Bridges of Madison County
« on: September 05, 2022, 05:44:49 PM »
Oct 7-8; Bridges of Madison County annual event. Already there with a Civil War group. Birth place John Wayne. See an opportunity to bring period Cowboys. PHIG has lost our range, looking to expand. We can setup camp & displays on museum grounds, or show up for 1 day only. Scheduled a shootout at Mercantile on museum grounds at 3:00 PM.

Sounds very interesting. Can you provide more details? We are not too far from Winterset, and we've visited some of the covered bridges as well as the John Wayne museum, but I am not aware of any other museum.

It's funny, we just happened to watch the movie again the other evening and thought it would be a neat place to visit. They tore down all of the old covered bridges in our area back in the 80's before they could be saved.

Address of museum: 815 S 2nd Ave, Winterset IA.
We can setup period camps on museum grounds starting Friday afternoon.
Cowboys will be new to this event & is an intro to the museum & civil war group.
I suggested, I setup at the east end of civil war group, displaying some of the range of CSA uniforms. Suggested cowboys in line east of me.
Will check to see if we can dig a fire pit.
Opportunity is also there for some cowboys to fall in for civil war skirmish.
More to follow.

Fire pit allowed as long as we can cover up.
I am there as a Civil War re-enactmentor,I see the potential here!
I am crossing a line between both groups, & accept the consequences!

Will carry blanks 5 in 1, & 38.
I will act as safety officer, inspect guns & issue blanks.
Please, don’t bring any live ammo.

All; I see this event as an introduction to true cowboy in John Wayne’s birth place. My preference, true representation.
This year, limited to 1 shootout on museum grounds, & anyone wanting to walk around town dressed cowboy, healed not loaded.
Where it goes from here, don’t know!
Possible shoot outs at downtown or other locations?
I se a larger potential here!
