Went to the Nugget Casino’s annual Rib Cook Off yesterday.  24 Rib cookers competing for “The Best in the West” title, along with dozens of corn stands, onion ring deep friers, beer and margarita vendors to help keep the hungries away!
Gonna do lobster tails on the grill for supper to night.
Looks like another ten days of sunny mid to upper 80’s weather here in Northern Nevada.

A veteran Marine's letter to islamic extremeists.

“To all you ignorant Islamic extremist f**ks. As I sit here constantly hearing and watching you execute innocent men, women and children in the Middle East I chuckle. Why do I chuckle you may ask? Well let me explain something to you cowardice fools who think you are so tough behind all your propaganda videos. You are scaring a population that doesn’t know how to fight, you’re bullying the weak. You say Islam is the religion of peace, but since when does terrorizing the innocent and beheading men, women and children constitute peace? WTF? But keep in mind, what did Saddam’s troops do when we came rolling into town? They surrendered, twice… So all your empty threats of coming to America and raising your flag over the White House amuse me more than any of you sick, sadistic bastards could ever imagine or comprehend. In 2012 there was about 21.2 million veterans in the United States. Do you understand what that means? Let me break it down for you. That means there are literally millions of disgruntled, dysfunctional, pissed off veterans who have been dealing with years of abuse from their government stabbing them in the backs and having to watch their friends die because you Islamic extremist idiots can’t seem to act like normal human beings and stop terrorism and the violence. It’s one thing to take over an Islamic state, but if my memory serves me correctly, I’m pretty sure we plowed through Fallujah in 4 days. Better yet, it took us about month to control your entire country. At this point, with 13+ years of war under our belts, how long do you think it would take us to do it all over again? I’ll let you draw your own conclusions on that one. Do you really think you stand a chance on US soil? Do you really think it would be smart to poke that bear? Remember, never bite the hand that feeds you. Remember we are armed to the teeth in the US and I can promise you this… the Geneva Conventions will not apply to you. You attack us and there will be no mercy. We will bring the righteous hand of God down upon you and crush you. The ball is in your court now ISIS. We are more than ready to arrange your so called “meeting” with your 72 virgins and send you to your “prophet” Mohamed.”

81 and humid here. Have a good wind kicking up, too. Wife put the awning in because of it.

Been a repair day here. I put new valve stem felts in the horn that I gave to one of the wife's alumni band members. It needed them when I gave it to her, finally got some. also had to fix the cigarette roller my SIL uses. Turned out to be just clogged up, no parts needed. ::)

Rain this morning, tried to do some casting, but the old Lee Drip-o-matic didn't cooperate. Just about when the mold got good and warmed up, everything running good, then the spout freezes up. So I go away to do something else, while it heats up again.Work on the car for half an hour, come back to find a giant lead Stalagmite(or maybe a stalagtite) all the way from the base to around the spout. Had to un plug the thing, pour out the remaining lead, and take the base off of it to "get the lead out". Now I have a volcano shaped chunk of lead that's too big to fit in the pot.

Catfish, fresh from the freezer for lunch. Probably going to town soon for the weekly grocery run. This weekend feels backwards, had to work Sat, church on sun, then off on Mon...... Feels like Sat and Sun got reversed.

Happy September good peoples.  Piss off extremists, regardless of affiliation.  I'm not disgruntled at the moment, but I can get that way in a hurry.

Grilled some T-bones & boiled some whole taters & corn on the cob. Ate early so as to not interfere with my dove hunting.

Ended up with a dozen birds in the bag & only one in the bush (soybeans actually).  One was too tore up to keep but there'll still be a good serving for one tomorrow. The Wife won't try em so I don't have to share. ;D

Rack time. Another early day at school tomorrow.

Russ T the grilled lobster sounds good.

Tasted quite good too!  After I scarfed that down I had to "not eat or drink" until this morning.  Had blood drawn for tests on Saturday and the tech forgot she was supposed to get two samples.  By the time she called, I had gobbled up a bacon cheese muffin.  So I had to go back this morning and get poked again.

Got to double up on chores today.  I didn't do laundry yesterday in honor of Labor Day, so I've got to take care of that and trash day today.

Old rule, don't do stupid things in a marked company vehicle.  This guy was making a delivery next door yesterday, SD was going to leave, they were all out on the porch, plenty of room to pull forward, wouldn't do it, said it was easy to get out if she wanted, not the point rectal opening.

Had a talk with his boss including the part where he told me to try to reproduce by myself. ::)

Boss had me E-Mail the picture, I recommended a public flogging, boss said it would not be nice, but would stop short of the flogging. ::)  The guy in the white car got there after he left so no ticket, but said to call again and they'd try to ticket it next time, don't think there will be a next time. ;)

We've had rain off and on here today. No boomers, though. Short day because of the weather, so I went and got a hair cut, and while out, got a finial for one of the LR lamps, plus some of that Gorilla Glue Super Glue. We had a guy doing doughnuts in the intersection outside our house a couple years ago.  Finally lost it and ended up broadside in our driveway.  Almost hit out car.   Then he couldn't get his 2-wheel drive truck out of the snow drift there.  Tore up the drive for about ten minutes before we shoveled him out.  At least he was apologetic about it.

City trip went okay, I guess.  Long and boring, but okay.  Ate out, and it messed up my digestive tract something awful.   Thing in the car said 99 degrees.

Y'all enjoy your evening.

Got some water heating, maybe have some tea before trying to get some sleep again. Didn't make any coffee yet, though.

Spent half the evening fighting the computer, and yahoo, they both won the battle for the day.

Hip and leg aching again, seems to come on for a few weeks or a month, then mysteriously goes away for a while, then return. Only thing I know for sure about it it, it makes it hard to sleep, and lack of sleep makes it worse >:(

Hay....

