Shotguns / Anyone have any problems with Brass shells in 87 ?
« Last post by Macon Due on Yesterday at 08:21:15 PM »
Howdy Gents
Today I got to make a very short test with my new Cimarron 1887 Lever gun. I tried roll crimped paper shells first. I had 2 or 3 that I had 'jiggle' the lever a bit to make em chamber. I think I need just a tiny bit more taper/roll crimp on them. Otherwise it was slick and fun. Then I tried the 12ga. brass shells and it would not feed at all. They were too long. They are longer by quite a bit over the roll crimped paper shells. So I guess I will shorten 10 of them [ to start] to the same length as the paper shells are loaded and roll crimped and see if that solves the problem. Have any of you had this problem with the brass 12 ga. shells in the 87's?
Thanks.......Macon

Upcoming Musters / Re: Dept. of the Missouri Muster

Scotty, I'm going to claim a half victory. My estimates on temp. are pretty close. On rain not so much. The forecast as of 17:50 today is- rain all day on Fri. clearing about 7 or 8 on Sat. morning and rain Sat. evening and all day Sun. With that forecast in mind, Sunday Funday will be happy fire, no organized match. We have made plans to accommodate the weather for meals. Ken and I will still be at the range Fri. afternoon, we'll make plans when everyone is there. Conditions might not be the best, but the camraderie will be ;D

Al, I like your weather forecast better than the professional's, I sure hope they're wrong!

Spencer Shooting Society / Re: Chiappa Spencer quality control

Three months ago I was in a large local gun shop. I asked if they had a Chiappa spencer. He pointed to one hanging on the wall behind the counter. I’d missed it. He said it was new but had been hanging there for like 6 years. He said they’d sold a few and had them come back for repairs so they’d not put this one out to sell. It had been relegated to a wall hanging decoration. It still had the 2018 price of $1800. I told him to give me a deal and I’d buy it and never bring it back for repairs if there were issues. He gave me a handful of snap caps to try there in the store. They would not recycle reliably. That was good for me because he sold me the rifle for $1200 or so. I brought it home, read a lot here and loaded up a bunch of ammo. I used 255 grain hard cast Keith bullets from Missouri bullet co in my loads. Got them loaded at exactly 1.6 inches and started shooting. Trigger measured at 6lbs right out of the box. The first 100 rounds I had quite a few feed issues. I just kept shooting and learning how to manhandle the lever. Now that I have about 500 rounds through it it’s as smooth as glass. Took at least 150 rounds to get it to this point. The only issue I had was feeding the very last round from the magazine. I clipped a couple rings off the spring and that cured that issue.

More sore this morning, the locals that are long lasting they did at the sites has worn off.  Rita still has a fever and will stay another night.  I have to run her teeth and charging cords out because she didn't take them.

"I didn't think they was going to keep me."

Dear always think they might and take stuff in case they do. ::)
