Weather turned downward overnight!
We received a foot and a half of snow. I had been using the propane weed burner around the garden fencing to get rid of weeds sprouting up between the two layers of wire fencing just yesterday . . .Glad I hadn't put it away. It came in handy to melt off that 20" of snow on the driveway.

Fortunately the daughter was able to get her car out and drive to work through that two foot of snow.

And here the daffodils were all pretty in bloom along the south of the house. Now they're all crushed under that three feet of snow.

But that's how the weather goes here in Nebraska. One day it's in the mid-70's and the next there's 4 foot of snow on the ground, like today.

Morning all.

35 and clear as of 7am in Missoula. Supposed to get up to 50. Yesterday we had a couple inches of snow, so I’m not sure if I believe that.

So far this week,  I’ve clocked 34 hours, with another 16 coming in at least. Will be a decent paycheck.

And interesting happening at work yesterday. I was sitting on a bench outside of a truck stop eating lunch, and was approached by a very rotund fellow. Our conversation went like this:

Him: do you have a CDL

Me: yes, why?

Him: so you think you’re better than me.

Me, always ready to crack wise: yes, next question.

Him: well I’ve been an over the road driver for 4 years. And I’m a veteran.

Me: I am also a veteran.

At this point he left and then laid on his air horn when he drove past me. I’m not really sure what to make of this interaction, but it was entertaining in the very least.

I'd of told him I'm better than him because I don't go around asking stupid questions. ::)

Getting ready to run errands, the minority of them our errands, what ever, SIL in nursing home needs stuff, Rita's friends daughter has to go get shit out of totaled car, BIL needs groceries, he is not a shopper, fine, we have to go to get teenager supplies.   I need cashews but would survive, oh get a case of this Vitamin drink on sale at Cosco for niece.  No big deal, they all have done stuff for us when we need it.   Wife has been on the phone, getting dressed now, decided to have another cup.   Oh good her phone is ringing again. ;D

My first thought:

"Well my Fine fellow...
I never met you before, and so I don't know you at all.
How could I ossibly have any opinion of you?"

My second thought:
"And you don't know me from Adam....
For all you know I am a serial killer looking for my next new friend..."

I guess I'm goin' to hell after all.

We buy all of our meats, fish and produce from a local Amish Market. We especially like their steaks, country ribs, Salmon and Cod, Their produce is always fresh. It's only a 1/2 drive and we save quite a bit of money shopping there. It reminds me of the old fashioned markets my parents used to shop at in the 40's and 50's.

Morning all, and thanks for the coffee. I need it today.

Weather is 35 and sunny, and expected to run up to 70. We’ll see if it makes it.

Plans for today include setting up the printer so I can print my temporary license plates and the form for the metal plates. I will say, it is much cheaper here than in California. Ca wanted $280/yr for my 1995 Ford. In MT the temps were $21, and my permanent plates will be $87.

Just got back from the store and could not find a roll of Canadian Bacon for my Eggs Benedict tomorrow for brunch.

All they had were pre-sliced thins packaged like deli meat. I asked the butcher and he said he's never seen it packaged in a log like that. I said that it needed to be thick sliced for good Eggs Benedict, at least 1/2" to 3/4". He looked at me like he was viewing a dinosaur of some kind.

My Mom had a deep pan with an insert that fit four shallow cups to poach eggs in. I wished I had not sent hers to the Goodwill when we cleaned out the kitchen stuff, as I could not find one to save my soul. I bought oven-safe custard ramekins and will put them in a covered roaster pan with water on the bottom as a makeshift solution.

Eggs Benedict along with steamed asparagus, all smothered in Hollandaise sauce. Chopped fresh fruit on the side. Cookies decorated by daughter and grandson for desert.
Happy Easter Everyone!

John, next time ask if he has a cured pork loin, I've noticed that is showing up in some of the renaming and rearranging meats cuts and their value.  Other countries ask for back bacon, we're the only place that calls it Canadian.

