A Shooting Buddy
« on: June 16, 2022, 10:06:29 AM »
Been struggling about where to post this but since I'm interested in black powder cartridge shooting this seemed the best place. Those in charge feel free to move it if I screwed up and posted in the wrong place.

I live in Phoenix's East Valley (Mesa) and I'm looking for a shooting buddy, probably who's retired like me so we can get together and shoot on weekdays. I'm getting a little old (73) and have some disabilities so CAS is out and even black powder cartridge silhouette is beyond me. If I got down into prone or even setting for the longer distances I'd need several guys to get me back up (LOL).

I shoot single shot and lever action rifles, all with black powder. Long time 45 Colt black powder shooter and recently got back to playing with black powder in a 12ga double hammer shotgun.

Anyone on this board from this area, who would like to get together and plan some cartridge charcoal burning, either at Rio Salado or out in the desert once the fire restrictions are lifted, send me a PM and we can trade e-mails or phone numbers.

I would go here:  https://shilohrifle.com/forums/     and query as well.  There seems quite an active BPCR community in the southwest.

Unfortunately, I too live back east now, but when I lived in Tucson, Dave T. couldn't have been a better shooting buddy, or story telling buddy. He even helped me get started writing about old guns.

Shooting is more fun when you can share experiences with someone. That's why I'm still involved in SASS. However, every time I go to the range with a friend we end up doing more talking than shooting!

I agree. The camaraderie is ALMOST as much fun as the shooting.

I agree, that is why I try to never miss the NCOWS Nationals.  Visiting with old friends is the best part.

The camaraderie is what I'm looking for. I've been going out and shooting black powder cartridge by myself for several years now. Talking about the "gun stuff" is a big part of the enjoyment shooting BPC.

Exactly. If all I wanted to do is throw some lead at steel targets, I can do that right in my backyard, but that gets to be a bit boring pretty quickly.

Same here and yeah, it does....
Plenty of SASS about, but that hasn't appealed to me for a very long time  :-X
