Title: Trackdown (Robert Culp) Schofield
Post by: Doug.38PR on November 13, 2016, 09:19:20 PM
I just got down to Houston tonight and dad showed me a TV series that MeTV has started showing called Trackdown with Robert Culp playing a Texas Ranger.
He was stunned the other night and showed me that the Ranger in the series (from the 1950s) carries and uses a Model 3 Schofield.  Very impressive and unusual for a western, especially a western back then and on TV.

I always figured that producers of westerns from that era wanted their heroes to use unique "gimmick" guns.  In fact, "Wanted Dead or Alive", with Josh Randall's "Mare's/Mair's Leg/Laig" (I've seen it written different ways) is a spinoff of "Trackdown".  I actually appreciate the Smith and Wesson more, though.

I agree. How else could you explain Johnny Ringo's LeMat conversion? Gimmick all the way around.

Welcome to Houston, Doug!

Nice to be back for a visit.  I was born and raised here spending the first 30 years of my life.  Moved away 9 years ago.   Seems like it spreads out another 5 miles, gets torn down and rebuilt and traffic gets worse every 3 or 4 months when I return to visit.  I was more than pleased to find Grand Parkway 99 open so I can go around Houston and skip traffic both ways to get to the west side.

I gather you live in Houston.  Since you're a member here, may I assume you frequent Collectors Firearms at Richmond and Fondren?

Randall carries 45-70 cartridges in his belt.  IF that were actually a cut down 1886 (which it's not) Lever action, then he could only get like two shots in the tube.  Kind of worthless.

Even as a .44-40 why would you want to make a rifle into a lever action pistol?

Looks cool, but looked better with Arnold using a Shotgun in Terminator 2

The Schofield is much better because it is practical and more realistic.  (and quite advantageous as unloading and reloading is a bit faster)
