Sanctioned AZSA match will be held Sunday afternoon and Monday. Entry fees for the GM will get you registered for both matches. See the AZSA thread:  http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,50874.new.html#new

Jerry, what arms and accourterments would be appropriate for an AZSA match? Should have the time, not sure if I have the right weaponry. Be interested in watching if nothing else. Thanks, Al.

Not sure but dang you'd think a 30-30 and a model 10 Smith & Wesson would work, get ya a pair of lace up work boots, a pair of bibs and a flannel shirt and be a moonshiner.  (OK I think this came up in one of our camp fire sessions one time.)

I think the guys in Colorado only allow "pistol" calibers in their main match, due to close range steel targets, but Pitspitr can set it up different I suppose. The usual thing seems to be a Thompson and a 1911, but they say anything pre-1949. There was some talk about M-1 Carbines, but I don't know if anyone has been able to get one to function within our velocity limitations.

Del's idea is a good one, just bring something a farmer from the 1930s might have. While it wouldn't be very competitive, due to six shot capacity, I have a Marlin pump in 25-20 that seems to be something that might have been leaning behind the door of some farmhouse in the thirties. And a S&W 32-20 that I can't use in any other CAS type shooting that I have done.....

Pony Express and Delmonico gave such good answers that I don't know if I can really add anything...but I'll try

AZSA started as a bunch of IPSC shooters that had some Thompsons at home and came up with a way to play with them, similarly to the SASS started. I know you have guns that will work. The Thompson and the 1911 are the most used firearms, but I've seen Sumi's (sp?), bren's and lots of lever guns. My striker uses his '73, his Schofield and his pump Marlin 19 though he'd be better off using my 1911 or my S&W Model 5. At Byers you have to shoot pistol caliber rifles but can use jacketed bullets and no full auto. Some places allow full auto. (I will but only if you let me put a few rounds through it  ;) :o ;D ) The reason I waited so long to announce the match was that I wanted to make sure it was ok with the powers that be if I didn't run it exactly the way the matches I've attended at Byers were ran. I'm planning on using mostly steel targets with a few cardboard IPSC targets thrown in.

As far as clothes go I wear a pair of bibs, a Henley or a chambray shirt and a beat up old felt hat or a newsboy cap. I've seen everything from cowboy clothes to a 1930's State Patrol to double breasted, pinstriped suits with fedora's Think The Untouchables, Bonnie & Clyde, Legend's of the Fall or You Know My Name.

Don't be afraid to visit the Zoot Shooters forum and ask questions. http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/board,108.0.html They're a friendly bunch. There's a thread called "For New AZSA Zoot Shooters" which contains the answers to questions I asked before I attended my first match. http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,44871.0.html I was one of the earliest members (#16L) but had never been able to attend a match until 2 years ago.

I'll have to get a new pair if overalls - I bought a pair for last years planned event, but I've lost about 100 lbs since then.

I have a 1911 & plan to take Jerry up on his offer to shoot his Thompson, but if it's still smoking from the guy before me my '92 will do fine.

Thanks guys, looks like I'll throw a few more irons in the truck before I head out. This might even be an excuse to pick up a new toy(or two). See ya'll in June. On a side note, confirmed one more besides Tom and I and we're working on three others to bring with us. Al.

Pitspitr, will you be allowing rifle calibers?(loaded down appropriately of course)?

Well it wouldn't make much sense to allow them for the GAF portion of the weekend but not the AZSA part. ::) So, yes, provided they meet the same specs as for GAF ei. lead bullets weighing less than 405 grs and moving at less than 1400 fps

If I had bullets brass and dies the 1905 Win 35 SL I have in the safe might be just the rifle for the AZSA match.  Don't have a period DA revolver but do have a 1911 not sure if that is legal or not.  Would probably help to have a multiple mags for the 1905 win or a really long one.

Given all that is already scheduled for 2014 as much as I would like to, don't see myself making the trip, could always hit the lotto and retire early but...

As long as the 1911 isn't all "tricked out" with things like a funnel magazine well skeletonized trigger or extended beavertails. It would be legal in AZSA AND the Era of Expansion match.

Given all that is already scheduled for 2014 as much as I would like to, don't see myself making the trip,
I'm Sorry to hear that.  :'( Don't rule it out yet though, something might come up so that you can. If not then next year...

I just printed a copy of the registration form but probably won't send it till spring.  Does the match fee include a banquet ticket for the shooter?

Will Del be serving lunch on Sunday?  That would make 9 meals if I show up for supper on Thursday (& I plan to) & stay till Sunday afternoon (& I plan to).
