Anti-hunting Grandma & Bambi
« on: April 04, 2014, 11:34:58 AM »

As an Army NCO raising 5 children, my friend used to supplement the grocery bills by deer hunting.  His mother came out to Georgia to visit him and brought some California ideas along with her.  For one thing, she made sure to bring a copy of Walt Disney’s ‘Bambi’ along to educate her grandchildren about deer.  Now I never thought about it much, but Bambi is kind of an anti-hunting film.  It shows all the little friendly animals being kind and helpful to each other while hunters kill Bambi’s mother and burn down the forest.
So she was pretty pleased when the movie showed Bambi’s father standing in the sunlight, proud and erect, while giving Bambi the sad news, that his mother had been killed, and her 5 year old grandson paused the movie and dragged his dad in to see it.

She was a little nonplussed when the little boy pointed to the great deer standing majestically in the sunlight and told his dad,  ‘Dad, next time-- shoot one like that!”