Freakin' hot. One left early. The MD cut it short.

Didn't shoot werth a crap. Swear I coulda shot it quicker with the Camp 9 'n a Glock.

It'll go faster next time. This was the first attempt 'n in light of that it went well. Roughly based on the former Ruger now USSF Challenge.

Mornin', y'all.

Pushin' ninety with the afternoon rain thing. Rained o'ernight. E'erthin's wet.

Used a 2206 Smith 'n a 10/22 Ruger. .22 rimfires.

Target set stays the same for the match. Ya shoot 5, 6 or 7, any order, last shot always goes onna specified target referred to as the 'Stop Plate.' Pistols at 7 yrads then the same set/number with the rifle from 25 yards. Anywhere from 3 to 5 strings per firearm. Slow time tossed, total time from there.

No movement, no holsters, show clear on the line. Start from low ready. If ya think ya missed a target shoot at it again. A miss is +2. Max time or DNF is 30.

Right much fun.

Well the weather was perfect for the balloons this morning!  Winds 2-3 MPH were blowing from the launch site right to my house, temp hanging about 60.

Darth was right over the AM PM a block from the house (right where ET landed a couple years ago).

Note one word in the fake report was spelled wrong....

I think there is a pirate ship balloon, but haven’t seen it yet ( but it is only day one).  I think the problem would be that by the time the keel of the ship was on the water line, it would be very hard to keep the burner llit.   ;D

Evening y'all.

City trip went ka-put.  Showed up for class with the work ready.  The teacher says, "those of you who are done with the test can leave whenever you want."  I left after fifteen minutes. ::)
I drove the car all the way from Whiskeytown today.  For those of you not in the know, that's about 40 miles from my house, over one large summit and a whole bunch of curvy road over smaller hills.  Almost got rear-ended by a semi comin' up.  Guy was kind of driving like a jerk...
Sister and Brother have soccer games tomorrow.  In the morning, I'm going to go do some practicing with the deer rifles, then come back and do some 4x4-ing with my truck.  Might see if I can convince a certain young lady to come along as well. ;)

Now that all the good news is out of the way, I can get to the bad.

My friend's cousin is currently sitting in the Trinity County Jail with a murder charge hanging over his head.  :o  Here's the story as it has been told by the suspect.
Apparently this cousin's dad was out last night driving, when "somebody (nobody knows if it was a person or Bud Light)" made him swerve into a light pole.  This morning, he got upset and grabbed his handgun and told his son he was going to go kill this person.  The son gets between him and the door, pulls the handgun out of his own pocket and tells him he's not going anywhere.  The dad starts to raise the gun, but the son gets his out first and hits the father in the upper right arm.  The father died in the ambulance because of a cut artery.

On the one hand, you got to hand it to the kid.  He did what he felt he had to do.
On the other hand, how does he feel, knowing he killed his own father?
This "kid" is actually 20-some, with a "significant other" and a two year old daughter.

Well, the brother's soccer game was a little bit of a flop...  6-0, not in our favor.
Sister did a little better. 3-0, though still not in our favor. :-\

Nothin' really went right for me, either:

1)Truck wouldn't stay running
2)didn't get to go 4-wheeling
3)didn't get to take the girl 4-wheeling(or do anything with her at all, 'cept stand under the same shade canopy.  ::)  )
4)didn't get to go dove hunting
5)didn't get lunch or dinner because of company

Of course, on the bright side, I did get my brother's shotgun fixed. ::)

I am kind of nervous about tomorrow, though.  First real math exam at the college.  I got 100% on the practice test, so...  Wish me luck!

Had enough football for one weekend. Breakroom had one game on the console had another all day,  got home to watch the final plays in the land that Coor's built.

Dove season open yesterday at noon. Nearly a month long this year. Numbers are up.

Overcast and humid this morning not sure what the temps will be. I am sure it will be another day in paradise.

Burgers were good on Saturday!  We Invited our friend up to Virginia City for the Camel Races, on Sunday, then the Comstock Cowboys playing at the Bucket of Blood.

We told our friend that they had Camel Races, Ostrich Races, Emu Races and Chicken Races.  She wanted to know how you could race chickens.  Told her you get behind them and fire blanks into the air.  She discovered that the Emus and chickens were chased around the course by small children.  The camels and ostriches are actually ridden by jockeys.

Was great to be in a saloon with 75 percent of the clientele were like me (dressed in period attire and carrying period firearms)!

Arcey

We haven’t had any rain around here since early August (and that was a totally weird heavy downpour).  I put a stop to that strange weather by putting up a rain gauge.

I think I need to take down the rain gauge and sell the snow blower to get rid of this 3 year drought we’re in!

We've been getting a little rain now & then. Not the 6" Del was bragging about, but more than we're used to.

This is day one of my new chemo cycle. So far so good, no ill effects as of yet.

Popcorn sales on Saturday was a bust. Didn't have near the crowd they were expecting for the car auction.  Dress rehearsal was disappointing. Lot of the cast didn't know their lines or the music yet. Not surprised, still not happy about it.

Had meatloaf for supper. Meatloaf sammich for lunch tomorrow & maybe the next day.  Always been my favorite thing to put between two slices of bread.

Braunschweiger and thinly sliced red onion on pumpernickel bread, with dark mustard, is a close second to a good cold meatloaf sandwich.

evenin' y'all.

Math test went pretty well.  Only one question I wasn't sure about.

went for a walk with my friend.  We went about a mile up a creek, then cut across some brush and up a steep hill to the top of a ridge.  From there we returned to the cars, then walked up another road.  Saw a bear -I won't say it fell out of the tree, but it wasn't exactly a controlled descent.  We returned to the cars after that...  didn't know where mama bear was. :-\

Got some rain up on the hills today.  About 2".  Enough to get the creek flowing (had been completely dry for the top four inches of bed), and cold and muddy.  The two dogs enjoyed it, though.

