Hi
I purchased one of WPG's 1892 Undress tunics on Ebay. It fits ok, and looks a little bit band uniform because of all the ropes on it. It will be fine for the yearly dinner and was less than $250.00. I'm tall with a long torso, and I think it's supposed to be sport coat short.
I do have a question, is the shirt you wear under it supposed to show? I put on a banded shirt from the 1860's era and it doesn't look that bad, but is it authentic?

If you look at William Browns book on men's shirts. It appears versions of the banded collar shirt were around for a long time. Add a detachable collar and a cravat or tie to fancy it up a bit. Go out and socialize.

These illustrations show a good 1/2 inch+ of white collar above the band of the tunic.

Yes, there was even an issued button on linen standing collar. Remind me at the muster and I'll show the reprint of regs with a line drawing

Our dress blues had a button in white standing collar. It makes sense, as you can change it out when it gets soiled.

Considered as officers' "walking out" uniform, also on campaign. Worn in similar situations as the "Service" uniform is today.
Brits referred to them as "patrol jackets".

Next question, I ordered a set of Staff Officer Lieutenant Colonel boards for the above uniform, since I was ordering a few other items. I have the 1899 WPG uniform with Artillery, Cavalry, and Infantry epaulets to clip on. The clips seems to be in different places so I'm not sure the white ones will fit. Does anyone in this august group use clips on their shoulder boards? I'm considering getting the clips and the shoulder board put on at a tailor close to Tinker AFB.

Apparently, the shoulder boards are too thick for the sewing mahine so I may hand sew them. I'm not sure what I'll do at this point.

Does it hurt the shoulder boards to dry clean them or did you sew clips to the uniform and the boards?
I got my boards from C&C Sutlery in Idaho and the backing is really thick, but I have a leather punch to put holes in them with. I don't want to blow a lot of time and $ in a jacket I'll wear for 3 hours once a year.

I wash the only blouse I have that has shoulder boards and I can't see where I've hurt them.

......if you don't get your wool clothing that filthy. My wife bought one of those home dry cleaning kits. You put the clothing in a bag and tumble them in the dryer on recommended settings. I do this and it rids them of the sweat and smells.