Evening Y'all, This has been a week from hell as far as cars are concerned. I was replacing the rear brakes on my wifes 300 c and one of the caliper slider bolts was frozen, called a buddy up to see if I could use his torches and he was out of gas and O2 for them. I call the parts suppliers around and found the part I needed in a town about 18 miles from me. I drive there and get the part, bring it home only to find out it's for solid rotor cars, not vented performance rotors. I end up taking the bracket off my Magnum and order the correct part from Rock Auto, because she needs her car for work. I get the part in, it's correct and I'm replacing the front brakes on my car and what do I find> Yup, a frozen caliper slider. I call around and find the part, Giving them the number off the bracket so they can cross reference it and they say yup, we have it. I go to pick it up and some young female waits on me, I give her the part number and she says "My computer says this isn't the right part.after explaining to her that the part number was cross referenced to the one I gave her she insists it's wrong and besides they didn't have it in stock anyway. I have her order the part and it comes in the next day,I take the old part with me because there is a core charge on it and it doesn't match. The girl isn't there so I can't yell at her.Told the guy the story about her and he says "Yeah, she does that a lot"Anyway, He tells me he has a loaded caliper at his other store and he'll get that and give me the bracket from it and order the correct part to replace it when in comes in  later in the week.Get that part home and the mounting holes which are threaded are 1/2 inch instead of 7/16.I finally find th correct part, get my car finished and here comes my sons jeep on a flatbead, the clutch went out in it.OK, project for the weekend. A little while later, my Mom calls and says her car dies and it won't restart.I drive to where she is and try to start it after checking the belts to make sure they aren't broken and find out the battery is dead and she thinks she's out of gas. Go home, get gas and jumper cables, go back put gas in car, hook up jumpers and get nothing. Have her car towed how, charge battery and try to start it, but it doesn't sound right. Open the oil fill and look in at the valves while cranking it over, no movement. The timing belt broke, and since it's a zero clearance engine, it took out some of the valves. Now I either have to find an engine for a 16 year old car or rebuild the top end, neither prospect that I'm looking forward to.
OK, Rant over.

It's not making sense sometimes, chuck roast is often $6-7 dollars a pound, I buy strip loins for $3.99 a pound, bought 3 eye of rounds the other day for 2 cents a pound less than bottom round.  Bacon 3 times higher than hams, bottom sirloin is double the price if they call it tri tip.  Call a steak from the bottom of the chuck a Denver steak and it's worth twice as much.

Went and visited the Granddaughter since us adults have pretty well got our shots.  She likes nature stuff so I took her 5 hummingbird feeders and we'll see what happens, about time for them here.

Weird, Rita and I totally forgot pictures.

Steak and shrimp for supper, got some other stuff I'm going to do and bag.   Was nice, the other two got fast food last night when we got back to town, tossed a bag of my leftovers in a pot of water and let it boil about 45 minutes, sausage and cheese hash as good as it was 2-3 months ago.

Good Morning!
Hot coffee and water for tea. Breakfast will be our household favorite, eggs over easy on toasted waffles and a side order of three crisp bacon strips.

Had a hot one yesterday, 88℉. Rains are coming so cooling down later this week.

Brunch yesterday was . . . satisfactory. I've noticed that foods don't quite taste the same as I remember them. Either dulling of tastebuds, or glossed-over memory of younger days at the table.

It's a Monday, so plan accordingly.

Bought some extra thick-cut bacon at the store yesterday and Man!, they weren't kidding! 3/16" thick, easily. Took a bit longer to crisp and I had to make sure I didn't drop it on the plate else I may have cracked or shattered the plate.

By the time it was cooked it was a plank. It was almost like chewing jerky.

But tasty.

The menfolk approved, the womenfolk felt they were invited to a Lumberjack breakfast.

My bacon has to be crisp enough that when you hold it by the tail it stands at attention.

None of that rubbery, undercooked stuff that you can't bite apart.

Mine over hard, unbroken yolks, about as hard to get out eating as a steak done medium that is not tough and dry, better off most times doing it yourself.

# 4 looks about right for me, though I would not turn down # 3 with eggs or in a BLT
..,the last one #6  is ruint, still its bacon and can be saved if you crumble it up in grits.

Steak ? , I prefer Medium to Med well... still I'm carnivore !   however  if a Veterinarian can still save it , I'll toss back on the fire.

Eggs ? over easy or  just about any prepared fashion , short of raw in glass .

mmmmmmmmmmm steak and eggs  :)

Looks like rain today and probably over the next three days.

#4 or #5. When wife cooks it we often eat #6.

Steaks medium well (just a hint of blush in the center). Eggs over easy.

As long as we're listing:
Oatmeal thick enough a spoon stays upright when inserted (I've been served what I can only describe as "gruel" in restaurants - No, No, and Nope!).
if I have to fork through the gravy just to find bits of sausage, it ain't Sausage Gravy.
And freshly baked powder biscuits, please, not those store bought hockey pucks.
Also, if you serve me freshly baked bread you're my new best friend.
Real butter.
Fully steamed fresh veggies with still a little bit of tooth. None of that stuff that has been drowned in a tin can.

