LEAD ?? Or "lack of??"
« on: December 18, 2021, 01:08:49 PM »

 :)  Hi All   :D

I just ran into a reference to an available source for LEAD.  Lots of Lead!!  Google up Boat Scrap Yards.  Especially Sail Boat scrap yards.  Sail Boats have KEELS.  Keels contain large lumps of LEAD or lots of chunks of lead.  Sail Boat scrap yards salvage the lead and some even melt it and cast into ingots.  BIG ingots.  Keel lead may contain Antimony.  Marvelous for hard cast bullets.  Worth a look you betcha.

Play Safe Out There

Never try to reclaim battery lead.  You won't look good in DEAD BLUE.

Ah My Dear Coffin

I would like to warn folks about blindly accepting any old Scrap sailboat boat...
Too many people have taken boat and all, gotten home , and begun the laborious teardown
only to discover the keel is a terrible mishmash of lead, lead alloys, epoxy, concrete, etc etc ....

If, however, you can confirm it is pure lead ahead of time, by all means, full steam ahead!
Do be aware that a chainsaw seems like a good idea but makes a terrible mess of fiberglass...

Please don't ask how I know

:)  Ah my Good Perfesser  :D

It's "The Eve" so let us:  Deck the Halls with Parts of Molly, Slice her Thin to keep us Jolly, Fa La La La and all that.

How correct you are.  However.  I would never suggest one should procure and salvage an entire boat themselves.  Oh No.  It's my belief one should never do one's self, what others will do for you.  And keep the mess as well.

The "Yard" I observed had done the "scrapping" and had melted the lead and had poured said lead into hefty Ingots.  That would be my idea of "Boat Yard Lead."  Perish the thought I should go to all that trouble myself.  I am, by daffy-notion, Lazy, and frugal with my efforts.

I am however, some familiar with the "fun" that can be had with a chainsaw and fiberglass.  Ahem, an event not to be repeated.

Caution!!  People are Still Hazardous to yer Health!!  Prudence!!
