SEMI RETIRED ROSSI COACHGUN - PICS ADDED
« on: August 17, 2004, 03:51:42 PM »
Yesterday, I picked up a TTN 1878 Colt SxS that my favorite toy store ordered for me. The stocks are black walnut & match perfectly with a very nice grain. The wood to metal fit is excellent. The blueing is almost a matte black instead of the high lustre blue on my Rossi. But I understand that TTN will soon be importing an upgraded model with high polished blue barrel, & case hardened receiver & hammers.

The main springs are heavy as is the action (lever spring) & the bead front sight is small. But TTN includes a larger bead & lighter springs with the gun. With the help of a couple web pards I replaced the springs & polished the hinge area. The gun breaks open easily & the hammers are close together & I can cock both at the same time with my thumb or the side of my hand. The gun cost me a total of $416.76 (sales tax included).  :)

Now if this gun shoots as good as others have claimed, my Rossi Coachgun will be semi retired. I've been shooting it in CAS for 9 years & it has never let me down. I think it deserves a rest.

My poor Rossi has been in service for about 15 years.  Picked it up at my first CAS shoot (had to borrow a shotgun to shoot it).  I won’t even say what I stole it for (in the box, less than a box of shells through it).  Weedy would never forgive me!
Since we’ve moved on to black powder it gets a nice bath every month, and I think it would have a heart attack or something, if I tried to retire it.
Besides it might think I said, “fire” and as Ching said in McLintock, “You fire me, I kill myself”.   I don’t want to lose an old friend.

Now Col. I though you weren't supposed to be a stumbling block for your brother.  I love SxS's with hammers and now your tempting me to covet my neighbors shotgun. :o ;D ;)

Stoney (what's got a Rossi and REALLY want one of them TTN's) Pete

If it can't be nice, eaten, make money, create comfort or provide real pleasure.........kill it or trade it in on new one!

Stoney the 1878 is a pretty nice SxS. Now don't stumble going in or out of your favorite toy store. :) ;) :D