We have some deer in our neighborhood that are rather friendly toward me.  Backstory, I rescued these twins when they still had spots, and they remember me.  Every day I go outside and give them some apples.  Sometimes one, (call him "Spike") will actually take it out of my hand.  Kind of fun.  :)

Outstanding day one , Stu...

We are in day 4 of a 60% rain cycle , in fact they are posting 80% today & 60 % tomorrow.
Once again, it was white out like driving conditions on the Turnpike commute home last night....  ( spray & hard rain )
Testy,  as the Maroons  can't seem to drive in rain.

I'll keep you some company too...

Okay, here's the scoop:
In Spanish class, there is an "online portion."  meaning you have to go onto a website to do half the homework.  I've been doing the hard copy work up until today...then I came to a spot that told me to refer to the video.  I shrugged my shoulders and went to get online.  Got there, and the class code didn't work.  After two hours of trying, I finally got on, and just decided heck with it, and did three weeks of work in the last three hours.  Still have a week more before the test/due date Thursday. :-\

had first practice for community band tonight.  I played first chair and third chair mostly, depending on what music we had.  I only played second, which is my official title, once. ::)  Such is life.

Going to the city tomorrow.  more government funded hell education.  On the bright side, at least I can get an education in this country.  It just drains the energy out of me faster than any physical labor I've ever done.

Night y'all.

Pots on, I'm awake, don't know why, may go back to bed later.

"Learned" something new yesterday, didn't take at all, basically our buyer for hats told me I'm supposed to sell the customer what he thinks they should want rather than what the want. ::)   Guess how that went over, he left with my list of "demands" but wasn't happy, also left with a list of what he bought he thinks they should buy and will mark them down and see if they sell that way.

Damn it must be hard to be stupid, no one likes you but other stupid people. ::)

Such is the SALES mentality ...I hate that ! >:(
I WILL NOT be told what I want.... is the fastest way to see my exit .....or dial tone ...

The second way is to cop an attitude , when I politely and if that does not take , then not so much,  tell them what I DO want !
bottom line.. "my money... my rules !

and my standard Line ... when "they"  bring up X # of years, they've been the so called expert "so & so"...

"I have underwear older than that " !   ... I usually do !  :)

I figured you'd agree with me, I ain't changing my methods, this dipstick is the only with a problem with what I do and he really has no control over me, he's just the buyer.  Bottom line, I sell lots of hats, I have very happy customers and them young kids like the grumpy/mad hatter persona.

My hat is out of shape and I don't know why, "you left it in the hot pick-up."  Yeah how did you know that, "it looks like it."   Most it's their first hat and they never realized what would happen.  I put it back together if I can and explain why it's bad.   I teach them that when I sell them a first hat.

I sell a lot of a certain cheap black hat, not a good hat but decent for the price,$59.98, most are bought by college kids going out line dancing and chasing diseased wimmin, he told me I should be selling them more expensive hats.  yeah like they have the money for it.  Pointed that out, explained who buys them in that exact terms I just did and pointed at a case at a certain high dollar hat and mentioned that we make more money off them than that $749.98 hat that has never sold.  Nice hat, wrong brand, also explained you can't sell a red tractor to guys who's dad and grandpa told them to only buy green.

Battle most likely ain't over, but I hit him hard yesterday.  Nick the one manager who was there and I were talking later about how he still don't fully grasp it.  I told him there is a bit of fun in doing battle like that.   LOL it was funny, the two managers walked in with him and never said a word, dumbing knew they were there more for his protection than anything cause they know I can get pissy, asked them to come and tell me when i got too nasty and out of line.    ;)

We have a tornado warning for Medina, Wayne and Summit counties up right now. :P

Today was my electrical problem day. Started out with a control frying down at the sewer plant, number one blower is down. Then had a breaker popped in the barn/ community center. Got that straightened out and proceded to do some clean up in the restrooms. Went to turn on the lights in the kitchen area to empty the sweeper bin and POP! fizzz.........lights went out in the kitchen. Think it's the transformer in the 40 something year old flourescent fixture. We'll look into that one tomorrow. Boss decided to turn truck over early, and while we were down at the sewer plant I got a call from the Asst. Manager that a tree had fallen on an electrical box up in the old section. We had to go check on it. Box was okay, tree just brushed it, plus it was a fairly small tree. We'll probably cut that one up on Friday. Wasn't even storming/windy either. Probably lucky it wasn't, might've come down harder ::) :-\

Internet explorer wouldn't explore, just kept giving me a message "Internet explorer has stopped working". Shop quoted $120 to go through it and clean it up, I wasn't going to do that for a 3 year old laptop, so then she just went in the settings and re-set something and it works again, and advice for a free program to help clean out the malware. Hmmmm... Now if I can just get Excede satellite to stay up, and Yahoo to stop telling me my password is wrong, I'll have this computer thing whipped!

The photogs wouldn't give up. Yanello hit the capture gettin' the last of the formerly missin' band numbers. Well done, Jim.

Vegetables ta butcher. Gettin' an early start.

That warning stayed up for quite a while. That particular cell was really active and caused sightings in 3 or 4 counties before it finally quit. There was some damage reported from it. All we got was some rain. Just quit raining here a few minutes ago. Might be it for the rain now, but temps are going to be lower for the next week. Highs in the 60's and into the 40's for over night ones ::)

I was born in 1947, so WW2 was still fresh. We had several POW camps in the Texas Panhandle. My Dad was in the Air Corps in pilot training when Pearl Harbor was bombed. He was enroute to the Pacific when we dropped the Atomic Bombs. Dad didn't talk which about the War until I was in Junior high. He did live to see 9-11. I am sure that he always remembered Pearl Harbor and I will always remember 9-11.

