Title: Wild Bunch or More The Barracks
Post by: Major 2 on September 18, 2021, 08:48:35 AM
I'm not sure if this is of interest to Wild Bunch or more to The Barracks

I had never seen these or knew they existed, but found it quite interesting
1911 Navy Pistol Racks , they are two sided ( holds 6  1911's )
this particular sold for $195 on the COLT  Forum.

So I did a little search, and found 3 more listed on eBay at   :o  some big dollars .

 :)  Well Now  ;)

Now that we (some of us) have seen them, a rather simple design easily duplicated.

I do wonder where they have been hiding all these years though.

Lets Play Safe Out There

I spent 20 years in the navy. Every ship had these. .45s were stored in them in the ships armory.

I have seen photos of several , most have

         PISTOL RACK
45 CAL. COLT AUTO PISTOL
      MODEL 1911-A1
    ORD. DR. NO. 42807
MFG. at NAVY YARD, PHILA. PA

Though I have seen one with cut figures (dated 7-1944) and one with no stamp ...

I don't know how many may have survived, but I saw one sold for $195 and two others listed @ $425 & $495 on eBay.
And still another with a Buy Now $875.00   :o
Very cool item and neat conversation piece wall hanger , but grasping at stratospheric pricing  ::) I imagine.

I recall seeing them in Navy base armories back in the 80s.  If I had to guess I will bet they continued to use them in the armories when the 1911s were replaced with M9s in the mid to lte 80s. Probably still there.

Nice work Major!

I thought about building one too, but them I realized that I would need 4 more to fill it up and that it would be a hard sell to CinCHome

My version is a wall hanger so just one sided...
Though I have the 3 1911's , what I have in this is 3 Air soft 1911's that were $18 w/ free shipping on Amazon.

I guess when I stop and think about it I do have a 3rd 1911, it's just that it is a "Modern" one (stainless, Beavertail, colored nehanced grip scales, ect.) It's just at my son's house right now.

I have a Cimarron high polish, a Springfield Armory Mil-Spec, and a 1945 Ithaca.

Edit: since I had written this, I added a Springfield EMP - Enhanced Micro Pistol (Officers Sized Frame).
It was designed around the 9mm and does not have inherent 45acp compact frame issues.
