Morning all.

Dates for the Mrs interview are set at Nov 7-11. So we’ll both fly out, since I guess my presence was requested by the owner. Makes me feel special. ::)

I managed to hurt my back a bit yesterday at work. I think it’s just a pulled muscle, but it’s quite unpleasant. Especially when trying to do anything that involves back muscles. Ibuprofen hopefully knocks the edge off.

Good morning all, TK best wishes and take care of that back. Gonna be real pretty here this week. Goal for the day, finish the coffee. And probably gonna have to buy a new Keurig coffee machine. Got a fancy one, does both the pods and regular pots, but looks like the pod part has crapped out. Since the Missus and g'niece both like the pod cappuccinos, we will need a new one.

I had a front row seat though distant of the Dragon Heavy Lift Rocket launch and return yesterday.
I was driving on the Turnpike, and out my windshield I watched the contrail head up and then as it descended.
I've seen many liftoffs; I saw Apollo Moon landing missions and several Shuttles.
Night launches are rare, but they are amazing as they first light up the sky like dawn for a few seconds.
Then following the flame of the night launch till it becomes a tiny point of light hundreds of miles down range.  I can even hear the muffled roar 65 miles away from my back pasture if the wind is still.
Yesterday's Dragon Heavy Lift Rocket was a WOW "there it is" moment. The bonus is seeing it return.
I still am amazed and fascinated.

Good morning all, 62 here right now, supposed to hit 80 today. It's sunny and pretty right now, but the forecast is for severe thunderstorms with possibility of tornadoes. Anyway, starting a new part-time job today at a local gun store. Just going in 2-3 days a week to cover lunches. Make a few bucks for the hobby fund. Will probably take the Missus out to dinner tonight, or if the weather is bad, do it tomorrow. Y'all have a good one.

Well-traveled boat!

Evening all.

Blustery day in Montana. Temps in the mid 30s, but wind chill into the low teens.

I spent the morning picking up portapoopers from the university after the UM-Cal Poly game last night. Then the afternoon was spent changing the brakes on my Ford truck. It would have been a 20 minute job, except I had to search the entire 30x75’ shop for every tool. First wheel took 2.5 hours, the second only 25 minutes. I also took advantage of having the tires off to polish the chrome wheels and get some wax on them before salt season.

On the menu tonight is Teriyaki chicken with rice and steamed Broccoli. Grab a plate and help yer’self.

Was naughty again.  Seems people who keep telling everyone they are living off the grid don't like being asked how they are posting on the net?  I thought the net and cell phone towers ran off electricity obtained from the power grid.  Takes more than some solar panels to be off the grid.  At least Homeland Security isn't after me like Friday. ::) ;D  He was a nice guy and understood my trespassing on Federal property clearly marked all trespassers will be prosecuted was not my fault and was Rita's but only a little bit. ;)  The traffic cop directing traffic was already doing a cluster mess when he sent us there. :o  I think he got yelled at after MR Homeland found out what was going on, he was on his cell phone.

Thanks for the coffee, enjoying some hazelnut Dunkin Donut home brewed.

Today is the calm before the coming storm, I expect the weather will start downhill later this afternoon.
Latest advisory states:  Sustained winds remain at 45 mph and strengthening is likely throughout the day Tuesday.
According to the guessers, Subtropical Storm Nicole will become a Cat. 1 hurricane, 74 MPH sustained
before it makes landfall somewhere north of Ft. Pierce, we are under a watch now.
I'm some 45 miles inland but the track puts the path through here  ::)
I expect the rain will be on us for 3 solid days.

Looks to be pretty for a few more days here, in the 70s with a few clouds, but the temps are supposed to drop this weekend into the 40s. Figures, since we shoot Saturday, but it is supposed to be dry. Boy howdy, I work with a good bunch of folks, real nice bunch at the gun store. Hope you all have a good day, and if you haven't voted already, get going!

Morning all.

After cancelled flights, delayed connections, an unexpected trip through Newark, NJ, and rental car companies that have the competency of a billy goat,  we made it.

To expound now that I have a free moment:

Our first flight from Missoula to Denver was delayed for 3 hours for a maintenance issue. This caused us to miss our connection in Denver, but the airline told us that they would reschedule us and not to worry. Well, in Denver they give us our new tickets and what do you know, we landed just after that one took off. Sheer brilliance there.

Got on another flight, this one to Newark, and had a two hour layover there before our last flight into Charleston. And what do you know, that flight out is delayed another half hour. Once in Charleston, we go down to pick up our rental car (at midnight) only to discover that they’re only open from 8am-5pm. Great hours for an airport-based rental company. Had to get a car through a different company, and arrived at our final destination at 3am this morning.

