I have greatly enjoyed.  Worth traveling for.

Snake Oil will be dang fast once he loads his rounds a little longer.
Civilize them with a Krag . . .
