Well .... Ummm .....Ah ..... I don't.  Never even thought of it.  I do use it as one of the three ingredients for PAM though.

Hey Mr. Coffin ,, i'v been using Murphy's for 3-4 years and just thought others knew about it . I have better luck w/ Murphy's than the LEE white stuff that came w/ my LEE Hand loader kit. Once rds. are loaded I just wipe w/ clean rag ( just a habit ) ,, it's really a great conditioner for dried leather like,, saddles ,,boots ,,gun rigs . Did a couple hundred 38's spl. last night ( between 12 & 2:00 AM )

Never tried it to size....

I first use in muzzle loading as patch grease.... In lieu of Boar Butter, Spit lube or Crisco grease etc.

fellow I knew mixed Murphy's Oil Soap , Glycerine ( thickener) , and green food dye , his product was called Gator Grease .
Had the consistency of Vaseline.

He also omitted the Glycerine and just offered the green dyed MOS ..and a BP solvent/cleaner .

I made my own for muzzle loading

Do you wipe it on with your fingers or spray it?

I buy it in the big plastic bottles ,, i'v used it on saddles that needed cleaning and most all leathers in my shop ,, but to answer your Question " just tip the bottle sideways , get Murf. on finger a little goes a long way ,, "YES " you can get to much on bottle neck cases and cause dent's . I really like to use it when sizing 45/70's down to 40/60's or down to 40 / 65's ,, all my dies are cheap LEE's ,, .

I use Murphy's Oil for a lot of things on and around guns. But never as a case lube.  I clean up a lot of old guns and I use Murphy's Oil and burlap to strip off the built up grime. I did some experiments with over ball lube in cap and ball revolvers. One thing I tried was a drop of Murphy's Oil over each ball.  Worked as well as anything else. Peanut butter also works. I made my own from unsalted roasted peanuts.

Peanut butter over each ball!!! I love it. Must smell great after a few cylinders full. Trouble is, I'd prob'ly lick my fingers.

I've used MOS as part  of my BP gun cleaning solution along with winter grade windshield fluid and some vinegar. Eats crud like mad.

Does the MOS cause your dies to rust?  I know from experience that the LEE brand sizing lube will cause your dies to rust .  Thet LEE lube is water based.  Leave the Lee Lube in a sizing die for a week then wipe it out.  The Q-Tip will come out orange coloured not white.

My choice for case lube is Imperial sizing Wax.

Have never tried it for sizing cases , don't laugh I use toilet ring wax very light for sizing , works great . The Murphys  I love it use it to clean and protect wood from gunstocks to the wood wall panels  smells great . A few yrs. ago started using it for patch lube in my muzzleloaders , works great .  Good stuff Amigo .,,,,DT

I have not tried it in case sizing either. I use either Tree Wax or Minwax finishing past wax for sizing. I also use these paste waxes for a releasing agent when doing any epoxying or barrel bedding. (be careful about which Minwax paste wax you buy, some has abrasives in it for polishing wooden floors!)
MOS is a good product for use on all naturel materials like wood and leather and as a cleaner for BP firearms.
I would recommend staying away from solvents that contain things like peroxide, ammonia, vinegar and\or bleach. These do help clean BP but they all cause oxidation on metals.
I hope this info helps.

Just to make it clear to a slower member here, you guys are talking about both the liquid and gel type MOS, right? Used in 2 types of applications?

I am not really interested in my guns smelling like a clean floor.
Since I use Ballistol / Moose Milk, my guns to smell like something indescribable. And it is my understanding the makers of Ballistol actually put in a fragrance to make it smell like that.

Equal parts Murphy's Oil Soap, Alcohol and Peroxide makes a passable patch lube, bore cleaner for black powder. Another version of moosemilk. I like the food dye idea, sure be a conversation starter, lol.

Been using MOS for years, it is really not anything special. In WW2 soap was made from lye and used motor oil they just didn't call it "oil" soap. I'm not saying it doesn't work but there are a lot of other things that also work.

That P.A.M. mix works well.  If you have any small cuts on your hands you will know it immediately!