There, I feel better.

Eggs over easy if they have chili on top.   Hard and broke get cheese and become samwhich.  No boiled unless deviled, deviled eggs are to be a bit hot with hot mustard, preferably Colemans, other wise they are just a form of egg salad. ;D  Google Deviled, was a recent discussion at our house.

Oatmeal is served to punish sick people in hospitals like Jello. :P

Having none of the ingredients I decided to patronize a local tavern that I recall had such.
They make very good BLT with sweet potato fries.

Weather hit 70 today in Missoula, with humidity in the low 30s. Made my labor-intensive jobs that much more fun. Summer is going to be exciting.

I like oatmeal. Not the microwave wannabe yankee grits kind, but actual rolled oats that you have to boil for ten minutes, with cinnamon and cream. Maybe even some strawberries.

I got my covid shot yesterday. This one was a little worse than the last one. Ended up with a pretty good fever, some muscle cramping, and headache.  Basically this morning I feel hungover without having touched a drink.

My Good TK
I got similar symptoms , but mild , to my first Moderna shot.
Mrs Marvel, ( a retired Dr who knows stuff )  indicates that this is the body's reaction when you have no built in immunity to the bug in the first place. The immune system sees the vaccine ( a fake of the bug)
And kicks in to makes what is req'd . We feel the "milder" symptoms because of the immune defense mechanisms.  Essentially , the symptoms we get "from a bug" are actually reactions to our own the body's
Defense mechanism. Once the bug is killed off, the defense mechanism stands down and we no longer react.

She says the "ideal bug" neithers kills the patient nor triggers an immune defense. It would seem this is why some folks can be non symptomatic carriers.

Like a Typhoid Mary. She carried Typhus her entire adult life, spread it via unwashed hands and saliva/nasal droplets/spray and killed off scores of other people but never suffered a single symptom.

Ain't Science amazing?

Currently 15 and snowing in Great Falls. There’s a good 6” in places. Will make my drive home exciting.

On the docket today, we have some chemical warfare drills, and that’s it.

I received a Flu shot in boot camp in 1959 and it made me sick. I never got another Flu shoot until about 15 years ago after I had the Flu two years in a row. It was really nasty and it put me flat on my back for over a week each time. I started getting Flu shots again and have not had the Flu since. At 80 years old I figured it would be the end of the trail for me if I were to get the Covid so I was happy to get the vaccine shots.

Bright and clear gave way to total overcast and getting darker, real time rain is slated to start @ 12 noon...

When I got my 1st Pfizer shot , there was but one location countywide , and took near 2 hours .
The 2nd, also just one location, was 50 minutes including the 15 hold time....
They seems to have the procedures , better sorted out..

Now there are several locations all around the county, My wife got her 2nd on 4/8  and she was in & out in 28 minutes.

She had no ill effects , nor did I with either doses. ( also  Pfizer )

As to Flu , I get one free every year , heck at Publix Markets they give you a $10 gift card to get it  ;)

I also got the 1 time Shingles & 1 time Pneumonia and the $10 Gift Cards 2 years ago.

Inject O prostitution ... I call it  ;D

At 80 years old I figured it would be the end of the trail for me if I were to get the Covid so I was happy to get the vaccine shots.

According the Mrs Marvel, (SWMBO) back in the the early days  most vaccines were based on the actual virus
isolated and grown on some sort of mystical media like eggs ( thus the question : are you allergic to eggs?) .
The cultured virii was then somehow killed, partially or mostly killed, or neutered somehow which could lead
to some pretty severe reactions as tho it were an actual case but which produced strong immunity to
that strain .

the professional science writers put it this way:
snip---------------------
The isolation of influenza virus 80 years ago in 1933 very quickly led to the development of the first generation of live-attenuated vaccines. The first inactivated influenza vaccine was monovalent (influenza A). In 1942, a bivalent vaccine was produced after the discovery of influenza B.

The first influenza vaccine was approved for military use in the United States in 1945 and civilian use in 1946. This whole-virus, inactivated influenza A and B vaccine had been tested in military recruits and college students before approval. Thomas Francis Jr., MD, and Jonas Salk, MD, who would become closely associated with the poliovirus vaccine, were key investigators on much of the influenza vaccine research. Influenza vaccine development was a high priority for the U.S. military after the deaths of approximately 1 in every 67 soldiers from influenza during the 1918-1919 pandemic.
endsnip-----------------

My first flu vaccine was one of those mass nationwide events after the "Swine Flu" outbreak of 1976 and I did
react to it, and it was not pleasant.

snip-------------
In January 1976, several soldiers at Fort Dix complained of a respiratory illness diagnosed as influenza. While the majority of samples were of the more common A Victoria flu strain, two were not. The atypical samples were sent to the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia, which found evidence of swine influenza A related to the 1918 flu pandemic, which killed 50 to 100 million people worldwide.
endsnip----------

After identifying "Swine Flu" in the mix, a vaccine was manufactured and nationwide effort was made to forstall another 1918 Flu Pandemic. A lot of us got flu-like reactions and bed-ridden for a few days, but it did keep a nationwide pandemic from occurring.