I was at work at the Post Office, sorting mail to get ready to go out on the route. Wasn't paying attention to the radio, when a guy next to me says a plane hit the World Trade Center. No more news than that at first, we just figured some Cessna driver got lost and crashed into it. Didn't take long for more news to come. Didn't see it on TV until after work, when I got home.

Ididn't need to stock up at that time...When the Clinton ammo/component shortage was over, I stocked up pretty well. I still have some of the primers I bought then. (Small rifle, don't use much)

I was in the Norfolk Police Computer support unit working when we heard  plane hit the first tower. Saw the second one hit on TV and knew it wasn't an accident. We had the Emergency Center, referred to as the , "War Room", set up before the call came from downtown to activate it. Then I went over to the 2nd precinct and set up the Police Command Center, which is were I spent the next several days.

Spanish test went well, I think.  We'll see next week.

So, where was I when I heard about the news...
I was asleep on the front sofa with my grandma when my mom came in the door and said that someone had rammed the World Trade Center.  we turned on the tv, and watched the second hit, then heard about the Pentagon.  That was the day I learned to drink coffee, as well.

I was at Home, heading for Location for "God & Generals "and packing to Fly up to BWA on the 12th.
My wife was at her work and called  " turn on the TV " it was just after 9 AM....

I went and filled the Super Duty with Diesel, then the Jeep with gas... figured those commodities might soon be in short supply.

Course, my flight the next day was canceled indefinitely, nor was I too keen on flying anyway  :o
Couldn't get even through to the AM/Track ...and a Bus was out of the question...
So, after sitting at home, and needing to be in Hagerstown, MD.  I decided to drive.... Fuel was not all shorted after all.
I drove the I-75 to I-81 route, stayed plenty clear of the DC I-95 corridor.

I think it 5-6 days before the National grounding of all flights was lifted.... Travel was VERY confused , Trains included.

Woke up to 34º and a snow covered pick-up this morning.  The ground was too warm for any to pile up, but we got some moisture out of it.

The antics of the Haden family are pretty low on my give-a-sh!t-ometer.

I don't doubt that the Kid started drinking coffee at 3, but it's very unlikely that he has any real memories of the actual day.  More likely implanted memories from hearing the story repeated over the years.  The brain of a 3 year old is just reaching the point of having enough neural connections to form permanent memories. (Thus endeth the psychology lesson).

My daughter started drinking coffee right about age 3.  My trapping partner would show up at what I considered still the middle of the night and make coffee in my kitchen.  By the time I emerged from my room dressed & ready he would be at the table with my baby girl on his lap, both of them sipping coffee.  He told me not to worry, it has plenty of milk & sugar in it ::)

Looks like I missed the "where were you then" yesterday.  I was teaching American History to a bunch of 7th graders at Maxwell, Nebraska.  Like Pony, I had plenty of ammo & components on hand.  I did fill up the pick-up that day & put an AK & several loaded magazines behind the seat before I left for school the next morning.

Stumblin' 'round the house in silence. The village idiot decided to talk about Ray Rice 'n peripheral issues. It's as if we don't have interesting local issues - we do. I'll turn it on come 1000 hours. If the village idiot, jr. decides to talk about it I have some Led Zeppelin all cued up.

The news media, in all forms, maintains its downward spiral. As always, I long for viable local talk radio in Tidewater Hampton Roads Coastal Virginia discussing local topics.

Cereal & chips come in the same size package with lowered net weight printed on em.  Bacon doesn't come I pound packages any more either.  Most people don't notice, that's why it works.  Heard someone complaining  about paying $5 for a pound of bacon the other day & said that'd be a pretty good deal. Best I've seen lately is 12oz for $5.

N every word of it is true Majer!

Been busy since Wednesday last. Son in Law grabbed our daughter around the throat and smacked her several times, she called her Mom and while she was on the phone I called 911. Norfolk's Finest hauled his butt off. We now have the daughter, two granddaughters, two dogs, a cat and a turtle moved in with us. The dirtbag is refusing to give her any money but wants his stuff. She has an Emergency Protective Order against him and she is in court this morning getting an extension to it. We got the grandkids settled at school this morning out here in Chesapeake, the bus will be picking them up and dropping them off at the end of the driveway.

Targeted a US Aircraft Carrier to STORM , except they mistook a Pakistan Navy frigate in the port....

Yeah ! they do so look alike ..I mean they both float right !  ::)  didn't go well.. boy's your turbans are on to tight !
Three of the al-Qaeda fighters were killed and seven were arrested according to Pakistani officials.

Afternoon y'all.

Picnic thing went well enough.  Didn't win any of the raffles I entered.
Afterwards, we went and spent an hour or so on the beach.  Got wet, watched some guys catching fish I've never even heard of, much less seen.  I also hurt my arm.  Pulled it throwing -of all things- a jellyfish.  What can I say.  I'm talented. ::)

City trip went okay.  Hot and boring, but other than that not too bad.

Five days to deer season.

Expect Rain the next few days , TD is headed by ... seems El Nino is causing wind shear that either keep the storm from gaining much steam, and/or holds them to an off shore northerly track ...least that what the guessers are saying.

Them ones arcey pictured probably older than Grandma Wells.  They are a little bigger breed- i'd agree with Del one of them ducks toasted with some kraut and dumplings would be tasty.  Or some duck sausage.  The other way is to take some compressed air, then inflate the skin away from the carcass. Then drop it in the turkey frier.

Evenin' y'all.

City trip was okay today.  got a 95% on my Spanish test, so, that helps.