Then when I called the other rental place to cancel the reservation, they say they don’t have any record of it anyway, which I find dubious, considering the $450 charge on my account from them. So now I’m running that little gem through the corporate chain of command. Hopefully we get something done there.

I expect, there will be more delays and cancelations when you head out with TS Nicole in SC, over the weekend.

The Rain started here about 2:30 this afternoon, this storm is over 600 miles wide, major rain event will be here for the next 3 or 4 days.
It's now projected to make landfall near Palm Bay which is a little south & east of my place about 60 miles or so.
Winds are 65 MPH now and expected to Cat. 1 at landfall (74mph).

The thought has entered my mind. The talking heads say it’s not supposed to be enough of a storm to delay air traffic much by Charleston, but we all k ow how accurate they are. ::)

Ok can't sleep so I messed with the tablet mess and got logged in.  Would you believe things bad  started  Monday afternoon, thought a stomach flu had hit me, or something, the big fun D with a capital D.  Stomachnok, could eat.  Got out long enough Tuesday to vote and hit the library for a pickup, slept most the rest of the day and had stomach ache to go with flu, tried some cream of chicken soup that ended in quick disaster. :P By midnight water wouldn't stay down same yesterday when I got up.  Rita ran kid to school and some errands and I called the place we do the IV change and told them I wouldn't be in, called and talked to GPS nurse, she talked to him and decided it would be a waste of both our time to go in so headed to the ER about noon, was busy and had to wait almost 2 hours, never been that long but still ahead of several others, that means pretty sick but no danger of dying, but since gauze finger guys finger was still on hand and gauze wasn't even bloody on outside I got in first.  Anyway was decided I had a blockage, and had to stay but no room so they got a transport ambulance and took me to their other campus.  Stll not sure why but  most likey adhesions again but best to play wait since it is less than 100% and still have some sounds so guts are not dying.  Lucky, the infectious disease Drs have me, no GI Drs in site and it will remain that way I likely will bite the Sobs if they show up.  Leaning towards adhesions again, been 15 years Slim will remember or does because I call him before I fixed it.  Anyway getting good pain meds, have not been hauled away to have unspeakable tests that will show nothing.  We are hoping it will fix itself in a day or so if not the fix isn't real bad, don't have the exact one lined up but have the practice decided and I'll take any of them.   Anyway will check in again.  And they have good ice chips here, rumor is I may get some broth tomorrow if I can get off the anti puke meds that go in IV, got my important meds down and stayed down this evening

Nicole is in SE Georgia now, headed for Atlanta and points north as a soaker.
Today will be cloudy with a high of 84 ° and a 55% chance of precipitation.

Once again, I fared well with no damage, very minor foliage clutter and little or no standing water.
Not so for many on the east coast at landfall and points north.
Several Condos and homes with seawalls, weakened by Ian are rubble or condemned news video shows.
You'll have probably seen it.  :-\

All of the goings on for Veterans Day were canceled ahead of the storm.
But the Museum is open, and we offer free admission, to any Veterans & spouses and of course as always free to active service members all weekend.
I have the comm tomorrow & Sunday.
HAPPY Veterans Day and Bless all that made the ultimate sacrifice.

Our return journey from South Carolina went better than the trip out, as our only delay was 4 minutes in Denver to allow a couple of passengers to get from their previous flight to our flight.

I got home close to 5 yesterday, had errands to run and such, got a flu shot yesterday also, Drs wanted me to before I left, a lot of flu around here, why the hospitals are so full.  Had I not gotten sick it would have been done the day I went in.  As always I don't feel real well but that is a sign the flu would have been worse.  Also there is a new flu shot, that is next, and right close to the 6 month on the 4th Covid and will do that another day, one at a time.  Not convinced everyone needs one but I do think I do.

On the subject of evil white stuff, we’re forecast for sub-zero temps this week. Can’t claim to be terribly excited about that one.

We got a few light flakes, harvest is done and a heavy wet snow would be welcomed by all despite the problems it would cause.  In farming country the S word can help with the D word.   Of course a slow melt soon like is normal here would be more welcome than a wait till spring like you folks get.

A cool front moves in tomorrow; they are posting mid 40's in the AM ...we'll see  :-\
64 for high Friday  ???

I read something the other day about, weather will tough this winter, Florida may even see snow.
That is rare.
I had seen it in 1978, in fact as far south a Palm Beach in very light blowing flakes.  :o
and I recall again in about 2009, just floating flakes here in St Cloud
Temps were in the low 20's that's NIPPY for us!
The lowest temperature ever recorded in Florida is minus 2 degrees Fahrenheit. It was recorded at a Tallahassee station on Feb. 13, 1899. It was the only sub-zero temperature ever recorded in Florida.