Because of that reaction I skipped getting any flu shots until I actually got real H1N1 one year and was laid flat
for 10 days, and literally slept on the floor in front of the porcelain god for about 3 of them, unable to move any further.

After that I got the shots every year no matter what.

as always, YMMV

In 2005 there was a shortage of vaccination and they said to let high risk people have it first.  I passed, had had some repairs done in my gut in Aug and didn't think about it and passed.  Got a stomach like flu, threw up for 2 days, damaged things and got yelled at by my Dr for not getting the shot and for not going to the ER.

It's ok, they repaired everything again between Christmas and New Years. ::)

Ah yes... "Swine Flu"  I never knew for sure I had it , but all indications and the time frame pointed to it...
I was so sick for nearly 2 weeks that winter Jan. 76  I never forgot the vivid memory....

I know I've had flu a few times but never like that ...I do recall my Kid was exposed to Chicken Pox in 3rd or 4 grade.
She did not get it, nor did my wife.... BUT I sure did !  Boy did I !  Temps ran 104 and chills and red speckles itched like a *itch.
Next to Jan. 76' it was the worst . If you get it as an adult its BAD Juju.
That is why I got the Shingles Shot ....once you have the Chicken pox the varicella virus stays in you dormant.  You may actually never get sick again, or you may get  Shingles (Herpes Zoster).
And it is actually worst than Chicken Pox itself.

NO thank you, I got the shot!

With those memories , getting the Covid 19 Vaccine was a no brainer ....

I got the shingles too, I get the pee-monia one also, had the polio, some my age didn't and paid for it, probably had the small pox one also, had the mumps one cause I missed them.  For real had both measles, whooping cough, and of course the chicken pox.    Wish they'd get a lyme one, had it twice but caught it with in days of the tick bite and got off easy.   Had mono twice, almost killed me both times.

I recall I had to get the Polio one,  the Albert Sabin’s oral version  in Elementary school . I remember it was Cherry flavored .
I seem to recall I had gotten the injection too... earlier  :-\
I was given the Small Pox, it was required for a Passport in 1958 before we went to Mexico.
It was not a conventional injection, it was  more of a scrapping and the anti-virus was dabbed on scrapped area of the arm.
Many developed a scar tissue tell tail, I never had that reaction.
I also seem to recall Pertussis (Whooping Cough) and Mumps/ Measles injections , But I did get sick with the German Measles (Rubella) when I was about 9 years old
And have had Tetanus injections several times.
I guess I am/was a regular PIN CUSHION  :)

Morning all.

Made it back to Missoula without incident.

I don’t know what all I’m vaccinated for. But it’s pretty much everything. I got 14 shots at basic training. I had the chicken pox vaccine when I was really young. I know this because one of our neighbors at the time tried to get us put on quarantine because she was convinced that it was me who had given her children the pox because “vaccines cause the diseases they are supposed to prevent.” No lady, your children got chicken pox because they aren’t vaccinated.

Thanks for coffee and grub.

Got home from our shoot around 5:00 afternoon and I was beat! Sunburned, a little shaky in the legs from being on my feet all day, a slightly scraped thumb and chapped lips.
But I had fun.

Shot cap 'n' ball and definitely have some glitches to iron out. Will need to use a different cap and powder in them. I'll try Triple 7 in the revolvers to get some extra oomph! for those reactive steel targets and leave the APP for the rifle cartridges.
Discovered that the Treso nipples on my '51 are too short for #11 caps, and those balls I cast from my new Confederate Arsenal .36 conical mold are just a bit too plump to force into the chamber with the rammer. I thought I had used pure lead, but the casting pot must have had some lead with tin mixed before I put the pure lead ingots in.

Oh well, mission accomplished to see how well the pistols performed. I'll use round ball next time and stouter powder, plus I've got RWS #1075 caps coming.
Gun cleaning today.