Had band practice this evening.  it started late, ended the same way, and then I had to walk home.  That's all okay, except that I drank nearly a liter (I used a metric measure, but I refuse to spell it with an "re"   ::) ) before practice.
The band was missing a few people as well, so some sections were somewhat lacking.  Oh well.

Doing some final homework, then going to bed.

Morning

Finally got my new PC up and running.  Lost the hard drive on my old one and it was a toss up to just replace the drive, or the whole desktop, (went with the latter).  Managed to recover all of my email files, including user files, contacts, and calendar.  All my other user files were also recovered, so I just had to reinstall some software and go thru all my settings. I Think I’ve got them all.  The good thing is it cleans out a lot of old deadwood!

Got some real clouds overhead this morning, but they’re rather thin, and don’t have enough moisture to cause a threat of rain.  Most of it is smoke coming north from the fire over in California, South of Lake Tahoe.  The smoke gets worse in the afternoon when the wind picks up.  I like the smell of a good campfire, but this is a bit too much!

Made a few clouds of my own this afternoon- shot my Walker for the first time......."awesome"
Tried out some Hornady Lites... I would compare them to 4 grains of titegroup and 125 grain cast bullet. The Lites shot a little 12" high compared to the reloads mentioned. Fired from a Ruger SP.101 with 2" barrel. they did improve from my S&W with 41/2" barrel.

Then over to Oneonta Al. Not NY for some pulled pork on a bun and fried pickles. Sammich was too big to finish so supper is in the white box. Looked at a 4 wheel dump cart for lawn n garden work at tractor supply. May have to borrow pick up and go get one.

Afternoon y'all.

City trip was okay.  Just, rather boring.

I have an interesting decision here.  I'm thinking about bidding on a 1991 Chevy 3/4 ton.  It's a silent auction for a retired fire department chief's vehicle, so it's been well cared for.  I would just have to sell my Ranger if I got it.  Trade a V6 Ranger 4.0 for a V8 Silverado 5.7, with a corresponding loss in mileage.  I've got until October 1 to enter, so, time is on my side for now.

I tested myself last night to see how close I am to being able to pass the Air Force Personal Fitness Test.
requirements are:
-70 push ups in a minute
-60 sit ups in a minute
-1.5 miles in 9:15.

Here's how I did.
-42 push ups in a minute
-40 sit ups
Didn't test for running.

I've got a ways to go. :/

Wow, went to the store after going to the dump, took a different route because of how far north i was, finally made it, went miles out of my way due to construction and the big rail yard has few places to get across, kept running into construction, kept detouring further away, was afraid they were coming in behind me and would trap me and there would be no where out.    ::)

Beware when your state or commonwealth becomes occupied by the north.

First. DMV no longer knows the difference between a scooter and a moped.

We have a tunnel named for a fictional sea battle. A Monitor v Merrimac thing never happened. A Merrimac hadn't been built at the time of the first battle of ironclads. USS Monitor vs. CSS Virginia did happen and it was the first battle of ironclads. The CSS Virginia contained salvaged components from the scuttled USS Merrimack – Merrimack, with a friggin' K! It doesn't matter how many times some revisionist historian from The Peoples' Republik of Maryland gets it wrong!

Finished early 'nuff at the doc's ta get to the indoor. On the way back I was outraged to find we are now being encouraged to speed. Data sign read 'HRBT 15 miles, 15 minutes.' Do the math. One can't travel fifteen miles in fifteen minutes at the 55 mph speed limit.

This is not Jefferson's Virginia.

Their problems run much deeper than CC or NCLB. School board's composed of politically appointed cronies with an imported, AA superintendent.

The paper's caught 'em in several lies recently. The reporter also busted up an attempt to hold an illegal – by definition – closed door meeting. I expect the reporter to be reassigned in the near future as the last public schools reporter did.

They started a revolving door, unconventional hours school for drop outs and disciplinary problems. Supposed to start this year but they failed to secure a building for it – no kiddin'.

It's kinda comical if your kid isn't in the system. Imagine a Keystone Cops version of a school board.

TK, sad to say, that's about the same price everywhere. If you can find pistol powder, it's $25-30, , primers are getting easier to find, probably $3.50-4 per hundred. That leaves $18-20 for the bullets, + tax. I'm afraid the current situation has turned the whole country into California when it comes to anything shooting related(Except for the stupid lead ban........so far)

Just got my Midway order. Some .348 Win brass to form into various old milsurp cases, and an 8MM and .303 bullet mold. Weather has cooled off, so my workshop should be just right for melting lead now.

We also don't have Common Core here.

Fighting it here, our Governor let it in, not the legislature. Same Governor that just had a record 57 vetoes over ridden. ( Dem Gov, Rep legislature)

Moose stays out of school politics as much as possible.

So do many of the NPS teachers. They stay out by leavin'. Memory serves they lost 22% of their experienced classroom teachers last year and 18% this year.

All the neat stuff comes in with federal money.

The shop had more pistol powder on the shelves today than I've seen inna while. Had 6 pounds of Bullseye. Thinkin' it was twenty six 'n change. Had some WST 'n 296 too. Over the last few months I've picked up 'nuff pistol stuff, in general, ta last a spell. Lookin' for specific powders now. Still want some Titegroup.

Moose brought home some take-out lasagna and salad for supper. It was good, we don't do Italian much. I woke up for a plumbing check and can't go back to sleep. I fixed a cup of Cawffee from the Kuerig. It's Decaf, so maybe I can go back to sleep in a few minutes.

48 and sun here. Off today, we broke a mower yesterday and my Boss is using today to fix it( tie rod). Dog's are going off, the paper's here. Have to do the lawn today once it dries enough. After that, maybe the dogs will get a bath, plus I've got to clean the valve casings on the Olds, number two wanted to hang up at practice Wednesday night. Usual problem after a horn's been chem cleaned. Dries the casings out too much and it takes a while to build up extra lubricant film ::)

Good morning all.