That 78 storm from what I understand killed so many orange trees that USDA and Florida orange growers started working on a more cold resistant orange and worked with the Mandarin Orange and came up with a hardy high producing one that at first was expensive but eventually came down in price as more planted it and is the Cutie/Clementine types we see today.

We need the snow, right now we could use a big wet snow then warm up to the upper 30's or 40's and then repeat and rinse through the winter, key is slow, we need water but don't need the Missouri to be 3-6 miles wide like some recent years.  Our best recharge comes in winter.

We can't afford them up here yet, kinda like the others at first.  We get the Cara Cara affordable and like them and I like blood oranges.

Home yes, better yes, mending, not so sure, may have been a mistake to have not stayed a couple days and had things really fixed.  Going to talk to GP about things Monday. The fix is not a big deal just a simple scope, , likely simpler than 15 years ago.  Dr decided that despite being off pain meds when I left a Rx of 10 of the good ones was reasonable, still in the stapled sack, might make the difference between going to the ER on the weekend or getting to the GP on Monday, makes things simpler, as long as I can hold liquid down I'm OK.

Oh, didn't ever study but got an A on my urine test the other day.  In honor of all those jokes about studying for one.   ;D  Plus all the time at events Esp the muster I try to keep others from it. ::)

In August we had 12 inductees.

Spent 5 hours in the ER yesterday, couldn't hold fluid down again, got me pain meds and anti nausea, plus a bag of saline.  Could eat when I got home, got appointment with GP tomorrow and will get a surgeon arranged ASP as far as I am concerned.

A lot of progress in the last 15 years, have not dealt with one Dr that pretends like adhesions don't exist, they admit most the old SOBs have retired and the new ones being human is part of the teaching.

Also anti nausea med has improved, see in severe cases what do you do if nothing will stay down, medicine comes up before it works.  new ones are tiny and dissolve in the mouth like a Nitro tablet.   Bad thing, no more "I might as well stick them up my butt for all the good they do" jokes.  ;D  Have caught 2 pharma folks that way, hilarious when they realize you are kidding.

Oh and just so everyone knows although this is a bother, it is not dangerous thanks to modern medicine.

Saw a lot of does in the commute to/from the hunting grounds. Once there, we saw three does. Another day of tag soup for me ::)

Del, when I was frequenting the medical helicopter world, we had nausea medications that were both inhaled and injected, plus some pill types. I don’t think they use the first two in hospital settings for whatever reason.

10:15 am appointment on Monday with the surgeon if the anti-nausea meds and the pain meds last/work till then.  Going to be close on the pain meds.  The Feds decided that they need to ease up on restrictions on pain meds because they are driving the cornicly ill people to the street and less safe alternatives.  Did this about 3 weeks ago, was in the news but we are still using the old guidelines because they ain't sent them to Drs and Pharmacists and because I got a refill Monday and Drs office is closed till Monday and today was too soon if I run out I have no choice but go to the ER.  Did the same shit in 2005 over the long Christmas weekend.   As is most the weekend will be spent with my legs on pillows laying down reading.   Just us two tomorrow, going to do stuffed mushrooms and graze, Sat is the nieces and want to make that one, missed the last two family get togethers.  Should actually be real good again after this, get rid of the anti-biotic pump next week.

Like you, I had done some work on an old Shotgun for a friend.
I my case a Stevens Model 59A Bolt Action Shotgun.

The Stock was cracked and had been repaired by a BUBBA , there was fitment issues.
The action was moving back under recoil and would jam the bolt when you tried to re-cock to feed for the next round.
Somewhere, the fellow acquired a replacement stock, that I fitted & finished for him...
Repaired the Safety slide spring and fixed the trigger pivot pin....
Stevens Model 59A's were inexpensive back in the day and aren't valuable or collectable today.
He had taken it to a Gunsmith and was told it was not worth fixing...calling it junk!
BUT to the guy it had a sentimental value, and for him something he wanted to shoot...
it wasn't junk to him....
So, I agreed to look at it, and I was able to repair it.... being retired I had the time and enjoyed the project.
He wanted to pay me; I said naught!... but he insisted and stuck $60 in my shirt pocket.

Two more doses if antibiotic, one at noon, one at midnight and tomorrow pump and picc line go away, just short of 4 months, we expect culture test to come up clear again.

We are doing a wait on doing surgery, ben 10 days since a flare, surgeon knows what is going on and since I'm not really in any immediate danger they'll just call him if flairs.

After 16 weeks the picc line and antibiotic pump are gone.  White count has been normal for a month, infected arthritis pockets were negative after back surgery, looks like this mess that started the day before Mothers Day is over.  4 ER visits, two ambulance rides and 49 days in patient total.   If Medicare is broke when you younger folks retire it's likely my fault. ::)
