Title: Accurate Mold for 45/75
Post by: King Medallion on May 29, 2022, 11:01:14 AM
Browsing the Accurate catalog for molds for the 45/75, 45/70, 45/60, I see a few that seems the right one for what we need. I prefer having a crimp groove, just my level of comfort in reloading, as I don't have much experience in BP loading. These are what I see. Thoughts?

The last one has 3 grooves for lube, but look to be shallow. maybe with 3 grooves thats enough.

I use the 46-345LC, and it works very well for smokeless powder, but I haven't used it with black powder yet. I have no reason to think that it wouldn't work for that application, though.

Dont like the 3 groove one (46-350D) - lube grooves too shallow for blackpowder mold
just an opinion based on eyeball, measurement of the pictures

Looks like all three would work . Using Bp. under the bullet you can get by without a crimp groove . Using Smokeless probably need one . Will be following .,,,,DT

I used the 46-342W, since it is a copy of the original Winchester bullet.  However, my Uberti rifle had a 28" barrel and I didn't get lube all the way to the end, so I had Tom make the same mold with deeper grease grooves for a little more capacity.  I haven't had a chance to try it yet.  It turned out that accuracy sucked on the POS Uberti '76 because the chamber was nothing more than a "wide spot in the pipe", and didn't properly support the cartridge.  I'm waiting on it's return from Lee Shaver after having the barrel relined and properly chambered.  I expect it to shoot quite well once I get a chance to work with it's new incarnation.

King, please let us know how the 46-350DL works for you.
The 46-345M looks like another useful design.
I have been looking at Tom's 46-305C and 46-325C for the .45-60, leaning toward the latter for a little more oomph in a hunting bullet. Both have crimp grooves in useful places and lube grooves that might be deep enough for both black and smokeless powder lubes. Does anyone here shoot either of these designs?
BP Burn, hope Lee Shaver can work his magic for you. He is a good guy.