Coffee necessary for function today.  Up late last night, up early this morning.  Went for a jog with a friend.  made a mile and a half in just over 15 minutes, and that with having to walk a quarter mile for his asthma.  Not too bad, except that it was about 42 degrees, with fog thick enough to drink.  ::)  Not quite to the 9:15 I need to be at, but it's a start.

Don't have to be in the city until 1 this afternoon, so we'll be leaving at 11.  Dang road construction ruins any form of scheduling.  leave early enough for it, and you don't have to wait, and arrive at you destination and hour early.  Leave ten minutes later, and arrive five late. >:(

1 day til deer season.

I never was a big dune buggy fan, but that VW Bug-pickup is cool. But it probably wouldn't be a good plan to actually use it for a truck, I'm thinking 500lb on the back might be all it could take, unless they used a VW Bus suspension on it.

Built one of those pick-up or rather they are a flat-bed, in 77, was a kit, didn't put the faux 40 Ford front on it though.  Boss used it as a shop truck built stake sides, about 1/4 ton was right, but hat's what the Ford A model pickup was also.   Most small pick-ups are about like that, just put coil over shocks on back and they do fine.

Looks like they would have to use the motor, or at least the cooling system and other tinwork, from a bus or one of the other VW Station wagon/fastback models(Forget the proper name for those, had a couple when I was stationed in Deutschland). I think the cooling fan/generator on the standard bug would be too tall for the flatbed.

I rented one of the buggies like those once, they are great fun.... jump'n' dunes & spinn'n doughnuts....
used to see them all the time. There was a whole cottage industry of body kits for the V-dubs in the 70's.
Myers made a sand-rail which was just a tube frame & floor skin , without or very little bodywork.... kinda Baja racer for the road.
You don't see them on the road anymore  :-\

Rained all night, still drizzling,  calling for 50%. and a high of 80° today... :)

Speaking of tater salad, we had a discussion of it elesewhere, I've been tolt by many I make good tater salad, don't know, don't eat none of those things called salad that ain't mostly green leafy stuff, but I did write down my recipe for folks.

Potatoe Salad.

Use some cold boil't taters chopped up, add what ever you think would be good to that and then take some mayo and add what you think would be good with mayo over cold, chopped boiled taters and what ever else you added to them. mix will in a bowl, cover and take to a picnic and let cook in the sun for several hours. There, now you have a recipe for tater salad. :P

Seems like everybody's sleeping in this morning, so I'll build up the fire and put some water on to heat.Kind of need the fire this morning, computer tells me it's only 48 deg outside. Was a bust weekend, barely had time to shoot, fired some test rounds from the Portugese Kropatschek I bought a few weeks ago, Bullets went about where I thought they should, and holes were round this time, so I guess my home "re-crowning" job helped (done with a 1/4 flat head screw, some valve grinding compound and a drill). Had the airshow, wife's Philippine friends get together on sat, and then after church, we took my #1 daughter to her first school friend's birthday party. Mowed some grass after and then the weekend was over :-[

No it won't. They're following a proven strategy - "give the sheeple what they want" - they want to see themselves in the public media, anywhere but the police blotter or the obituaries.

The Wife (known to some as Sweet T Kettle) is a natural with the pocket pistol. She's always pretty near the bottom of the main match scores, but always first or second in the pocket gun side match.

Ain't talkin' to the paper with the comments. They're directed at the readers.

The paper moved the article puttin' the base in the wrong city after I called it. They put it under 'More' in the Military section. The pictorial was moved to the same place while I was in the shower. One has to dig to find it.

They once ran really nice photos of a storm over the base. Exaggerated the hell out of the speed of the wind gusts. The base is the data collection point for the NWS. The wind gusts were twenty under what they published. It was corrected without comment.

Occasionally, a reader will hit a nerve and the comment will disappear. Hell, I've been on probation twice and banned once.

For every good thing they do, i.e. the work on Norfolk's school board, they do ten stupid. It's what happens when a local publication has no competition. The new publisher is from Maryland.

It's gone to subscription. I'm in on the fat lady's print subscription or I'd be on local blogs.

Oh well, manual labor awaits.......................

The news media have never been high on my list of folks to like.

The job of the news paper is to report. They have long past that obligation. With so many other sources of news. They just fill in the spots around paid advertisments. With whatever the owners will allow. Including their own believes-commentaries and politics and other unproven facts.
Then of course if not for newsman there would have never been a Watergate.

I like to clean my guns on newspaper  ( that in itself, should set the liberals off ( ban newspapers and I can't clean guns )
I use it for paint masking....
& garbage liner ( in fact gun solvent soaked  it keep the #*&%$# Neighbor dog out of the dam cans ! )

Major 2,

All of which are corruptions of the intent/meaning of not only this Amendment of the original 10 Amendment's of the Bill Of Right.
A corruption caused and created by those, for the most part, who dependent on the First Amendment's Freedom of Speech?

This is not simply my "opinion".
Think about it!
Every time anyone pays for any NEWS that is not news but political editorial, is paying to keep the garbage going.
They can't sell their version of the news without advertisements. Boycott not only the publishers/editors but those that buy and pay for adds.
Title: Re: September's coffee & conversation is up

Hence the very reason I won't buy one...
However, I'm blind to whomever might advertise, as I don't read them either...
It not the ad that would attract me or my $ anyway....

But I would agree, hit them where they hurt.... in the pocket  :)

as an example I'd offer...

William Randolph Hurst played a huge part in arousing the public opinion to go to war with Spain.

