Request for relief and retirement

Sir:
Due to the fact that for a number of reasons, including advancing age and some limitations in ability to participate in Cowboy Action Shooting and activities of the Grand Army of the Frontier, I hereby request to  be relieved at (Bvt) Lt. Col., Commanding the Southern District of the Dept. of the Platte, and placed on the retire list. While I continue to be interested in both, at age 83 and with some arthritis in my right (shooting) shoulder, I am no longer shooting, and my travels are also somewhat limited, due to family responsibilities. So, I think it only fair to allow someone else to take over my GAF duties.

I continue to be interested in military history, especially regarding arms and accoutrements of the CW and Indian Wars periods, and can still do some custom leatherwork.

It has been a pleasure working and associating with you and the members of the GAF.

At this time there is no viable replacement that I know of.  Given the current level of activity in the Department there is no reason why you can (and should) not continue in the position.  I personally appreciate your service and hope you can and will continue.
