Charcoal or standard?

Hi, pards. Can anyone tell me what the authentic finish for a U.S. Cavalry SAA should be? Charcoal or standard? In fact, did Colt always use charcoal blue way back, and, if so, when did they stop? I'd be grateful for info. Skeet.