We wouldn't be buying much. Cars to groceries are hawked in there. All the friggin' grocery stores in this area run their sales ads in the paper.

The value to me is the feedback from the subscribers. The local television news websites enable comments but they don't have the number of readers/viewers the paper does. They're rarely visited. Another plus for the paper over the TV stuff is we don't have to endure the overly made-up 'personalities' and their trained-for-the-moment voice inflections.

I tend to want to know what the enemy thinks. Especially the local enemy. I can't come up with a better way to find out than print or the web version of it.

I look to the Repository when something happens that way that makes the national news, Buck. A holdover from the Cutts trial.

We had a good one covering Norfolk's city hall. When a full time gig covering nothing but ODU football/sports opened he jumped on it. The beach reporter doesn't break as much stuff as either he did or the current one does.

It's fun watching the maturation of the current Norfolk schools reporter. She was publishing their press releases. Telling folks everything was progressing nicely. Since she caught in lies her attitude, and reporting has changed considerably.

Morning, off today and tomorrow.

Last time we got the local paper was about,,,,,,,, hmm, not sure, might have been this cenrury.  Rita got hit up by some guy at the store, think if we took it it was a couple dollars for several weeks, heck, they might have even paid us, trial you know, would impress us and we'd then want it at the regular price.

Yep, thing showed up on the curb, Rita would drag in in when she got home, I didn't bother.  I was home when the called to get us to reup at the regular price.  Told them if I had to walk that dang far in the morning for a paper I'd go on to the Quick shop and get a cup of coffee too.   Never called back.

L'il cooler 'n a l'il less humidity 'n it'd been close ta perfect. Awful fine breeze ta go with it. Hopin' for no rain tomorrow. Or at least nothin' fallin' twix 'bout nine 'n one out the radar trap otherwise known as Waverly way.

We went to Chili's  ,SUCKED !

I ordered the SW egg rolls , burger sliders , buffalo chicken , it really an appetizer plate , but I opp'ed it for my dinner.
Looked good in the Menu...We waited some 45 minutes from ordering to food arrival

Burgers were Dried out and way beyond well done, little buns were hard or stale  , Buffalo chicken chunks were fried hard ( clanked on the plate ) and dried out....
the pieces of celery sat on plate so long they were wilted....
The SW Egg rolls were passable I guess...

I said forget it , take it and adjust the check ...Manager stopped by offered something quick as my wife & daughter were eating.
Soup she said or Salad ?  Nope thanks but no thanks... so she brought a a dam chicken Cesar salad....anyway
and by-God charged for it !  >:(

I'll never go there again !

53 and dark here. ::)

Arcey, you might wanna watch the The Rep again. may have a situation brewing. Three perps tried to rob a Marathon station here Monday night. Clerk has been open carrying because of previous attempts. They came in shooting and winged the clerk who shot back and killed two of them. Video of outside shows them entering with guns drawn, and then staggering out and trying to crawl off. Last night coming home from practice we went by there and there was a dang candle light vigil going on on the corner in front of the station with several cruisers parked across the street watching'em. Might be another of the St. Louis area things starting here because of it. Poor perps shoulda not been shot since they were just sticking the place up, I guess. Third one got away, but I guess they're saying that he was caught up in Cleveland yesterday. Haven't heard on that one yet for confirmation ::) :o :-\

Seems this country's gone half crazy, when you have riots for weeks because some yahoo decides to try to beat up a cop and gets shot for his trouble. Hears on the radio yesterday, somebody burned down the memorial in Ferguson, so the riot begins all over again.

Arcey, if you got a Jollibee's there, my wife will be jealous! There's one about every half mile in the Philippines. To me, seems like most any fast food chain here-Food's never great, but at least it's the same level of mediocre everywhere you go.

Awful fine OFSDAR day, hadda blast. Twas the first loser.

Missed the 4th shot of the match. Screwed the grip when I drew, shot 3 knockdowns, clean, awkward but clean. When I was movin' to the next point, went ta regrip 'n got it werse. Threw the 4th under the freakin' target. Speed kills. Cleaned the rest of the stage. That knocked the rust off. Shot the next 140 rounds after the miss clean. Executed the dreaded Flatboat Bob Sweep on six, no P, no miss.

The stage set for the day.

Shooter reloadin' 'n movin' twix points with RO 'n spotters in pursuit.

Arcey, another note on the situation here. Guess they were out on that corner again yesterday. Someone posted on Facebook about them getting rowdy, the station's employees wearing heat, and the police had been called. Didn't see anything in the Rep about it today. There was a sign a card for the clerk thing today at the station as well as taking donations to defray his medical costs. That made the Cleveland TV station this evening. County Crime Watch Facebook page says they have run somebody in to talk to, might be the third perp. ::)

Had an uneventful hunting trip today.  Saw a single buck, pretty decent fork.  About 1 second longer and 10 yards closer, and I could say I got him.  Unfortunately, it wasn't long enough, and was too far.  Life in the steep, thick forest continues.

Thanks for the Cawffee this morning. I sorta slept in today. I did a lot of walking at the Flying Tigers reunion yesterday, but I had a good time. We had some beef brisket for lunch, with all the trimmings and lots of iced tea.

Well it did sorta spit on us yesterday, but I can’t say it really rained.  They did get a bit of snow up on the mountain, so we may get off to an early ski season (RIGHT!).

The grilled salmon came out good last night.  Not sure about tonight (if the weather looks ok may head south to Genoa for the annual Candy Dance (craft booths, candy booths, food and beverages).

Major2 have you looked at the Phillipine made one?  Rock Island? Basic gun can up grade anything with aftermarket parts. Considerably cheaper.

At work till 2 got enough time to drive to fried chicken place and take some home before Auburn kick off. Heavy rains predicted tonight tomorrow.

