What is funny is the wood sold as Philippine Mahogany is not real mahogany, real mahogany grows in South America and harvest is very restricted. It's a similar looking but softer wood, the Philippine prefix being required by the FTC.

But if they called it Meranti no one thinks is cool.  Like Chilian Sea Bass, if they call it toothfish no one wants it.  ;D

In the late 60's into the mid-70's Remington put true SA Mahogany on the Wingmaster (Deluxe) 870's and 1100 LT (small gauge)

This is my 28 gauge 870 I bought myself for Christmas in 1977.  Note the very deep red color of the wood. Very little is harvested anymore and must be certified as legal.

Many years ago, while beach combing, my dad found a 12' plank of Philippine Mahogany.
It was roughhewn probably a cribbing plank used to support heavy objects in shipment on deck,
floated ashore off some sort of a ship.
We dressed it with an industrial shop planer, and yielded
12' X 12" x 4" dressed.
We made nice 5-foot fireplace mantle with it.
the remaining 7' was in my old garage and lost to the 2012 fire  :(

Good evening folks, great day at church today. This afternoon was our kid's Christmas program and it went really well. Five year old Jack has three little girls wanting to be his girlfriend. The drama will unfold...
Thankfully LadyC is much improved, still has to have a CT scan tomorrow on her colon to make sure no bleeding or ulcers.
I'll be working the next three days and then the days following, so it will be a full week.

Glad to hear it! Enjoyed your story, well maybe not "enjoyed" it given what happened, but it was well written and a good message.

Evening all.

A true toad choker today. 4" of rain as of right now (2230). Was just a drizzle while me and the Mrs were at the barn taking care of critters. Just wet enough to be soaked by the end, but nothing crazy. Then around 1230, I started looking around for gopher wood to build that ark. My backyard had 6" standing water, and I just about had to get the kayak to go get the mail across the parking lot. Half my garage flooded (fortunately the half that only had spare tires and some garden tools, and somehow the kitchen window sprung a leak. Not sure how that works, but there's a 5 gallon bucket on the counter taking care of that.

Local news story on it.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to finish wringing out my socks.

Morning y'all.
Coffee and tea are hot.

Nice birthday party last night.
Micah is bringing the Suburban to verk at 16:30 so we can rotate the tires in the verk garage.

'Tie 23 and overcast. Dusting overnight. "Not as cold. Mostly cloudy. Light snow and freezing drizzle likely in the morning  then a chance of freezing drizzle and drizzle in the afternoon. Snow accumulation up to 1 inch. Minor icing possible. Highs in the middle 30s. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation 70 percent."

Done that a lot lately.  Finally had the combination of time and weather Saturday to take the kids out and pick a Christmas tree.  We always get a cedar tree from my mom's pasture.  Didn't take us long to find a good one this time either.

12-hour days were the norm on film shoots & Industrials in my working days.
Industrials were often even longer, many times 6AM to Midnight.
When I retired and began part time at the Veteran Museum-2 days a week was 10 AM to 6 PM.
When it was decided to try 10 AM to 10 PM, I had decided I was done with 12-hour days.

Morning all.

Rain somewhat abated, only 3/4" overnight. Dont need the kayak to take the trash out anymore. Will probably go invest in a newer pair of galoshes here in a little while though. Preferably a pair without leaks.

Tomorrow I'll likely go up to my parent's to help with clean up. Seems they had a couple trees come down in the storm, and a Culvert clog. I'd be there today, but the road is closed by a mudslide, and I don't think my sedan can make it over "the back way." I take that route regularly in the summer, but I spent enough time getting myself unstuck in a 4x4 on that road in past winters to k ow better.

Went to the farm yesterday with Matt, he got a good deal on one of the Kimber compacts in 9mm he bought for a good price and wanted to run rounds through it before actually carrying it.

Well, he handed it to me with the slide open and a fresh mag. Been a long time and I forgot John Moses invented a contraption that bites and without thinking I gave it my favored single action grip.  After I got the bleeding stopped, I decided if I really needed one it would be fine.  Of course, that's after I did it right.

My normal 2 handed grip leaves the left thump in perfect alignment to cock the hammer and not change the grip.  Or take a chunk out with moving parts.  ;D

But I'm one of a sacred few who still carry a SA for carry and don't laugh it will disappear into the right pocket of a pair of bibs or the CAS type frontier pants.  ;)

If I lived elsewhere, I might want something different more chance of me having to shoot a Mt lion than a person around here, coyotes being the most likely since they will sometimes come after a dog even with a person. (Remember Texas governor incident a few years ago) The mayor and I were talking about it one time and he said if it happens in town to not shoot at anyone's house and call the Sherrif afterward, so everyone knows what is going on.