Forgot, had regular Dr appointment on Tuesday, avocet nurse from insurance company caught up with me finally and wanted an A1C and a Vitamin D test, A1C looks good, not perfect but good, Vitamin D is in the toilet, now on supplements, diet should have taken care of it even with out much sun but one of my meds can drain it, may explain why I get tired easy.

Also applied for disability today, should go through no problem, had planned on working PT some when I did it at 62, reality, it likely ain't going to happen, will bump me up to where it would have been if I waited to 66 1/2.   Probably should of a year ago, but didn't want to admit it.   Do plan on cooking this year including the Muster.

If anyone is interested I am planning a Dutch Oven Gathering  September 17-19th at Rock Creek Station State Historical Park if anyone is interested.   Not all true historical cooking, a weekend of friends, cooking lessons, recipe exchange and just plain old Pot Luck meals from some of the finest dutch oven cooks in the country.   More in Cosies later.

Every little bit helps, Trinity Kid. Congrats!

Good Morning All. 48℉ heading to a high of mid-sixties today.
Coffee, Tea and Hot Chocolate are on. Sausage, scrambled eggs and fried potatoes if you've got an appetite.

Lawn and garden clean-up today, cutting up the Winter-fall of tree branches to add to the wood pile then helping the wife plant her designated melon patch area in the fence corner.

Going out and cleaning the yard so John can mow soon, looks like homeless people have been living out there.  I leave the door ajar and when the Brown Butthead comes in if I don't get up and close the door fast enough to suit him he grabs something and runs ack out with it.

Round one done, about a washer load of dish towels, dish rags and hot pads, will be about the same of dog toys.   Found a mostly full can of Fabreeze, a full can of V8 and one of Body Armor and a fork.  ::)  No idea where the football came from, none of the neighbors have lost one.   One behind across the alley bought tennis balls and plays ball with him.   He has a path all the way around the yard worn, we call it his race track, he goes out and runs laps.

He is a strange dog at times, but he sure has been good entertainment through out this mess.

The moon was stunning! It started out at 6:30 a blazing orange-yellow, like a burning ball in the sky, and as it rose during the night it turned a dusky color, more of a ghoulish yellow grey rather than a pink hue. If you stretched I suppose it could be termed "pink". A huge encircling corona added to its display.

We hit a near-record high yesterday of 91℉. Expect to reach the low 80's and rain moving in this evening into tomorrow.

Naps have become a sacred duty . . .

Mornin Y'all, went to the free state of Pa yesterday to pick up a vehicle for my mom, her former car blew the timing belt which took out the valves and I couldn't find a replacement engine for it at reasonable cost or low miles. The full moon was in effect as there were some certifiable morons out driving including the guy that came up on my right side going about 100 and then cutting me off when he changed lanes with a space of mere inches of room between us. Had I been 6 inches forward of where I was he would have clipped me and caused a massive accident. Rant over,Y'all have a good day.

Morning all.

Currently 55 and overcast in Missoula.

On today’s list, I have...poop. My normal work truck (which can fit two normal tanks without needing to be emptied) is in the shop, so I’m using the smaller one. It’s similar , but only 1200gal.  Means I have to drive back and empty it after every job, which is a little time consuming.

Way better today , after Wednesday's teeth extraction.  very little sleep Wed night as nonvaccine wore off
but the Tylenol 3 Codeine is GOOD sh*t when it kicked in  :P
Made up for lost sleep with good nap Thursday and a good night...
No drugs now , and feel pretty good.

Major I too am having exactions done on the 13th all my molars up to my canines.  At least I get to nap out while it's being done.  I hope my post recovery goes as wells as yours.

As if this isn't enough of a intrusion on my physical anatomy, this next Friday I get a Colonoscopy and an Endoscopy just to make my May not sound so flowery ???.

Hope I survive to let you know how it went ???!

Mrs Marvel,s lower teeth are all falling apart. With numerous crowns, several prior root canals , one screw in place and another implant on its way, and even more lowers falling apart, she is giving serious consideration to a complete extraction and one these new fangled 4 and 1 screw palcements and complete implant plate thingy. For a variety of reasons, a regular denture plate will not work. With one already in, and another screw about to be placed, she is ready to "just do them all" , then the rest of the agony and the weeks or months of eating baby food overwhelms her poor little grey cells.

I would appreciate any and all SUCCESS STORIES to try to help reassure her, as the FUD is beginning to overwhelm her sensibilities....

Well I have had life long aberration dental work ...
I was amazed at the advances in dental technology, in just recent years.
Though I was very apprehensive going in , they made me feel comfortable, and the extraction(s) were painless.
