Uberti retractable firing pin
« on: June 08, 2020, 10:42:30 PM »
I have a Uberti SAA that fell in my lap for $200 from a neighbor selling off. (I honestly told him the value, he just wanted quick sale) And it is the newer retracting firing pin.

What parts do I need to replace to make it a normal fixed firing pin gun?

You just replace the actuator spring and plunger with a fixed pin.
The firing pin stays in the extended position but you still have 3 clicks. Its a "user install", i can send you one but i need an address (pm me). If you ever sell it, you can reinstall the safety. If 4 clicks are a must, you'll need a hammer and a trigger (Cattleman).

Thanks sir! I do prefer 4 clicks. It's just the trigger and hammer replacement?

The biggest problem you will encounter, is finding the previous iteration of Uberti Hammer and Trigger.  Uberti has a nasty habit of not supporting previous iterations of parts, once they have "Enhanced" something, that's it.  No more of the old parts.  Once the usual suspects (EMF, Dixie, Taylors and Cimarron have run out of the old pattern parts, Es tut Mir Leid.

Although I haven't tried it in a Lustrum or so, you may be able to substitute Pietta hammer and Trigger.  Don't quote me on that.

Safety Nazis (corporate lawyers) win, we the consumer loose. Seems the way of things these days.

I posted this info in another section here, Gun Reviews.

In March I ordered a "four click" hammer and trigger from Taylor's F.A. Co for a Cattleman II.  The  trigger came right away but the hammer was sold out so I placed a Back Order.

The new hammer just arrived about a week ago and I have installed it and fitted the trigger , which I think curiously had absolutely no stoning on the hammer notch contact surface.  It was rounded there.

Hammer required only removal of a serious burr at the outer edge of the "hook" or full cock shelf.  I also relieved some metal from the safety and half-cock notch to eliminate catching the trigger "nose" and wedging that into the notch.  Neither hand nor bolt/cylinder stop required any adjustment.

This version of "no safety" hammer is apparently still available or at least it is still being shipped by Uberti in Italy.

I just put a old style non safety 4 click in my Taylor cattleman 44 special. Its  Cimarron Thunderstorm low/wde hammer non-safety

Yeah, I had to fit and stone things

Taylor only has their low wide hammer (runnin iron) with the stupid retractable firing pin acording to Ryan at Taylors parts

The other 4 click hammer in the picture is a standard spur Hammer got from Taylors (spare since I found the Thunderstorm hammer) , and the hammer I took out with the retract-o pin