Just got home, kind of a long day today. Next town over from us had their fall get together, my church set up a ternt and gave away popcorn, snow cones, and cotton candy. But once it was set up, the ladies did most of the operating, till it came time to tear it all down again. Supervised our young'uns playing in the bounce house, riding the "train", getting face painted and all that good fair stuff. Then off to the "big city" and the weekly torture....errrr... shopping trip to Wal Mart. Then dinner and home. I'm not going anywhere except church tomorrow!!! Maybe some plinking out in the back "yard". Cast some bullets from a couple of new molds early this morning that need to be experimented with.

Evenin' y'all,

Band concert went well, though the director pulled a fast one on me and had us play one I hadn't even heard of before.  Apparently, they played it the first week, but I wasn't there... Other than that, it went pretty well.

After the performance, went out deer hunting.  Took my amigo along, for his second time out hunting.  Didn't see nothin' but a jack rabbit.  Would have popped him, but a 30-30 is just a little bit too much for a little bunny. ::)
This brings up another point.  Last night when I was oiling my rifle after being out in some wet foliage, I found a three inch long crack in the buttstock.  starts right in the middle of the butt plate, and goes strait in.  My dilemma is, I don't want to restock the rifle.  It's the original stock and finish from 1928.  Pre- Olin, pre - depression, pre- most (all?) of us on this forum. :P  So, I'm going to have to pony up some money and get a new rifle next week.  Or maybe a Magnum revolver, perhaps I'll have better luck handgun hunting.  We'll see.

Plans changed yesterday. Humidity was high so I postponed the outdoor plans. The local theater had a customer appreciation event - free movies. The girls and I watched "How to Train Your Dragon 2". The boys and the wife watched the "Lego Movie". Before the movie, we went to Fleet Farm. After the movie, we bought groceries.

Pork chops and corn on the cob for luuuuuuuuuuunch.

Thanks Roo.

The weather decided not to cooperate with the outdoor plans yesterday, so had to come up with alternative supper plans.  Had the same idea as Slim and went for pork chops (boneless).  They at least had time to thaw out before supper.

The weather still hasn't given us real rain, just drippings.  The patio under the big pine in the back yard is still dry.

Can’t get back ta nature with gloves…………….

First off, it ain’t none my bidness. Second off, I ain’t the prize I used ta be ta the fairer sex when I’m wearin’ shorts – or anythin’ else for that matter – But……….

Thinkin’ if some, or most, the ladies knew how folks snicker when they wear what used ta be peddle-pushers now capris, or yoga pants, what are heavy fabric panty hose with no feet, they’d n’er leave the house in ‘em. Not ta be unkind, but a lot of ‘em, like me, ain’t what they used ta be ‘n some of  ‘em n’er were ‘n n’er gonna be. ‘Specially wearin’ flip flops on their skanky feet, dirty from walkin’ parkin’ lots. Go back to jeans 'n get a pair of shoes, ladies. We'll all be glad ya did.

Just finished the dreaded task of changin’ out the wireless router. Ain’t a damned werd on it matchin’ the werds in the wireless cards’ or the printer’s software. Kept typin’ nummers ‘n they finally took one. Reckon the last one was it…..

Happy B-bay, Arcey!

Condolences to Buck and friends.

Concerning capris and spandex in general: Ladies, if you have to wear the high water pants, at least don't wear the ones that look like knee length bell bottoms! That just looks like you're still wearing pants you outgrew.

And for the spandex tights, some things SHOULD be left to the imagination! I've seen ladies that look good in jeans, or a skirt, only to have that image spoiled by wearing those skin tight spandex pants.....

Happy belated birthday Arcey.  Was under the weather yesterday and didn’t check the site.

Had a visit from a hawk the other day.  I think it was an immature grey hawk.  Sat in the pine tree in the back yard, about 8 feet off the ground and 10 to 15 feet from the patio door.  Drove the cat nuts for about 20 minutes.

Sorry for the loss Buck.

I guess I'll stick my ugly mug in here for a cuppajoe before the month expires.  I ain't daid yet, but it's been chancy a couple of times of late; now things are not as rough, just sometimes inconvenient - I sure wish we could figure out just what's eatin' at me.  Oh, the travails of a life lived hard, and outliving most of ones peers.

Belated "Hippo-Birdy, Two Ewes", Arcey, put another candle on yer birthday cake, and go get the fire extinguisher before you light that thing.

Sorry to hear of your "Girl's" friend, Buck; that's rough.  My Condolences.

Russ T, it is good to see you joining in here more often.  Glad you seem to be enjoying being re-tired (I hope that's it), and seem to be in good shape.  You still in on the RCCSA, or has it gone by the wayside or merged with the Fernley club? Me, I have retired from CAS completely - can't walk a straight line, with or without my stick, and running or even hustling or uneven ground  is out of the question.

Just for the heads up, you all keep an eye on the classifieds; I am inventorying all of my guns and gear right now, and will be putting it up here and on the SASS Wire Classifieds sometime in the near future.  If you know anyone looking for something, I may have it; I have fifteen years of CAS collecting to get shut of.

Looks like some of you are catching some weather that whomped us here in the Desert Southwest a few days ago.  It only dumped a few inches, but the way it did it, it caused all sort of hate and discontent; washed out large parts of I-15 northeast of Las Vegas twice, a week apart, and almost completely destroyed parts of the town of Moapa.  Then, on Sunday, a bit of wet trundled through, and when the sun came up on Monday, there was snow on the Spring Mountains and Mount Charleston, and the Sheep Range north of the Valley.  Today, it is one of those days we don't like to talk about because folks will think we're crowing.

That's our status, in a nutshell; still kickin' and trying to take names.  Gonna go see if I can get into some kind of trouble.

Later.
